This is the worst machine I have ever owned. We hadn't owned it long when it started to make strange noises. I am very careful about not overloading it, but soon after the agitator quit working. When we tried to get it fixed or even sell it to a parts store, the repairman showed us about 10 or so GE washers he had that had also quit working, He said they all had the same problem as ours, a bad transmission. Afterward I looked online and saw that these are know for their bad trans. Now we own a Kenmore and it seems to be working fine. Will never buy a large GE appliance again.
...

teachermom24 says "terribly regret purchase of GE washer" about GE Washer

I bought a GW Profile washer (model WJRE5500G1WW) 18 months ago when we moved to our new home. There are many features on it I never liked but it did an adequate job and we weren't in a position to buy a new one. Now it has been unuseable for two weeks, going on three. First it needed a new lid switch, now the control panel has to be replaced.

I have been on the phone with several GE reps (and It was extremely difficult to get to talk to a real live human being!) who give the same mantra, "It's out of warranty. It's your problem." One tech suggested it was not a problem with the machine but we must have had a lightning bolt or a power surge blow out the control panel. ha! ha! The machine quit cold one day after I had already done four loads of wash--I guess I missed the lightning bolt that slipped in after the 4th load!

I read about another GE Profile washer on another site requiring $500 worth of repairs after 15 months, for a problem that GE knows about. I do not want to deal with...
...

Very disappointed in this product. Paid $400 for this thing, thought at the time we bought a half way decent washing machine, especially sent GE has been around awhile, well I guess we were wrong. Just after the warranty ran out, we can't get just cold water out of it, we have to watch that the warm water doesn't turn to just HOT mid fill and now the on button (which is attached to the main board, of all things is PLASTIC) I had a service man take a look at it and the main board alone is over $200, he told me that it would be a waste of money to fix this machine, that I would be throwing good money after bad machine. By the time I pay for the part, (main board) and the labor plus a service call, I can almost go out and purchase a new one, that again would be under warranty. So, I'm gonna wait awhile, then replace it, if I don't shoot it first. But I know that I will NEVER buy a GE washing machine again!!!!!!! The last one we had was a Sears, for over 20 years, I don't know...
...

We built our house in April 2006 and had a new GE washer put in then. It already has stopped working. It skips cycles, smells horribly and the hose has disconnected and spilled gallons and gallons of water all over my floor. If I did not have tile and noticed the spills right when they happened, I would have had some huge clean up bills. Three years just does not seem like the right timeframe for a washer to go on the fritz. My parents had the same washer with very few problems for almost 20 years. In all honesty, I am not very fond of GE for any of my appliances, all of which are GE. I really expected a much higher quality from a company that has been around so long. I also have not had the best customer service from the company. The builder, always referred us to GE when we had a problem with appliances and it states right on their website you will be charged a fee regardless of the outcome of their visit. This personally does not work for me. Next time I will buy a different brand of...
...

GE Washer S2100G5WW. This is my newest washer. I have just moved into this new home, I bought a washer and Dryer actually. I wanted a temporary one until I am ready to replace a better one that was destroyed in the move. I am still in the testing stages, but this model is a life saver. The sheer simplicity makes it an attractive purchase, but my big surprise came when I forgot that this was not my previous washer and I used it as would have used my old heavy duty washer (I'll leave that model out since it is not under review). Have you ever washed pillows in a home washer? They get really heavy due to the amount of water they soak up and place a huge demand on the washers motor to spin. Well, I had two in at the same time and I thought that I might have broken it when I realized my error. I ran to my laundry room and found that the rinse and spin cycle were complete and it finished without event. I am now convinced of the strength of this washer and for the price I could not expect...
...

I just purchased a GE washer and I love it. The clothes come out cleaner because the agitator is more vigorous then past washers I have owned.,I love the super size tub I can wash larger loads or still do the small batch up if i want to.It was quick to install and is easy for my teens to use so they can throw in a load if they choose....

Without a model number, I can't be completely sure this is the GE Top Load Washer I purchase from Home Depot in Oct., but it sure looks the same in the picture.

We surrendered an old Tappan washer/dryer set, because they were just plain worn out. I was so happy to see an immediate difference in our laundry the very first time I fired up this GE washer. It's incredibly quiet while running; in fact I thought the wash cycle wasn't working right the first time I used it because it's a different technology (for top loaders) than I'm used to, but it sure does the job at an affordable price. There are several settings to accomodate most household needs. I'm very happy with it.

What I purchased was the heavy duty tub size. I also purchased the GE Dryer sitting next to it on the display floor. That's a whole 'nuther review, but I'm quite pleased with it also.

Edited to add the model # of my GE Top Loader;

WHDRR418GWW

...

GE washing machines are one of the best machines I have ever owned, I buy them and if they go out, I buy another as they are to me the most reliable washing machine. I do not however suggest buying parts for them as the parts are pretty high on price. So if your on a budget like mine, purchase a used one, we have had the same one that I purchased used 3 1/2 years ago and it is still running great....

This washing maching was bottom of the line purchased at Sam's Club. Within three months, I was unable to use the small load cycle, the washer would leak water all ove the floor. Also within three months, I was unable to turn the knob to the correct cycle, it doesn't work, I have to hold it down really really hard. I haven't had the money to get it fixed yet....
