I remember, as a kid, having family game night. A lot of my family members would get together at my aunt's house and play board games. My favorite was always Scrabble. This game will never get old with me. Anyone can play it.

Anywhere from 2 - 4 people can play Scrabble and it's recommended they are at least 8 years old. It comes with a game board, 4 wooden tile trays, 100 wood tiles, and a tile bag. The object of the game is to score as many points as possible.

First you select seven letters. From those seven letters you form crosswords, you build words with letters already placed on the board. Depending on the letter and how many letters you used is how you score. There are also spaces on the board for bonuses, like Triple Word Score, Double Letter Score, etc. Placing a letter on one of those can boost your score! And if you have nothing to play, you can pass or exchange your tiles.There are variations to the rules and points but those are just the basics.

I always enjoyed Scrabble when I was a kid. I was a wordsmith back then as I am today. Give me some letters, I make words. Little words. Big words. Common words. Random words. Obscure words.

When we went on vacation this summer, we had everyone along from my Mom to the boys' Dad to my teens. There were board games at the rental cabin, so we relaxed in the evenings with some games. Scrabble was, by far, the most popular game.

For anyone - gasp - not familiar with Scrabble, it's kind of a crossword puzzle game. You get tile letters and then make words. The next player makes a word that crosses with your word kind of like domino tiles. Various letters and game board squares have point values.

My Mom, in her 60s, likes Scrabble. She grew up playing Scrabble. She's great with words. She liked Scrabble much better than Pictionary which rather befuddled her. She actually draws well but just didn't much like the rushed art.

My oldest son is academic while still being "cool." Playing with words is...

Scrabble Rehab? No Way!
I've been addicted to Scrabble my entire adult life. Yes, I was a spelling bee competitor, and I'm now a professional writer, but I've met plenty of players who were neither, and who find this game as fun and compelling as I do. I can't get E-N-O-U-G-H.

Xu, Qat, Jo, Bo, Adz, Oe, Ai........and on a perfect day: ELIXIRS.
You can play Scrabble with the words you know now, which is fun and relaxing, or you can go a step or two further, and memorize the offical two- and three-letter Scrabble words. You can learn all the crazy words with Q in them. You can study the masters, and learn to recognize the importance of drawing I-N-G or R-E. It's up to you. But either way, you'll soon be hooked on...
