The HP Pavilion 8100 series is a fantastic buy. It is very fast and very powerful and can handle multiple programs all at once. It also has a very spacious 500gb hard drive which is great for recording my favorite shows with the built-in tuner and dvr! I also love the 3g of ram which means this pc never freezes up. All in all, after lots of research and comparison shopping, I am very pleased with this desktop computer....

broker says "powerful media center but does it go into sleep" about HP Media Center 8100 series

I have HP 8100M replacing an old desktop at home. The fact that I had a 19 inch LCD monitor laying around made me think about buying this media tower since it does not come with a monitor. I should say that I am impressed by the hardware. It comes with all the RAM, processor and 500 GB hard drive; an ok video graphics card, tv and radio tuner, media center remote and vista home premium. Regardless though I cannot put the machine into sleep and that drives me crazy. Finally I formatted it and reinstalled all the programs and I can put it into sleep right now but now it wakes up basically whenever it wants to. Having this computer in my bed room it causes problems. Another thing is you cannot just shut down the computer it is not recommended. Even if you do it is difficult to turn it on. Sometimes I have to plug it off then plug it back on. I am not sure whether my computer is faulty but I realized that these problems are reported by other people on internet and it seems like a software problem......

This is a great computer for those who are into entertainment. We were able to hook up our camcoder to it and transfer our movies, we are able to hook up the cable and record movies (which we have not done yet) It has 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB, 1394, s-video all on the front, as well as a place or a removable hard drive. It took us awhile to find this computer as I was specifically looking for this one. All our stores were sold out, until a new staples opened up in our town and they had one. I paid aproximatly $1100 for the computer and a 17" flat panel monitor. This one had 3 G RAM, 2.66 quad processor, and 500G HD. There are smaller ones in the same series for cheaper prices. But this was the one I wanted.
...
