My husband has been on medicare for at least four years after threeyears of being on Medicaid. He was severely injured at age 56 and continues to be disabled. During the change to medicare(primary)/medicaid we had no difficulties in having any of his medications paid for and I interviewed several different medicare providers before choosing one that would cover the majority of his medication costs with medicaid covering the rest. Each year when you are able to change medicare providors I would check with his medicare providor to ensure all his medications are still covered. I was assured they all were, so I continued with the same provider. After three months I was refilling his vytorin perscription when the pharmacy informed me that his medicare provider no longer covered vytorin and that medicaid would not cover it since his medicare should pay for it. My husband has very high chloresterol which diet and exercise do not affect. He has tried all the chloresterol medications...
...

KraftyLynda says "CareMore just cares more for those on Medicare." about Health Care Medicare

My husband just joined the CareMore Medical program two months ago. He belonged to AARP Secure Horizons the year before. Caremore has done more for him in the last two months than Secure Horizons did for him in the last year. We are really happy with the complete program. They really seem to care more than the other Medicare programs that are out there. Our representative followed through on requests immediately. My husband was sent for a medical evaluation within a month of joining. Before he went to the first appointmnet, they called on the telephone to see if thee was anything that he needed. His Primary Care Doctor is very close to where we live. He is allowed $25.00 of free vitamins each month. They give an allowance for batteries for those who have hearning aids. They also have many programs that we haven't had time to look into yet, such as dietician services, diabetic center, physical therapy and gym services. All of this for no co-pays at all, with the only exception,......

critterlover says "how incorrect medical records can damage your life" about Health Care Medicare

You don't very often get to see your medical records. We trust that what our doctor's tell us during our visits will become part of the package. And then we forget about it. But I can tell you from personal experience, this may well not be the case. And it can come back to hurt you. My first experience with this was when my husband applied for life insurance. He was rejected based on a statement his doctor put in his file, a statement that the underwriter acknowledged made no sense based on all the other information but we would have to get the doctor to "correct his error". We had to go see him in person and while he admitted he could have made a mistake, he wouldn't correct it. His response to the life insurance company was "at patients request, I withdraw this statement". Based on that, my husband could not obtain life insurance much less reasonably prices term life insurance. And this problem continues to haunt us even though he now has life insurance through his work...but what if......

McArt says "Medicare is good, but it should be better." about Health Care Medicare

I have been paying for Social Security and Medicare for a long time. I looked forward to the time I could get off my high-cost private insurance and onto Social Security and Medicare.

Medicare coverage offers a bit less than that of the private insurance, but the private insurance was cost-prohibitive. Mostly I used the insurance and now Medicare for medication purchases through drug plans.

Now, here is the first problem with Medicare--the drug plans and health plans (plural) from which you have to make your selection. Congress set this up in such a way that too many insurance companies are competing for the business. Across the country there are many, many insurance companies, each with their plan for providing medications and insurance coverage to "the elderly".

If there is any one group that needs more consideration, help, care, attention, clearer information, it is "the elderly". These drug plans and health plans are not clear; indeed, they are very confusing. What else...
...
