hudson2001 says "Wanted to love it but only liked it." about Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider

We really wanted to LOVE the Soothing Motions Glider, but ended up only liking it. Why? It eats batteries like they're going out of style. And at 4 D batteries a pop, it gets expensive.

That said, the baby did like it...especially when he was tiny and wouldn't yet nap in his crib or pack-and-play. This glider would put him to sleep almost instantly. But even at only 8 or 9 pounds, it sounded like the motor was straining...and the fast speed was a joke.

A new set of batteries lasted a day for us, at which point the thing would move if you bumped it, or it would move even slower than the hare setting, then start and stop in fits and spurts. New batteries would jazz it up again for awhile...but not nearly long enough.

This would get a definite 4 stars if it was simply able to be plugged in and/or 5 stars if they added a vibration mode and a true fast speed.

If you're going to try this, I recommend Craiglist. We spent about $50 on it and got most of our money back out of it when we resold...
...

I did not think I'd like this at first. But after using it I loved it. The music selections are very appropriate. It was easy to assemble. It was super easy to remove the seat and wash it. The colors are neutral and fit most any theme. Initial assembly was very easy. The directions were very clear and accurate. I like that it could glide front to back or side to side. The only downfall is that it is meant to be on the floor. In a draft house this is not vey safe environment for an infant.
...

ferby03 says "Wonderful for sleeping infant" about Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider

The Fisher Price soothing motions glider is a wonderful thing for a new baby. The seat is deep and it has extra padding and head support- I think it made the baby feel like she was being held or wrapped up. It glides in two directions- front to back or side to side. It also plays music. You can choose from upbeat, playful music or soothing music. It can be set to play softly or louder. It is battery operated but the batteries last a long time in it. It also has a toy bar that hangs over it, but by the time my daughter was interested in using it she was getting to big for it. It fits babies up to 25 pounds. I don't know what we would have done without it, my daughter was a little fussy but this glider put her right to sleep every time. The one con to the glider is that the base is rather heavy making it a little hard to move from room to room- but on the positive side it has carrying handles on both ends of the basket to help with that....

This item was a baby shower gift. At first thought this was going to be a great idea. She hated it. Everytime I would lay her down in it, she would wake up. Soothing....NOT. Not for me or for her. She didn't like laying in it while she was sleep or awake and became too big for it before she was 3months old. This might be a good product for someone else's baby, but mine didn't not like it at all. Packed it up and donated it to a second hand store. Hope someone else gets some use out of it....

I received the Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider with my 2nd child. He liked to be rocked side to side in it and would always fall asleep in it. I keep the glider at my office b/c my baby comes with me. My 3rd child loves this glider. When he was a newborn, I had to bring it home because he refused to sleep anywherelse. I love that the way it glides can be changed. This baby loves to be rocked forward and backwards. The reason I didn't rate it outstanding is 1)it only takes batteries but they do last quite a while and 2)the music could be better....

This seat is a real blessing! My nephew loves it and we really got our money's worth! I like the option of the front to back or side to side movement, the only downside is it really eats up the batteries! I would like to see future models raised a bit, as it sits low to the ground, and I wouldn't recommend using it on a table....

I recieved the glider as a gift for my 2nd daughter -- she is now 2 yrs old. She is more comfortable in this glider than her own crib. It is such a life saver -- this is where she takes a nap, watches her TV shows, and sometimes just relaxes. I would recommend this product to every parent -- it is the best gift I ever received...

I had to have this for my son, but even though it seemed like a great idea in the store, it really didn't do much for my son. It didnt really sooth him like i thought it should, and was way to low to the ground for practical use. wouldnt really recommend it......

I am a busy person and not getting a good nights sleep is not okay. My daughter was born in January. The middle of cold/flu season. I take care of two other children and have 2 of my nieces often. They passed different colds around for months. When it was my daughters turn to get a cold, we were miserable at first. Then, we put the soothing glider next to our bed and it was heaven. She would sleep for hours and straight through the night. She was comfortable and it felt like i was still holding and rocking her. The music it plays was soothing to everyone. All the children would lay down ad take a nap to the music. The batteries seemed to last forever. I know that there is a weight limit on it, but my 2 year old niece would sit and watch DORA the EXPLORER for hours. It was like her own baby recliner.
...

I couldn't have lived with out the product when we first had our daughter home. This was the only thing she would sleep in. If she was fussy we could put her in the glider and it calmed her right down. It is soothing for babies with not a lot of toys on it so they can relax in it. there is two types of music on faster and on slower and there are 2 speeds. You can turn gliders in any direction, it does a 360 so the baby can glide in what ever direction they want to. My daughter now 5 months will still go in it and calm down when she is fussy. We didn't have a bassinet when we came home and am very glad we had this. I have recommend this to many friends and they have all loved it. this is a must have....

Luckily, I was able to get this piece of baby gear used. I would not have paid the $80 price tag for it. It's BORING! For one thing, my husband thought it was only for girls since it was such a bright yellow. LOL And we had our second son this September.

This piece works great as a small cradle although it is low to the ground. It does not bounce. It will only move using batteries, which can be draining on the pocket. It does a back and forth motion and the seat is able to swivel around. So baby can go side to side, angled side to side, back and forth, etc.

The music is annoying and when it get tired, it makes creaking noises.

Needless to say, it's heading to a consignment shop shortly.

...
