ronzfidelity says "System Down Before GS Earnings. System Down Before AAPL Earning." about Fidelity Investments www.fidelity.com

This is by far the most user-UNfriendly trading platform that I have used. For every single activity that you pursue, a new window opens up; simply placing trade could result in up to 4-5 windows being opened.

BUT the biggest problem is reliability. At least 5 times since I opened this account 6 weeks ago, the system has gone down. The day before Goldman was to release, I waited for over 4 hours to find out if a C shortsale trade had executed. Today (October 19, 2009), their system went down before AAPL earnings and was not available until after they reported.

Another problem is executions. On at least 15 occassions, I have placed BIDS at the current ASK price when Level II reflected over 350k ASK available; on at least 5 of these occassions, I watched for over 5 minutes as ASK at my BID kept executing yet my shares did not go.

My estimate of lost profit for all 5 down times is about $5,000. I am now looking for another broker (I'd like to point out that I spend $2,500...
...

FIAE says "Fidelity reviews cost nothing and are done by a computer. " about Fidelity Investments www.fidelity.com

As one who has provided hundreds of portfolio reviews for customers at Fidelity Investments, my comment is that "You get what you pay for." Fidelity Investments portfolio reviews cost nothing and are computer generated. Though Fidelity representatives can waiver off of the computer generated recommendations, Fidelity compliance requirements and overall management fear of doing anything that could be construed running counter to the "inferred" Fidelity performance requirements, makes Fidelity reviews basically worthless. In recent months, Fidelity has gone on a ruthless campaign of laying off an disproportionate number of their long-tenured (read "higher paid") employees in the name of "saving jobs." Fidelity has basically proven that their shop portfolio reviews and retirement planning can be done by 1) low-paid, low-experience kids in their 20's 2) low-performing reps with 3-6 years of experience and 3) trained chimpanzees. If a Fidelity rep tries to veer away from the shop computer-generated...
...

I got this plan through work when they switched from TIAA-CREFF. This is a horrible plan that I would never voulantarily put money into. They charge you an account maintence fee that is outrageous. If at some point you cease to contribute to the plan they will continue to charge you the fee until the account balance is depleated, which happened to a spouse.Upon moving and updating my address I received the lettering confirming that my address had changed. All was good...until I moved again and find that I haven't been receiving statements for a year because somehow they have the wrong address on file. So, now they have the wrong address, yet they were able to mail me the confirmation letter verifying teh new address. Strange. I had issues with the customer service department directing me to the incorrect paperwork on numerours occassions. It took me calling them four times, contacting the better business bureau, and printing off and filling out every single form available online......

OnlineBrokerReview says "Fidelity is an average broker option" about Fidelity Investments www.fidelity.com

Fidelity is not recommended.

Fidelity has really great research tools. Beyond that, the standard services offer nothing that stacks up well against the top brokers. Active Trader Pro, a desktop application version of the service available to customers making 36 or more trades per year, offers an improved trading experience and charting application. Commissions and fees can be excessive for those that do not qualify for discounts. Margin rates are excessive except for those lucky few with $500,000+ loan balances. Fidelity is by no means a bad service but it falls just short of our recommended list.

401K plans are a popular means to save money for retirement and online access to a retirement plan makes investment management easier than ever before. Customers can access account information, check balances by investment, update personal information, and conduct research for better places to invest money. One of popular 401k mutual fund company is also quickly becoming a popular online brokerage service. The place I am talking about is Fidelity Investments, an investment company and online brokerage service.

Online Brokerage Commentary:

Fidelity Investments is one of the best- known names in financial services and it is a company that has been around for a long time. I first got to know about Fidelity many years ago when I was conducting research on mutual funds. I noticed that this place called Fidelity was consistently ranked among the best performing mutual fund families, but my 401k and other money was tied up in other places and I did not see any pressing need to move my funds to...
...

I opened a new account with Fidelity. On 3 successive days I tried to purchase a municipal bond. Twice, I was told the sale was done, only to be told at the end of the day it did not go through. Never heard of such a thing, especially after having been give a confirmation number for the sale, and assured that it was completed.
If you wish to purchase a bond outside of their inventory, which is limited, go elsewhere.

I like their IRA accounts because there are no annual fees and because I have the ability to make stock trades online. I also like that they have people available that I can call if I need information, but they don't bother me otherwise. The only bad thing I've noticed is that their commissions are higher for trades of more than 1000 shares. It's cheaper to break the trades up into multiple 1000 share trades than to make a single trade of more than 1000 shares....

I was with Fidelity for over 10 years with several account - my IRA, joint account, wife's account, kids' accounts, etc. We have over a $million invested at Fidelity

I recently had an issue with them. Not a biggie dollar wise. Less than $200. I could find no one at Fidelity who could resolve the situation. Even the local branch manager said she could not find anyone.

I placed calls, sent faxes, sent emails to the executive office (normally companies have staff members who quickly respond to issues raised at the executive level) and no response - zero, nada, not even a call.

So I began the process of moving all these accounts to Schwab. I like the web interface better, more resources available, and they are a public company.

If Fidelity does not care about a $million group of accounts, and they are too big to respond to a customer problem - then buyer beware folks. I would avoid them like the plague.

Good news is my biggest account will be moved to Schwab in less than a week. The other accounts......

We have been with E-Trade, Charles Schwab, Muriel Sebert (sp) and all have taken us for a ride with fees for nothing. We trade outselves, we have money market accounts which should be paying moe than any bank can.

I got a Mystery Shop to contact Fidelity Investments regarding a Money Market account that is now my current premium checking account and making 3% interest. I was talked to very nicely, very knowledgeable people who do not put you down to questions. They have all the time you need of them. I gave them high marks, then learned my husband has his 203B funds from 20 years at work with them after the marketing of his money by the university to various funds. He was very pleased with their work, calls when necessary but no selling stuff.

So we moved our stocks, money market, everything we had with E-Trade who had just bought the Boston firm we were with (CNGB) and we wanted nothing to do with them every again. Fidelity transferred everythingg at no fees to us. Our Money...
...

I love Fidelity because you can consolidate all your retirement accounts together. It's easy and intuitive how to use the website. There is online customer support via instant messaging so you don't have to sit on a phone waiting to talk to somebody.

The research tools are great when trying to find stats on a mutual fund or stock. The site also has a feature called Full View. This allows you to register all sorts of accounts (other brokerage accounts, bank accounts, credit card companies, frequent flier / hotel accounts, email, etc.) so all account balances can be centralized. It can be refreshed to allow you single point access to all your financial information in one spot.

The reporting / history functions for your accounts is also great. You can get up to the day balance info and returns, and you can search the history to see recent transactions.
...

I'm rich! I'm rich!

Oh dear. I'm not at all rich. But we did sell our overpriced home in California last year, and we wondered what to do with the tidy profit. Before we got carried away, we had to figure out logistics: i.e., where to stash the dough.

One of my brothers, a former Wall Street portfolio manager, recommended Fidelity as an alternative to a regular bank. What's the difference?

Well, with a regular bank, the presumption is that you're going to spend your money. You open a checking account, get a credit card or even a mortgage, and start pissing it away, whether you have a plan for paying it back or not. So you get treated like Deadbeat #1 straight from the get-go.

With a brokerage, you're investing, and like most investors, you'll lose some but steadily gain a lot. Most people invest conservatively over a lifetime in a pension or college fund, and the brokerages make money off fees and commissions, so it's win-win all around.

You get treated like you're personally making their...
...
