brittanieth says "great if its already in good condition" about Ford Focus - 2001

I bought my ford focus from joe machens, for a considerably cheap price. The biggest problem with my 2001 model is that it needs constant repairs and as of right now the alternator went out and it's going to cost me at least $450 to get it replaced and thats not for a brand new alteration, thats for a rebuilt one. A month ago I had to replace my battery and 3 weeks after i got it, my battery kept dying [probably due to my alternator going bad]. Under the hood it is tightly packed with whatever makes a car run, my dad says that this is not usually a good thing due to if you need to replace something and they pay you by the hour, its going to take them a really long time to find where it is and since there is not a whole lot of moving room, it will take longer to fix.

It is a pretty good car. It gets me to and from school, to friends houses, visiting family close by in columbia or visiting my mom and family down in st. louis.

I love my car even though it costs me a lot of money to keep...
...

I've had this car for almost four years and have only had it in the shop a handful of times and only for minor things. It has been a good car and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something affordable, yet comfortable....

This is by far the worst car we have ever owned! From day one we had trouble with it. It ate up the tires, it was extremely noisy on the interstate, it idled very rough, and there was always something wrong with it. Do not buy this car.
...

I adore my Focus! I have the ZX3, and I love its sportiness. It's so much fun to drive, and it rarely has problems. I'm approaching 80000 miles on it now and it's still just as great as when I first bought it. Since mine is the hatchback, it has a ton of space. I had this car throughout college and was able to fit so much stuff in it when I moved back and forth from home to my dorm. ...

I've owned my 2001 Ford Focus SE (Sedan) for three years now and it has been a great car to own. I've been very pleased with it especially for it's reliability and lack of mechanical problems. In the three years that I've owned it, it has rarely been in the shop for anything more than an oil change and to have the fluids topped off.

This car has also been fairly good for gas mileage - averaging around 30 mpg on the highway and 25 in the city. Overall, this is a just a really good car and will be ideal for college students and single parents. I wouldn't recommend it for familes with more than 4 members.

...

jnicolicchia says "Great commuter car." about Ford Focus - 2001

We've had our 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 for 5 years now. The only problem we've ever had was a bad sensor and a minor problem with the starter. Both understandable in a 6yo vehicle. This car is perfect for our daily commute! I keep track of each tank of gas to see what kind of mileage we are getting - we average about 33 mpg, which includes plenty of city driving.

When we had kids, we had to graduate to a bigger vehicle to haul car seats around - they do fit in the back of this two-door hatchback. However, getting the seats/kids in and out is not fun. If you have kids that can get in and buckle themselves, it would be no problem.

It also has a suprising amount of trunk space. My husband, friend, and I, would all go play golf weekly and packed our three good-sized sets of clubs in the back - along with my husbands three-wheel push cart.

I do agree the vehicle has some road noise - I only notice it on the freeway, and after driving cars no newer than the late 1980's, it does not seem......

We bought this car gently used for a decent price. It is 6 years old. However, it does seem to need major/costly repairs more often than I like. We did not expect it to be maintenance free, however we did not expect axle bearing and strut issues so soon after the warranties were expired....
