mfern4 says "Noisy & Dirty" about GE Nautilus Dishwasher

We've had our Nautilus Dishwasher for 8 years. From day one it was noisy, but I was just glad to have a dishwasher (last house didn't have one). We have to turn it on when everyone goes to bed because you can't have a conversation with it on or watch tv in the other room. At first it cleaned well, however after a few years you could see a decline in the quality of cleaning. There is a film and sometimes haze on the glasses, plus it's not cleaning all the dishes and silverware properly. How gross when you go to take out the clean dishes to find food still on your forks. You almost have to clean your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. I also think it's not energy efficient. It takes about two hours for a full cycle and that is on air dry. Every once in a while the timer gets stuck on rinse so you have to monitor it or it will stay on rinse (it did this once for four hours). It doesn't leak so we keep on using it until we can find a good sale to replace it. I can't wait...
...

kulpickles says "The GE Nautilus Dishwasher is LOUD and a FIRE HAZARD!!!" about GE Nautilus Dishwasher

We recently bought a new home with a GE Nautilus dishwasher installed. It has only been three weeks and I've done dishes several times with the machine. Every time I noticed this odor. Eventually, today, and thank goodness I was home, I smelled that odor across the house, upstairs, and two rooms down a hall. I followed the smell to the kitchen where I noticed smoke coming out of the dishwasher. I also noticed that toward the top near the lock mechanism it was melting and turning a yellowish-brown. I don't think that is normal. I immediately shut the noisy thing off (yes it is loud too, but right now that is the least of my concerns). The locking mechanism was EXTREMELY hot to the touch and had to pull my hand away. I am washing all my dishes by hand until we get this thing replaced. For the record, all my appliances are GE too, and I have NEVER had a problem with any of the other ones.
...

The GE Nautilus dishwasher I own cleans well....is quiet....works very well....but......the bottom tray wants to fall into the bottom every time you slide it in or out. The wheels on the left side are just not right. Can't seem to adjust them or anything. Other than that.....it's been a great dishwasher. The previous tenant where I live now installed the dishwasher......he loved it also. His only complaint was that it did'nt rinse well enough. But personally....I think that was a dishwashing detergent problem....not the dishwasher itself. It would be nice if there were more options when it comes to choosing how it will wash. It does,nt quite fit squre under the counter either........probably an installation problem. Overall it's been a great dishwasher....I'd rate it very good at the least. The positioning of the water jets......cleaning spouts could be improved. Seems to leave alot of water and residew on the glasses on the top shelf.
...

mljt2922 says "Don't buy, it is SOOOO loud" about GE Nautilus Dishwasher

The GE Nautilus was the builder installed dishwasher when we purchased our new home. I didn't make a big deal about it because my last dishwasher wasn't a problem, but the st time we ran it, I said it had to go. It took 3 years, but finally - I can watch TV and run the dishwasher at the same time. It is a basic builder grade appliance. Yes, it's an inexpensive dishwasher, and it's also VERY loud. It did do a great job cleaning the dishes, but I notoriously would forget to run it when we went to bed and, the next morning, still dirty dishes.

The inside is small, but great for glasses and bottles. We seem to use a lot of silverware, and the silverware tray is also small. If you get this dishwasher, you will be washing large things by hand, or all by themselves.

We recently replaced it with a Samsung, which is so quiet. I can run it and watch TV without having to turn the volume. It's worth a few (ok a lot!) extra bucks to upgrade.
...

I wish we'd never gotten this GE Nautilus dishwasher. It never worked well and sounds like a 747 landing in the kitchen when it runs. Its so loud I can't run it at night without keeping people up! Also, from the get go it has left small food particles and black specks on the glasses washed on the top rack. I find myself re-rinsing them after they've come out of the dishwasher which basically defeats the purpose! I would never recommend this dishwasher to anyone and have just ordered a new one to replace it. What a waste.
...

We moved from one condo to an identical condo a block away. The big difference is the appliances and I would definately say the GE Nautilus in our new home is worlds better than the Whirlpool built-in dishwasher in our previous home. I am able to "safely" pile a lot more glassware - wine glasses, juice glasses, etc. into the top rack without worrying. There are compartments with lids that fit over the juice glasses and there are rack separaters that keep the tall glasses from falling over onto other items in the top rack. It is also quieter. The first time I used it, I came back to the kitchen to see if it was still running because I was able to hear the Whirlpool in my office while it was running and my guy preferred that I NOT run the dishwasher while he was home. He has lifted that restriction with the GE Nautilus that is actually 4 years old. It was installed new when the condos were built in 2005.
...

whanner6 says "After 3 1/2 years - I'm tired of the noise, hazy film & dirt" about GE Nautilus Dishwasher

We've had the GE Nautilus Dishwasher for almost 4 years. And what a disaster it is. First of all, while it boasts quiet function, it is so noisy that the kids can hear it running when they are upstairs! If we have company in the kitchen visiting...we literally have to turn it off or pause it so we can hear properly.

But the worst offense of all is the hazy film & dirt residue that it leaves on the dishes & cups! At this point - I am re-washing (by hand) the entire load atlesat 4 times a week! (one load a day). That's a bad track record. We thought it was the dish detergent so we have, for the past 8 months, purchased nothing but the highest priced top rated powder detergent. And that clearly isn't the issue.

Don't waste your money...because you'll end up wasting your time!
...

I have had my GE Nautilus Dishwasher for over 8 years now. It has never broken down and needed any repairs whatsoever. This Dishwasher has done an excellent job. Now that I am updating my kitchen, I've chosen to go with all GE appliances, including the new GE Profile with SmartDispense technology. I considered switching to another brand, but I just don't want to take the chance. I know how well GE works and the fact that I have never had any problems with it; which I can not say about any other brand. In the past I've had Kenmore ... nothing but problems with every appliance, requiring a live-in repair man. So, I will stick with GE and would recommend the GE Nautilus. ...

My issues were with the racks. They are covered in a rubber. They aren't the stainless steel, but I had to buy a special paint for them. The rubber chipped and the metal rusted. It is so expensive to replace the racks that I'm making due with the paint touchups. The rollers also broke, but my three year old maybe at some fault for that. It was easy to the parts and the rollers were only about 12 dollars....
