Attempting to give a cat a pill is about as easy as it is to unscramble an egg. I have 7 cats in the house at the moment (3 pets and 4 fosters) and one of them has tapeworms which means that they ALL have to be treated. I bought a new pill dispenser this afternoon in preparation for the Afternoon Pill Challenge, but I also bought a bag of Greenies Feline Pill Pockets to see if they could get the job done without the inevitable blood donation required with the pill dispenser. I can tell you this: not every cat was willing to eat the Pill Pockets, but several of them were which made my life MUCH easier today.

Greenies Feline Pill Pockets are basically flavored treats (chicken or salmon flavor) with holes in them for you to pop a pill into. These treats are extra soft which allows you to seal up the hole and ensure that the pill is completely hidden. I used these Chicken Pill Pockets to hide deworming pills that they absolutely HATE. One of the cats actually starts foaming up...
...

VaBookworm87 says "The cats love 'em!" about Greenies Pill Pockets for Cats

We've got four cats, and have always had to pin them down and shove the pill down their throat whenever they were sick. When our youngest cat recently was diagnosed with a UTI, the docs gave us a bag of Greenies Pill Pockets to try. We were skeptical, and at first our cat stuck his nose up at it. He tried to eat it, but spit up the pill after eating the treat. I gave him one without the pill later that afternoon, and he devoured the treat. I then gave him another, with the pill inside, and he ate that one too! He was doing well for a couple of days, but he seems to have figured out that those treats smell good but taste bitter after he bites into the pill. I have to trick him every so often by giving him a treat without anything in it. I think the concept is awesome, and I will say it has made the process 110% easier than it had been. I just wish he'd cooperate a little better! I think part of his problem is with the consistency... He struggles a bit with the chewy treat and it gums up...
...

Greenies Pill Pockets for Cats is an amazing product. I always dreaded giving any medication at all to my cats. You had to wrap them in a towel and then have another person help you open the cat's mouth while you shoved the pill in. It was dreadful and exhausting. You felt so badly for the cat and felt guilty about the whole thing. Your cat would fight and bite and hate you for the experience.

Well, with Greenies Pill Pockets for Cats all that horror is gone. You just take at least two Greenies Pill Pocket for Cats out of the package, offer one to your cat or kitten to get her interest (and indeed&******** will be, as they must smell and taste wonderful to them). Then you take the second Greenies Pill Pocket for Cats (which are shaped like a little round basket) and insert the pill into the opening of it. With your thumb and forefinger you then squeeze gently to seal the basket top with the pill inside. Voila! Give this to your cat and she will gobble it up...
...

I received a small package of Greenies Feline Pill Pockets as a sample from my vet. I really did not believe that my cat would take a pill with them. He is mean as a snake when it comes to taking medicine. I figured he would sniff it and walk away. I could not have been more wrong. I put the pill inside the Greenie Pill Pocket and threw it in his food bowl. I was thrilled to see him scarf it down without a moments hesitation. Even though I think they are a little overpriced I will happuily buy a pack anytime my little Romeo needs to take a pill. I'm sure we will both be much happier....

Greenies Pill Pockets are NOT as useful as the original Pill Pockets company they bought!

One of our cats has been taking a total of 5 pills daily in 4 Pill Pockets for the past year. As soon as Greenies took over they apparently reduced the moisture content which leads to less 'holding' of the pills, significantly reducing their usefulness. Other elelments have been altered as well leading to a much less effective product. This is quite unfortunate for people like us - I have called them about it and the rep was rather disinterested in the request to leave the original formula alone. Obviously Greenies in not as interested in the product as the marketing novelty.

Our ultimate solution was to seek out and buy up 48 bags of the original Pill Pockets from old stock - they work great. Unfortunately we will run out in about 5 months. Since the present PP are only marginally useful, we will continue to purchase the original anywhere it can be found.

Here is a market waiting to be...
...

These pill pockets are one of the greatest inventions of the 21st century! None of my cats are easy to give pills to so I'm always looking for a way to hide the pill but make sure each one gets the right dose. When I found these, they were expensive but I thought, "What the heck?" And I am so glad I tried them. Pill-taking has a whole new ambience in our home. My cats think they are getting treats. I do have one cat that doesn't like treats, so it's still kind of hard to give her the pill pocket but not as difficult as it was without it. These are certainly worth the expense....

OK so here we are. Seven days since I took the cat to the vet and 21 pills later. And I'm exhausted. The first few days with the assistance of the Apothecary Pill Dispenser were pretty good. But then she got smart and started hiding from us when it was time for her P-I-L-L. Or she would hide it in her cheek like a giant chipmunk and spit them out in a later time.

I am just weary from the hunting, wrapping her in a towel, and the whole alligator death roll routine twice today. The thought of having to do all that again tonight had me pretty down so I tried something new and I'm amazed that it worked.

Last week when I bought the dispenser, I also bought a product called Pill Pockets for Cats in the salmon flavor. They are basicall sticky hollow balls of cat treat that you cram a pill into and then smoosh the treat around the pill. My cat is not a big snacker and not one to go crazy over treats so I don't know why I bought them. Now a week later I'm thinking it must have...
...
