I'll write with all details, so it does will be long.
    I and my husband (we 30 and over) took this cruise based on itinerary. It’s our fifth cruise so we knew what to expect, we knew how it should be.
    We booked cruise shuttle from airport to the ship (only one thing which we booked through the cruise, because everything overprice). People in airport was slow and confused, did not know what to do with extra luggage event it was not full bus, but we got to the ship fine, embarkation was very quick and we were in a ship in10 min. We got there maybe 12:30, waited for room maybe 20 min.
    Room was nice (a little old fashion, but its older ship so we expected that),enough space for luggage, nice size balcony. Then looked around, ship was clean, small compare to previous cruise ships, atrium tiny. A lot of hand sanitizers all over the ship, we liked that, because we have been on the ship with norvovirus (no fun), but sad is that not a lot of people using them. Luggage...

The Oosterdam is a nice ship but service was definitely not 5 stars. First day 90% of the passengers were sick. Captain Van Der Lou was trucking it in the pacific the boat was at full speed and we did not take the inside passage to Alaska water was very ruff but captain liked to leave at least 30 min early from the scheduled port of call time....

This was my husband and my first cruise. I had wanted to go on a cruise for the last 10 years, but circumstances and the resistance from my husband prevented it. But for our 35th anniversary we decided to go to Alaska. On day 2 he said we have to do this again. It was fabulous. We have traveled many places, including Hawaii twice, and many states and resorts in the USA, but we would love to go back to Alaska. There is so much to see and we just scratched the surface. The crew of The Oosterdam was superb, and I highly recommend the Holland America cruise line. We would go again in a minute....

This was a Saturday-Saturday, January 19, 2008 cruise out of San Diego to the Mexican Riveria. We flew out of St Louis the day before in case of bad January weather. Flights on SWA thru Phoenix were fully booked-missing a leg might have left us with no seats open on later full flights.

Tip: We stayed at the inexpensive Holiday Inn-Bayside on North Harbor Drive-West of the SAN airport (not the more expensive Holiday Inn (not rated well) across N Harbor Drive from the cruise terminal.) They provided free shuttle to the ship if you signed up for a slot. They also picked you up at the airport if you didn't want to pay $8.00 for a taxi. They gave a free drink coupon for the bar for each, free Mexican food during happy hour starting at 5pm, too. You could easily make dinner out of it. The restaurant on site was quite good.

We took the 10:00am shuttle to the cruise ship. MS Zaandam was also docked and sailing for Hawaii. Check in was quick. Through metal detectors and x-ray...

The Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise offers two cruises a year, one of out Fort Laurderdale in January, and the Meixan Riviera out of San Diego in the fall.

We have been on three of these full ship charter cruises, all on Holland America ships. They have all been fantastic!

Instead of having the Phillipine houseboys put on a "show" for the entertainment, the Blues Cruise office books twenty plus blues, rhythm & blues and zydeco bands, and there are 10-15 music shows a day, using all the ship's venues. The problem is not boredom, it is getting to see everyone-an almost impossible task!

Dress is casual throughout, so you can enjoy Holland America fine dining without having to put a tux on during your vacation. Ports of call often feature land shows-in Cabo musicians from the boat took over Cabo Wabo, thrilling both cruisers and locals.

There are also very few small children on board. The adult environment is refreshing.

The Oosterdam is a beautiful ship. Holland America does an excellent job of providing the perfect cruise experience. Sometimes it is the little touches like providing heated blankets and hot soup when you are on deck watching the glacier that add extra special memories to an already magnificent moment. The food is top-notch. The service is flawless. I've been on many cruises, and this one ranks among the top. Alaska is beautiful, a cruise is the only way to see the glaciers up close, and going on a cruise with excellent service and food makes it a perfect vacation.

This cruise line is much more attentive to service then Royal Carribean (which is all I have to compare it too). I would not reccommend this line to family travelers. The median age of passengers is over 55 yrs old. If your under that age it is an excellent line to sail without small children. The entire ship was very quiet at any given time of the day!...
