We have used Green Dot for years, we have had not problems, except that for a long time we were able to put $900.00 on the card, then all of a sudden we could only put $500.00, we were upset, we found out that we had to upgrade to the Green Dot Supreme, well we did, and was informed that we could put $2,500.00 on the card. Well, it never happened that way. We have only been able to put no more than $800.00 on the card. The card always never lets us go over our limit that we put on the card. Until now. We paid our bills, then all of a sudden it showed that we had $374.00, our bills showed posted, So, we went and bought groceries, well the next day it showed $392.89 in the negative, and everything was posted, and went thru. I feel that someone got into our system of the card, messed with our account, or something, this is not a good thing. All of our bills were posted as paid, and we called and made sure , we doubled check everything, and we even called Green Dot, and was told that everything...
...

Total ripoff. First, you have to buy a card, no matter what you put on it, the card costs at least $10... JUST FOR THE ACTUAL CARD! Then it costs you $4.95 just to reload it. Then you have to supply your social security number! What the hell? Why do they need this?

Very, very schetchy company.
When I called for a refund I was directed to an answering sercive in India...hmmmm, untouchable by US fraud laws? I tried calling in for three days... THREE DAYS for a refund. I finally got a hold of someone. They took my information, said I would receive a refund check, first class mail. That was two months ago. I called again today, same issue.

I guess I'm out over $100. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CRAP-ASS RIPOFF CARD! I'm notifying Walgreens, CVS and any other company that carries them. Hopefully they'll pull them from their shelves.
...

I wouldnt recommend Greendot to my worse enemy. I'd advise any and everyone to NEVER use it and if you do, get your money out now while you can. I started using Greendot when it first came out. Didnt use it often, just to fastly receive money from relatives in other locations. Thought it was easier and cheaper than the money transfer services. Well. I guess Greendot got greedy and desperate because 2 of my accounts and accounts from a couple of my friends, whom Id recommend to GD, got frozen. They gave nonsense reasons for taking our money. Claiming mothers maiden names didnt match, social security# didnt match. And they wont tell you theres a problem with the account UNTIL youve given them your money. After all that, they refuse to refund money. After hours on the phone with foreign speaking people who only say only line, "Im sorry about the trouble" I got a supervisor to say He'd refund my money but its been 2 months and i havent received it. The inconvience is horrible. The customer...
...

I've had my Greendot card for over a year, and its worked out fine for what I need. The other day, I went to Office Depot to make a purchase of around $30. The cashier rang me up, and I slid my card in, hit debit, and entered my pin. Declined. But I knew I had a couple hundred dollars on the card. So I tried again. Still Declined. I went home emptyhanded and checked on line. I saw two postings for Office Depot for the same roughly $30 amount listed as "pending" but not declined. I also saw that I had plenty of money to cover the amount, and couldn't understand why it had been declined. So I called customer service, and listening carefully it wasn't to hard to get to a live representative. I asked why the card had been declined. The representative said that Greendot okayed the transaction, but Office Depot "declined" at their end. She apologized for the inconvenience and explained that both "pending" amounts would become available again within 5 days. I was annoyed, but reassured....
...

I was very disappointed in the Customer Service, or should I say the Lack of Customer Service. With the fees involved with this card you should at least be able to speak with a person that has knowledge of the business. I thought this card would be great, but after trying to call them and getting the run around for more then 2 hours, I was finally told to contact Walmart where the card was purchased and see if they could help me. What? Its Green Dots card and they won't help me? I then called the main office of Walmart in Bentonville, AR. They in turn tried to call Green Dot, and what do you know, they too spent well over 2 hours trying to get answers. Their final suggestion to me was to cancel the card. They too have had nothing but headaches from customers that can't get help. The corporate office said that after today they will be looking into Green Dot and will be pulling it from their stores for sale. They stated it was just another SCAM CARD. The continuous......

Re: Green Dot - Prepaid Mastercard

I'll try to make this short as possible. I purchased a green dot prepaid-mastercard. I started with $50.00, my first purchase was for $10.00, but the next day I tried to make a $18.00 purchase, but this card was denied. Later, I tried to contact someone in customer service to get information & find out why, but all I was able to get was a series of voice promps that got me no where. After trying several times, I did speak with someone, I asked what was her name, she said her name was "Corey", I told her what had happened. Ms. Corey stated that I had already made a purchase of $35.00. I stated that was not true & impossible, because I had only used the card once on a $10.00 purchase. I then asked when was this $35.00 purchase made? She told me when this purchase was made......get this!...the purchase was made before I even activated my card!!!!

Of course I was a upset and asked where & what was purchased. She stated she did know the business name,...
...

I got this card as a graduation present from a family member. I was only 17 when I recieved it, when I tried to activate it, It said I needed a parent to call the number. I was going to be 18 in about 2 weeks so I decided to just try again when I turned 18. I did try after my 18th birthday, but then online they could not verify it was me so I then called the number given, it took me forever to get somebody to talk to and they send I needed to send in a electricity bill a phone bill and a copy of my social security card. I told them I was only 18 and that my parents paid the bills and I didn't not feel comfortable handing out my social security card to people or companys I did not trust. He then said "well I'm sorry mam we need those documents" I then asked to speak to his suprivisor who could maybe help me and she was also taking phone calls so I could not talk to her. By then I was getting upset and just asked for a refund he said no problem and said a check would be to me in 7-10 buisness...
...

I wanted to get a credit card so I could buy a bunch of stuff off the internet and not worry about identity theft. When I saw that CVS had a sale on Green Dot Prepaid MasterCard's I jumped for the chance. I guessed to put money on the card it would only cost $4.95. Boy was I wrong. It costs $9.95 just to activate. After putting money on my card I expected to go home with it. Nope wrong again. I had to go home, and get on the phone to activate it. On the phone I could barely understand the Green Dot lady because of her accent. It took 8 days to arrive. So far I'm pleased with it, but wouldn't do business with Green Dot again and would not recommend it. If you do want to buy one buy it at the beginning of the month because you will have longer to spend it before the monthly fee.

On July 15, 2009 Green Dot got rid of the policy of charging for phone calls asking for your balance. They then raised the monthly fee to $5.95.
