I have a golden retriever (mixed with a collie) mutts I have found are the best dogs. His name is Milo and we rescued him from a shelter about 3 years ago. He is the most trustworthy and loyal dog. He is a little more protective than I'm sure some dogs would be but he is very kind. He absolutely loves children and plays nicely with them. He does jump which we have almost completely broken him of. We jokingly call him our kangaroo dog because he can jump clean over the 6 foot privacy fence we added in our backyard if he likes what is on the other side of it. (no joke) I am sure that all breeds of dogs have their own pros and cons but he is truly an all around good dog. He also so far has had no health problems to speak of and he is very healthy and we keep him active. He has a lot of room to run around in our back yard and he needs it because he is FAST! I would recommend this breed to anyone!
...

I got into golden retrievers at the age of five when I received the best birthday present still to this day. I got a one year purebred golden which I hence named Shadow...after the Homeward Bound movie. From that day on, I have never had a better friend. A year after we got Shadow, we got into the breeding business. The puppies were endless and my life was thoroughly complete. The breed, to this day, ceases to amaze me. Goldens are full of life. They are friendly, loving, energetic, and adventurous. If looking for a companion to explore, go out for a walk, or just lay around with you can't find a better breed than the Golden. Today, I have a golden retriever mix named Buddy that is a continuous blessing in my life. Rescued from a shelter, he always seems to be grateful in a sense. Every Golden that has been a part of my life, the number is very high, has always gotten along well with other dogs..which is an amazing feat in and of itself. No matter what aspect of the breed one is considering,...
...

My son finally found a dog which he enjoyed. A Golden Retriever who has been a great companion for him and full of energy, warmth , swims the rivers, chase sticks and is never really grouchy ! He loves all people and is so sweet. The one draw back is they have some health problems which I do believe he has out grown for him personally. When he was very young, but 4 months old he developed a sore front shoulder which was absolutely painful for him where he would want to sleep all of the time. The vet called it Chrodrinitus which could require surgery if it kept bothering him. Lucked out, he seems ok. Now he gets ear infections which is caused by food allergies. The ear aquires alot of brown wax and the flap of his ear and inside turns red. Take your dog to the vet and get ear drops with hydrocortisone and antibiotics, Cephalexin,w hich should do it. Change your dog food to organic without soy, grains , wheat. It gets expensive but Natural Balance or Natures Recipe,...
...

I have never met a Golden Retriever I did not instantly like. They are so smart and full of life. They are wonderful with children and other animals. Our Golden Retriever died over ten years ago and friends and family still talk about him. We could teach him almost anything. We even taught him to "Whisper" When we told him to speak he would bark loudly, when we told him to whisper he would bark very, very softly. It must have taken him a lot of control to do that. He was also frisbee obsessed. He would chase a frisbee as long as we threw it often well beyond his own level of exhaustion had been reached - and he'd still come back to us wanting it thrown more.

Sadly he developed hip problems in his old age. This is actually quite common in Goldens and the only true minus I can think of about the breed.
...

I have always been a pet lover and have owned multiple pets. Twelve years ago I purchased a Golden Retriever puppy from a private breeder. She has been a great pet and friend. SHe is very loyal and was easy to train. I now have a three year old daughter that just loves her. Summer is gentle with her and watches over her as she does ogther children as well. I also work twelve hour shifts and never have to worry about her messing in the house or chewing stuff up. I have not had issyes with her hips either but occasionally she gets tendonitis in her paw/ankle. She also has had multiple ear infections which have cleared with a simple antibiotic ear drop. The only other complaint that I would have is that she does shed a whole lot but these things are minor whrn you have such a good dog. If you are considering a Golden Retriever please plan on having some room for them to play outside or atleast somewhere to take them to play, they love it. They are quite adaptable too,...
...

I love golden retrievers, and I have one of my own. Goldens are great with kids and they are very cute. They do shed a ton, all over furniture and things, but there are special dog brushes you can use to remove some of the shedding hair, and some other various things to remove hair from furniture and stuff.

Goldens are sweet, loyal, and even protective. They're playful too! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a sweet dog. They are big, but in my experiance they are easy to train.
...

