Sid Meiers truly outdoes himself/itself/herself/themselves? From Civilization 1 ive been captivated by these games. Its like a big game of risk, but with complete control over several cities, countries, and battalions of troops. The only issue i have with this game is that its extremely addictive and eats time....

kid-kansas says "Build your civilization and see if you can conquer the world!" about Firaxis/2K Games Sid Meier's Civilization IV

Ever since Sid Meir created the first Civilization game I have been hooked on this game. Although the first in the series was small and took very little computer power to play, as it evolved it has taken more computer memory to play. You start by picking the civilization you wish to develop and begin creating your empire.

The Game

You start with a settler and a warrior, the settler creates your first city while the warrior guards the city from the roaming barbarians. You then choose your first upgrade you want to build. Be it technology, religion, military or buildings. Each different choice you make takes a certain amount of turns to come to life. Your first decision should be a worker to build your roads, farms and to mine the minerals scattered throughout the territory. You also choose your government, tax rate and military that you feel will help you conquer the other players.

You also need to create more settlers and workers to help your empire grow and prosper and build your commerce......

Civilization IV represents a HUGE leap forward in the series. With Civilization III, there were some new features, but anyone who had played previous Civ games could pretty much just jump right in and feel comfortable. That's still true with Civilization IV, but there are so many new features that the game is very different from its predecessors.

Civilization IV adds tons of new features and content such as the social engineering found in Alpha Centauri and completely new concepts such as state religion. The game also takes the complex diplomacy that Civ III borrowed from Alpha Centauri and ups it yet another notch, with options to negotiate proposals such as "Stop trading with X" or "Please adopt Y religion or civic." Opposing leaders are influenced in their opinions of you by many factors, including peace, trade relationships, your social engineering choices and state religion, and even other leaders' opinions of you."

There are, of course, also many new technologies, units...
...

Ever since the now-defunct MicroProse Software company released the original version of Sid Meier's Civilization in 1991, I've been hooked on what is perhaps the most popular "god game" franchise in the history of entertainment software. With the exception of CivNet (the first Internet/multi-player variation), Civilization: Call to Action, and 2K Games' Civilization III, I've either owned or played most of the published upgrades to Meier's simulation of world history that challenges players to build an "empire that will stand the test of time."

Basic Concept of the Game: Sid Meier's Civilization IV is, in essence, an open-ended simulation of world history in which you, the player, have to guide a civilization (say, the Aztec Empire) across a 6,000-year-long span of time and have it evolve from a Stone Age level of development to a high-tech Space Age one. Unlike sims based on actual events - such as the Battle of Normandy or Operation Desert Storm, you aren't dealing with pre-determined...
...
