AvaTester says "My GE Profile Refrigerator keeps my food at a safe temperature" about GE Profile Refrigerator

Once it was determined that the temperature was not holding due to a faulty-styled air transfer cover, our GE Profile 2 door, 2 drawer bottom freezer refrigerator has been great at keeping items at the required temperature. I love the alarm that reminds me to close a door or drawer although I would prefer that these closed with less interaction from me! The space to put large items like cakes or casseroles makes this unit so much more useful for my family and the no spill pull out shelves make it easier to get to items in the back of the refrigerator. Having used this unit for a year, I'm thrilled with how much easier it is to utilize the freezer drawers on the bottom. No cold air blowing in your face and there is greater ease in finding food!...

tresa46 says "GE Profile-Artic freezer door pops open when fridge closes " about GE Profile Refrigerator

We purchased the GE Profile because of its large capacity and interior design for our new home which was built with custom cabinets which left a space specifically for the GE Profile. We immediately found that we had to put one hand on the freezer door to keep it from popping open when we closed the fridge door. We bought the GE in 1991 which lasted to 2004 (13 yrs). We replaced it with the same Profile "Artic" and found the same problem with the freezer door. We pointed the problem out to the retailer who was unaware of any such complaint.

Because of the limits imposed by our built-in cabinets and being good GE customers, we, decided to stick with the Profile and apply the bandaid fix, namely, holding the freezer door shut when closing the fridge door. First time, shame on GE for making a mediocre quality product. Second time, shame on us for purchasing a poorly designed refrigerator. Because of the poorly designed freezer door and mediocre quality of the refrigerator,...
...

I purchased this side-by-side after my old GE side-by-side refrigerator broke down. I was so happy with my old GE side-by-side that I decided I had to have another. My old GE had so much space, the ice dispenser was wonderful, and the fridge was very quiet. The first night I could hear this strange sound from the fridge. It was quiet but high pitched and annoying. I did forget about the sound after awhile and not annoying anymore. Soon after, I noticed my fruit and vegetables were frozen. Obviously when the service peole came over there was no problem. Milk is hot on the top shelf because the lights so hot which is directly above the top shelf. The light is huge and can't put 2 liter bottles where the huge light is. The shelves pull out; this is stupid because the food in the back fall off the back when you pull the shelves out!!!! I have owned this fridge for 1 1/2 years and going to bring it to my lake cottage because I can't live with it anymore. Oh, one more thing. ...
...

The GE Profile refrigerator has the freezer drawer on the bottom which is very convenient to have but it could use a little more drawer space. The refrigerator top is very well organized with large shelving on both sides of the doors very to keep everything in order. The shelves are glass and very easy to keep clean. There is a built in ice maker which is located in the freezer section only. On the front of the refrigerator is a digital display where you can set an alarm to go off if the door is left open for a period of time. This is very convenient when you have small children and they do not always close the door. The temperature of the refrigerator and the freezer are very easily monitored on the door as well. The temperature can be increased and decreased. This refrigerator is very energy efficient and can be set to a quick cool . I would definitely recommend this Ge Profile refrigerator.
...

This is the first negative comment I have made on this site, but I need to warn people not to purchase the GE Profile refrigerator/freezer. I have had the GE Profile refrigerator for over five years and it has only been trouble. I think sometimes I see the Sears repair man more than my family. The temperature is impossible to regulate. The first year we had this refrigerator it completely broke down and Sears had to reimburse us for the contents. The freezer temperature goes up and down so often the food is frost covered. This summer we had the same problem, but luckily I removed the food before it defrosted. In addition to the temperature regulation the interior is difficult to pack. The bulbs and the insulation are in the way when you want to put large bottles inside. The bulbs also emit heat which increases the temperature so we had to take one of the bulbs out. Also the bulb cover is in the way. I purchased this refrigerator because we added a new kitchen and wanted...
...

We purchased a GE refrigerator and the extended service contract that GE offered. After 4 years it broke. It was repaired under the service contract or warranty, but that repair did not last long. It has been redone 8 more times - 9 times total for the identical problem. GE has refused to replace the refrigerator and has only offered a discount - off the retail price - for us to replace it. The problem is, I could get it for less from any number of appliance discounters. Absolutely worthless discount. Total waste of money for the refrigerator and the hundreds of dollars we paid for the extended service contract.
...

I bought GE Profile top freezer refrigerator 3 and half years back. It was not maintaining the temperatures. Called GE. They sent a service guys who replaced the controller board on the back in 10 minutes and charged top $$. Apparently the replaced parts comes with 5 year warranty where as the original part has only 1 yr warranty!! If you do not have extended warranty you could be spending on lot of labor and repairs.

I expected GE profile to be very reliable. Apparently not.
...

I originally passed up other refrigerators like this one for the GE because of a good reputation GE has had in the past. Key word is the past! I paid over $2000 dollors for this refrigerator and have now had it three years. The first day I received the appliance, the main part that regulates the temperature was not working. Six days later they sent someone to fix it. He didn't know enough about it so a GE technician came and worked on installing a new temperature regulator. About a year and a half later it died, so another was installed and here it is about 14 months later and it again is not working properly. I am waiting for the tech to call me. Two shelves have broken, and also the vegetable bins! Pieces just break off seemingly for no reason! We are all adults in my household and in 30 years I have never had shelves break on my refrigerator doors before. When I first got married I bought a refrigerator that was used, for $135 and it lasted me 25 years and not one piece on it was broken!...
...

We designed the kitchen around type refrigerator. First we bought the size to fit in the corner of the original cabinets (narrow), then remodeled. Wrong. Should have bought the bigger refrigerator with a bottom freezer and one door on top or a side-by-side! Water dispensor is on inside, like outside. Like ice cubes dispensed outside not picking by hand inside. It is so nice looking. If I didn't use it much, then yes, it would be adorable. The stainless is not a problem to clean, either, but I did love my old textured model.
...

The GE Profile Side by Side Cabinet width refrigerator has many options.

The one I like best is the the water filter system. It keeps the water running through the dispensing system clear and clean tasting. You only need to change the filter once per year. I do not buy bottled water anymore because the water from this system tastes great. You can get the filter at Home Depot for around $50.

It also has a drawer in the refrigerator which will cool beverages very quickly if needed.

Cleaning the refrigerator is very easy. All shelves can be taken out and put back in very easily. The stainless steel on the outside of the refrigerator stays pretty clean actually. I usually use a stainless steel cleaner on it following the directions on the product and it comes out looking great.

As far as esthetics, this refrigerator looks so good in your kitchen since it does not stick out from the cabinet width.

The inside is a little small, so if you have a big family, it would probably...
...

When we bought the GE Profile refrigirator about 10 years ago - I was thinking it was the coolest thing in the world. I actually wanted this side-by-side, was looking for the best deal everywhere and was determined to get this one.

Now I see how much more convinient are the today's refregirators with the lower freezer bin. It is amazing how fast everythng is changin in this applince world. I still remember the small fridge that this one replaced and made me quite happy. I guess we are always chasing our own tail with technology moving forward...

The ice maker has a tendency to stop making ice once in a while. Very inconvinient and never about time. It always happens when we have guests. It does not make any sense to fix it - too much investment for the old refrigirator. I am better off to wait for it to stop working all together and simply replace it then. I wonder what will be available even more cool then!
...