Golden Retrievers are a wonderful breed. Sure the shed, however if you brush them everyday and take care of their coat, it won't be so bad. They are a very loyal and loving breed. There isn't anything they wouldn't do for you always eager to please. We breed goldens 4 years and used our male as a stud for 3 other owners of goldens. They liked the qualityies in him as did we. We also wanted to help improve and preserve the good qualities of the breed, so that is why we bred ours. We sold the pups at 6 weeks of age. We had big litters ( 10, 11, 12, & 15) always sold out. Never any complaints. Most just wanted a family pet, some for hunting, and a couple of them were bought for breeding purposes. We then neutered and spayed our dogs to give them a healthier life. They are the greatest! Make sure you check into the parents health when buying a pup. Ours were good through the 4th generation back as far as bad hips and eyes. Of cource many things can skip generations and pop up later, so be...
...

Golden Retrievers a very nice, gentle dog. They love to be affectionated. My neighbors have an golden retriever. And when i first met it i wished i had one. I instantly fell in love with it. They have an amazing coat. They do shed alot and bark alot. And every time you turn around they have to go to the bathroom. When they shed their hair is very noticible because it is a golden colour. But otherwise they are a great dog. They love to swim in the water. Their doggy paddle is soooo adorable. They are true to their name they love to retrieve. Anytrhing you put in the water they will retrieve it!! They are amazing with cats and other dogs. They do enjoy fish a little tooo much. They try to knock off the bowl. hahah They are adorable when they are puppies and you are sure to get tons of complements on how cute they are. They do get big thought GIGANTIC!! the can knock little kids over and will run into you easily. But overall Golden Retrievers are amazing dogs.
...

I love my dog. He was owned previously by a family member and was going to give him up. The asked me if my husband and I would adopt him due to the room in my yard and the fact I had two cockers. I was so used to small dogs and was a little apprehensive about owning a large dog. When I looked in his eyes I knew he was staying with us. He was 4 years old at the time and is 10 now. He's my angel. My cocker's have past and we have 2 cockerpoos. I believe he trained the two girls to be just like him. He is the sweetest dog I have ever owned. He is a professional swimmer. He actually dives in the pool and retrieves a rocket from 8 1/2 feet deep. He is so much fun to watch. His biggest problem is that he thinks the pool is his and if you would like to come in that's fine but he's not getting out. I have to say it your going to get this breed, pay well for a good breeder. It is so worth it.
...

Goldens are truly a mans best friend. I have had three goldens now and cannot see my life without them. While they do shed, it is seasonal, meaning they shed most in the warmer months. Goldens are people pleasers and will learn a lot, very quickly. My newest golden is a nine month old rescue puppy who had never been in a house or anything and after two hours was fully house broken just from following the other dogs example. These dogs are amazing around other dogs and children and will calm down quicker than a lab or poodle will. The more red/orange goldens are more prone to allergies than the lighter white colored ones, but that can be controlled with which food is given and different medications, and it is worth the extra money if you want a family dog that will be with you for a long time. Both of my last two lived to be 15, which is longer than most large breeds. Overall I HIGHLY recommend golden retrievers to anyone looking for an outstanding family dog and friend.
...

If you have ever owned a Golden Retriever then you of course know they are the most loving, loyal, smartest, amazing dogs. I have a 9 year old Golden that I have had since he was 6 weeks old. Next to my son, he is the most important thing in my life. He makes everyday a joy. Even though he is 9 years old he still acts and plays like he was still a puppy. He would play ball all day if he could find a someone to play with him. If he's not playing ball he's balancing the ball at the top of the steps with his nose trying not to push it off the edge, but pushing it forward and then catching it with his front paws if it starts to go over. Golden Retrievers are extremely smart. I can tell mine to do something and he knows exactly what I said. He is not just a pet, but he is a member of my family. If I'm ever having a bad day all I have to do is look at Luke and everything is better. He puts a smile on my face. You couldn't ask for a better friend! Probably the only down...
...

Is a review necessary for such an amazing animal? I think not....but because there is a category for my one true love, I must write about her. Golden's are very friendly, passive dogs. My favorite, very light colored, Bailey dog, also known as God in my house, sheds too much. This is the only complaint I have with my golden. She is beautiful, plays with any other pup, two year old, or old geezer in the neighborhood. Fair warning though, please give your golden, or any dog, sufficient exercise. If pup's aren't given enough exercise time, they are seriously annoying and unhappy.

PS.
