Three cups of tea was the most boring book i ever read! it took me over a month to read it. usually i'm a wuick reader. i just couldn't get interested in a story about a man who builds school for poor children in iraq, iran, and pakistan. i'm glad that i got the book for free off of zoompanel.com (a survey site) instead of wasting almost 15 dollars on buying it from the store. the book is about greg mortenson who used to be a mountain climber. his sister died and he wanted to place a remembrance of her (a necklace) at the top of the mountain. he never accomplshed that. instead greg decided to build schools for poverty sticten childre, it was hard for him to raise money for the cause but through miracles somehow he managed. the citizens of the towns where he built the schools were willing to help build them so that they would know the children could get an education and have better futures than their elders. whild greg was building schools wars were going on and he was in a lot of danger....

I can't even begin to share how impaortant I feel this story is. While this country is spending billions on what we like to call the fight on terror, Greg Mortenson manages to go into Pakistan and Afghanistan and build schools. He learns the languages and the customs. He acts respectful and takes advice. He keeps his promises. He lives on almost nothing so that every penny can go to the children who need his help. I'm overwelmed that all these things seem so novel. Mr. Mortenson didn't start out to change the world. He just wanted to build a school in a village which had nursed him back to health, then he kept doing the next right thing. If more of us did even a tiny fraction of what he does, I'm pretty sure that Americans wouldn't have such a bad reputation around the world. He's got it right.

Three Cups of Tea

co written by Greg Mortenson and David Relin is a thought provoking story of a part of the world that most Americans only hear about on the nightly news. Mortenson started as a mountain climber and ended up as a builder of schools in a harsh and inhospitable land in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In the course of little over a decade he was able to build 10 schools for both boys and girls in a land that didn't believe in schools for females. I would recommend this book to individuals and book clubs.

Greg Mortenson was building schools in Pakistan before the rise of the Taliban. Schools allowed people a way to a better life through education. Greg reminds us that all people have the same basic needs. When those needs aren't met, we look for ways to meet them. That can make people vulnerable to "opportunities" offered by regimes like the Taliban. The best way to fight terrorism is to fight poverty. Three Cups of Tea is also Greg's personal and unlikely story of how he began doing what he does. He got lost on the way down from an unsuccessful attempt at K2 and stumbled into the village that would change the course of his life. The people there didn't have much, but they willingly shared everything with him. When he realized the children studied outdoors and didn't even have a teacher every day, he vowed to build a school. And that's what he's been doing ever since....

This is such a great depiction of a culture so many people misrepresent. And it'll remind you how we should all focus on peace a little more. Well written and different than anything else out there. fantastic great read. It's really interesting how many people have misunderstand this man. True story.

What a great book! In short, it is a true story of one American man's mission to build schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. But, it is about more than just building schools. It is a reminder of how a regular person can change the world, one act at a time.

In Three Cups of Tea, David Oliver Relin tells the story of Greg Mortenson and the Central Asia Institute. It starts when Mortenson (or "Dr. Greg" as the locals eventually call him) gets slightly lost on a descent from K2. He wanders into a small village and is nursed back to health with (among other remedies) tea. According to a Balti proverb, "The first time you share tea with a Balti, you are a stranger. The second time, you are an honored guest. The third time, you become family." Finally recovered, Mortenson sees children doing arithmetic with sticks in the dirt. He vows to return to the region and build a school. Not only does he eventually return and build a school, but he builds many other schools, survives a kidnapping, meets...
