BradleyJL says "Affinity Front Load - Drain Problems?" about Frigidaire Washer - Affinity Front Load

After doing some research on a problem with my Affinity Front Load washer that was showing an E23 error (problem with the drain pump or controller circuit), I am seeing that many people are having issues with the draining of the water at the end of the cycle. In my case, a wire from and underwire bra made it's way down to the pump and wedged itself into the impeller, effectively stopping it from spinning. Looking back to the days before this problem, I heard a noise that sounded like a playing card in the bicycle spokes, so it all made sense once I found the culprit.

Unfortunately (for us consumers) there is no easy - straightforward way to get to the pump, especially if you opt to stack the dryer on top of the washer. That would make life easier by far. There is an access hole in the bottom of the washer if you raise it up on blocks, but beware of the sharp edges. Other than that, you need to remove the fromt panel to access the pump. An internet search for a service manual for these models...
...

kstar54 says "THE WORST EVER!!!" about Frigidaire Washer - Affinity Front Load

This is my first front loading machine we bought right after i got married and bought a new house. It is by far the worst washing machine I have ever used in my life. Where do I begin?

1. DOESNT CLEAN - doesnt clean a simple soda stain

2. DOESNT RINSE - i use more soap to try and get more clean, but the soap doesnt rinse out

3. DOESNT USE ENOUGH WATER - stuff sometimes comes out still dry

4. EVERY LOAD TAKES OVER ONE HOUR - it says two minutes and goes for another 20

now it doesnt spin or drain. and is flashing an error code.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE this machine. Worst ever!
...

Glorydays002 says "I'm furious" about Frigidaire Washer - Affinity Front Load

This is the 2nd front loading washing machine I've had and next time, I'm getting a top loader, preferable over 20 years old.

I have the Fridgidaire Affinity, bought almost 4 months ago. It leaks, puts holes in the clothes, smells moldy, socks are missing, and now I have about 10 loads of clothes waiting to be washed and the machine won't go through the final spin. The current load is sitting in a pile of water. I went on line to see if there were any answers from other people about what the problem could be. To my surprise, I found a lot of negative things about it. My last front loader -LG- was just as bad. I used to own an old machine, top loader, that made noice but did the job!

Now, I have to call fridgidaire, get a repair man, and go to a laundry mat. This isn't supposed to happen when you spend $2000 on a brand new washer and dryer. This will be my last fridgidaire. This machine will save you money on washing your clothes since it doesn't work.

I am a full time dad of three children. So I am always busy with cleaning and preparing food and taking care of them. My family just moved into our new house and we had an old washer and dryer that was on its last leg. Imagine using duct tape to close your dryer every load!! So I went to Sears Oulet store and I definetly found a great deal when I found the Fridgidare washer and dryer set. It is energy efficent, it used very little water so it reallyu saves me money considering teh water is going up here. Also I do about two or three loads of laundry a day, and I love the options that the fridgidare washer gives me. If im in a hury I can speed up the wash with a thirty minute cycle. Or if one of my kids gets a grass stain im able to put the setting on stain wash and when teh cycle has completed, wala!!! The stain is gone! I also invested in the 3 year warenty but so far I have not had to call about it or need any sort of repairs to the washer or dryer. I love it!!
...

We bought our washer and dryer set in December of 2007. We have not had any repairs done to our washer. It cleans clothes great. However, within the last 8 minutes of the wash it starts to vibrate a lot. You think an airplane is trying to take off from our laundry room and you definitely can't let anything sit on the machine...it will bounce off. I did notice a slight odor if I don't leave the door open to air dry. It also seems to leave little black marks on the clothes. I wash everything inside out to prevent ruining our clothes. I was so happy to be investing in Energy Efficient appliances. Apparently, you need to spend a little more.
...

smiley7 says "Affinity Front Load~my first front loader ~ love it!" about Frigidaire Washer - Affinity Front Load

The looks and price of the Affinity Front Load washer is what drew my attention. I have wanted a front loader for years but they were out of my budget. I have owned my front loader & matching dryer since Feb 2008. Since this is my first front loader, I read the manual nearly from front to back cover and use many of the suggestions listed - I will list a few here.

I have not had any problems with mold or odor. When I am done washing for the day, I leave the door completely open to 'dry'. The next day, I close it.

I use lingerie bags for small or delicate items. I zip all zippers as recommended. I layer clothes, for example, 3 jeans on bottom, fill with other same color clothing and more jeans on top for a more balanced load during spinning. This seems to work well. I do not 'pack' the washer, but I do fill it.

I have adjusted the spin cycle speed - the manaul tells you how to do that & save your settings- so it does not use the 'cyclone' spin - which causes quite a vibration on the pedestals....
...

In April of 2008 I was a proud owner of the front load Affinity washer. It was SO quiet! It was SO fast! It used SO little water! It took SO little soap! It had NO manual? Hmmm.

In July I was no longer proud. When I contacted Frigidaire about my issue of clothes still being drenched and standing water in the washer I was immediately set up for a repair. I mentioned I had no book. "We can only have one work order per appliance and since you have a work order now for your repair we cannot send you the book until you close out the first work order. Then call in and set up a work order for the manual..." Huh?

That shouldv'e been my BIG YELLOW FLAG! From the repair of the filter clog I was told I used the wrong soap, only he soap he said. That IS what I was using - the bottle was right in front of him - although I had NO MANUAL to tell me anything else.

The next time it stopped working - Septemberish, I used too much soap. Huh? I didn't even go to the lowest...
...

We have had our unit for over a year now. Worked great at first but then noticed it starting to leak around the front door seal and was shooting water out the side of the door during spin cycle. Had a repair man come 3 times and said there is nothing wrong and use less soap. After the last visit i was ****** so I said change the bloody gasket while it is under warranty still. He said after repairing the unit that there were a lot of similar problems with this particular unit. Since gasket was replaced it no longer leaks but wonder if it will have to be replaced again next year. Dont know if we will ever buy another frigidaire again. The repair man was a **** as well.
...

I have a Frigidaire Affinity Washer that is almost 2 years old, It worked well for the first year, than I started having problems with it draining. I read the error code, E20, and looked up the problem, Clogged drain. I took the hose off and cleaned it, found nothing, I then checked the pump, found a rubber check valve on the end, it seemed to be stuck, so I removed it and cleaned it also. That did not work as well. I than removed the rubber check valve and re-hooked up the hose. I ran It through a cycle, and it seems to work now. I will let you know more if another problem arrises. Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps with anyones washer problems. The fix takes about one half hour. Note, The check valve seemed to be the problem, But it may be that the pump is getting weak, and could not open the check valve with the water pressure from the hose. Time will tell in this case.
Thanks, The real Joe The Plumber!...
