bparker says "Be a leader for older girls." about Girl Scouts

I've been involved in girl scouting for many years, a leader of older girls for 5 years now. It really is a good place for girls to get a sense of community. They get a bigger picture of their immediate community and it's needs. Learning that, all by themselves they can make a difference in their communities is the gem of it. And, if they have a good leader, they learn that community service projects can be a lot of fun. Keeping it theirs and keeping it fun is the secret to a good group.

If they stay together throughout their teen years they also learn to overcome the embarassments of being in scouts and be proud of their accomplishments, (especially if their leader is patient and lets them set their own rules). I've even witnessed girls helping each other through very tough times, likes deaths of parents, drugs and sexuality. It is really very much like a family atmsphere as they grow in scouts, not necessarily best friends at school and in the outside world, but girls...
...

pef1996 says "A great experience for my daughters" about Girl Scouts

When I was a little girl, I really wanted to join Girl Scouts, but my mom wouldn't let me. For what reason, I have no clue. But I always heard how much fun the girls had and I wanted my daughters to have that same experience.

So when my oldest turned five, we decided to let her join. Now she is nine and she loves it! Not only do they have the cookie sales (which she enjoys participating in), but they do different activities to better their social skills, learn about the environment and how to take care of their bodies. They learn to work as a team and she has made many new friends through the years.

Now my second oldest daughter is a Daisy and loves it just as much as my oldest. They both plan on being in Girl Scouts until they can't do it any longer.

I would recommend Girl Scouts for any parent wanting their daughter to partcipate in a fun group of girls and to learn more than they would any other way plus they are doing it with friends....

jasyjen says "Very expensive, but still something I buy." about Girl Scouts

The price we pay for these cookies is absolutely ridiculous, but still.....there I am; taken in by the precious girl scouts, buying two or three boxes. I tell myself, "No! Don't do it!" But I know it's going for a good cause, and it's hard saying no to those sweet little girls!

My favorite is the Shortbread Cookie. Oh my gosh they are good! Especially with coffee. And of course, I have to have the Thin Mints. The Thin Mints, I think, are the best deal. I think you get a slightly larger amount with them than you do the others. But even still, I think they cost me $ 3.25 a box this year. That's just insane. I really think if they don't quit raising the price every year, that people will quit buying them.
...

cozycoe says "They keep getting smaller, but more expensive." about Girl Scouts

Every year I help out the neighborhood girls by buying girl scout cookies. This year I am very dissappointed. The cookies themselves are smaller, and the amount you get in a package is less, but the price goes up. They are pricing themselves out of business and putting these young girls in a position of having to defend a product they have no control over....

A lifetime experience.

As I was growing up I belong to Girl Scouts. I loved it. I meet girls with the same interests and we had fun. Earning a badge was cool and we loved to do it.Camp was great and we learned new and different things. We meet other Girl Scouts. I was a Brownie,Junior and Cadet.

A few years ago we lived in an area outside of Wisconsin were girls did not have access to Girl Scouts. I didn't like that so I moved my daughter back to my hometown. Right away she joined. She has made friends that I know can last a lifetime and learned so much. She has learned things thru Girl Scouts that I as a parent couldn't teach her. She has learned the about true friendship, working together as a group among other things.

I will always have a place in my heart for Girl Scouts and am active in her group. It is a great place for young girls to grow nd become the women of tomorrow.
...

Volunteer to be a leader so that your daughter can make new friends, visit new places, develop leadership skills, build her self esteem. Volunteer to be a leader so that you can show the girls in your community that there is more to do and see outside the comfort of their neighborhood. Volunteer to be a leader, complete training and make new friends with other leaders....
