teanuty says "Don't walk away from this dishwasher, RUN!!!" about GE Profile Dishwasher

GE Profile Dishwasher-PDW9200

The control panel on this dishwasher has never worked, I have been unable to change cycles since it was about a month old. It is stuck in regular wash, heated dry. So it does a horrible job washing and melts all my plastic. Absolutely useless! I called GE for service while it was still under warrenty and was routed through dozens of recorded messages and never able to speak with human being, nor have it fixed while under warrenty. I can't afford to replace this appliance; so I have been handwashing everything first, then putting the dishes in super far apart, turning it on, then having to rewash about half of the dishes. It even washes horrible for regular cycle.

Recently, I found out that almost all the GE Profile models have been recalled due to this same issue, defective control module, my particular model isn't among them; so I am out of luck.

I will NEVER buy another GE product again!!!
...

Bought this fancy GE Profile Dishwasher for a kicthen remodel and it was a waste of good money. It never cleans the dishes. GE added additional spiral nozzles but did not put enough holes in them and the water pump does not put out enough pressure to dislodge food particles. The GE replaced an old Whirlpool dishwasher that was 15 years old and the old Whirlpool did a better job cleanning.
...

We purchased a GE Profile dishwasher 18 months ago. I wanted one that was fully integrated (no controls on the outside). I love the fact that it automatically dispenses the detergent. It does an ok job of cleaning, but I wouldn't say it is great. Unfortunately, for us, we wasted our money and should have bought something else. We have had a technician come 4 times for repairs. On one of the occasions he put in a new pump because the water wasn't draining. Since it was still under warranty, there was no charge. The same problem has now reoccured and since the warranty on the diswasher (1 year) and the new part (90 days) has expired, we are on our own and need to pay the service charge, parts and labour on the repair (about $400). Prior to buying this expensive dishwasher we had a cheap, plastic Inglis which ran perfectly for 20 years. We got rid of it because it wasn't as "pretty" and beautiful as the GE. It is not cost effective to spend $400 a year on a dishwasher,...
...

Gee, my GE is a star! A triple Star...

I love that it has a large capacity load basket for those times when my dogs make a mess and I wind up having to use every rag in the house to clean up after them! Or, when I'm having to wash my blankets, I don't have to take them to the commercial washers in town--I can do them right here at home. And, because I'm extra sensitive to soaps and cleaners, I can do an extra rinse to be sure I get all the cleaners out of my clothes before putting them in the dryer. And, the fact that my washer is an Energy Saving device is good for me and the environment!
...

The GE Profile Dishwasher does a pretty good job at washing but once in a while it will leak around the seal on the door. It doesn't leak much at all. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. The dishes do come out quite clean. There is plenty of room to put a days worthe of dishes in it. I have a family of 6. My youngest just stopped taking the bottle but when he was still taking a bottle he would go through at least 7-9 bottles a day and I had no problem fitting his bottles and the rest of the families dishes in it everyday. I never worried about the bottles not getting clean enough for my baby. The GE Profile Dishwasher runs really quiet. You can hear it running softly if you are in the same room but in the next room I can't hear it at all. If someone opens the door while it is running it will make a beeping noise every couple of minutes until someone relocks the door. Which is really nice when you have little ones in the house. It also has a lock button...
...

Bought my Stainless Steal GE Profile dishwasher in January 2009. We chose this dishwasher because of these features: quiteness, self-dispensing dish detergent, ability to load extra large items. I am very pleased with the quiteness. Our television and kitchen areas are completely open to each other (no walls) so noise was the most important. The best attribute of the GE Profile dishwasher is the quiteness. You could sleep next to it and not be distrubed. It is easy to keep clean when using Magic Stainless Steal cleaner. The interior is also stainless steal and this stays nice and clean with each washing. I like the top flip tray to hold large utensils. The only problem we seem to be having, which is very important is its ability to clean properly and spotting of dishes. I have had three service calls concerning the cleaning ability. The first service call required that I turn up the water heat (140 degrees). The second call said that I should not use the...
...

GE Profile Stainless Steel Dishwasher:

If you are just looking for pretty to look at and quiet then this dishwasher is for you, on the other hand if you want a dishwasher that cleans dishes look somewhere else.

We recently bought all new GE stainless steel appliances and all are great except the dishwasher. We had two GE Potscrubber and one Maytag in the past and they cleaned just fine, granted they were noisey but they did what was expected, clean. They were also in the $250-$350 price range. This peice of crap was over $1,000.

Don't even think about putting cassarole dishes with a little baked on food in this baby, go ahead and wash it by hand and save yourself the time of soaking it, after the dishwasher bakes it some more, and washing it by hand anyway

Poor appliance GE!
...

How disappointing...I paid quite a bit of money for this GE Profile dishwasher (over $1000.00) and the appliance sales person assured me that I would never have to even rinse a dish...just pop the dirty pans or dishes in the dishwasher and they will come out sparkling clean. What a hose job! I actually wash the dishes completely clean and then put them in this dishwasher and they coem out dirtier than when they went in! This model leaves a brown or black residue on dishes. I am very disappointed and will never buy a GE again. I hardly even use the piece of crap any more and just wash the dishes by hand and I can't afford to get a new dish washer now. My 15 year old Kitchen Aid cleaned rings around this piece of poop!
...

My wife, kids & I recently moved to a newer home. We decided to purchase all new GE Profile stainleess steel appliances that were delivered to us on8-31-07. That would have been a good decision except for the dishwasher. It happened to be the only 1 of 4 appliances that wasn't available right away. We decided to order it & wait anyway. It took over 1 1/2 months to arrive, so we were excited to finally get it.

Let me first say that the other GE Profile appliances that we got are very nice. The side by side fridge, the convection oven/range & the convection oven/microwave/range hood are all preforming very well. The dishwasher on the other hand is a piece of crap. The only thing it does well is look pretty. We have had service techs out on 4 occasions. On 2 visits the parts sent directly from GE were already defective. So I had to set up another appointment & waste more of my time. The main problem was that the door & seal leaked, so the entire inside...
...

We purchased all GE Profile appliances for our kitchen and began using them in June '08. The GE Profile Stainless Steel dishwasher left debris on everything...no matter that I used the recommended detergent and rinse aid and did everything GE suggested when I contacted them (raise water temp, place white vinegar in dishwasher, use "add heat" feature, etc.). Finally, I called for a technician. 3 service techs from Sears and 5 from GE and still no one can determine why there is debris on everything. They ran diagostics which show everything is working properly, so they report "everything works as it was designed"....well, the parts they ran diagnostics on may have shown they were working, but the dishwasher itself is not performing as it was designed which (correct me if I'm wrong, GE) is to CLEAN the dishes!! Several calls to GE and they finally told me there is nothing more they will do even though the dishwasher is still under the original manufacturer's warranty! I spoke two......

This dishwasher was rated very highly by Consumer's Reports. It has never performed well for us. There is always milk still in the glasses and food from the rest of the dishwasher collected on the top rack items.

There are potscrubber functions and energy saving functions and none of them seem to work.

The inside has become impossibly stained and food collects next to the heating element making it very difficult to clean.

Water pools on the items in the top rack regardless of the settings.
