alexsammons says "Always consider everything when choosing an insurer" about Farmers Insurance

I have had auto and home insurance with Farmers for three years. You don't need insurance until you need it. And when that time came, I was a bit disappointed. Most companies offer replacement value - Farmers offers depreciation value. When my vehicle was broken into in my driveway and my professional photo gear and notebook have been stolen, Farmers estimated the depreciated value to be less than half of the cost to buy the same equipment used on eBay. Price of my top of the line notebook was estimated to be $250.

On top of that, they were making me pay $8 per month in "draft fees", to cover automated bank drafting on my monthly premium payments. Structure of payments has been very strange and I never took the time to really break it all down - too complicated.

I switched to Nationwide insurance for all vehicles and home. They provided replacement cost, not depreciated cost. In addition to a much lower deductible on comprehensive and collision, I will also gain annual...
...

CynthiaAnnJones says "Local service with excellent benefits. Quick personal responses." about Farmers Insurance

Farmer's Insurance has been extremely helpful to my family. Our local agent is always quick to respond and looking for ways to save us money.

We own a home, and insure it and our vehicle through Farmer's. They have also handled an accident claim, so we have seen their methods and response times personally. Even though the other driver was at fault and uninsured, Famer's still paid the damages, quickly and with an estimate from our own choice of garage.

All in all, our experience with Farmer's has been efficient, thrifty, and pleasant. We plan to stay with them permanently, because you never get shifted from one corporate hotline to another, but are always served politely, and feel that your agent is still working to save you money even when you aren't directly in touch. Also, the statements are timely and they work with us to structure everything in the easiest possible way. We have received several discounts which are faithfully reflected in our policy.
...

redjen says "A great company or a great front?" about Farmers Insurance

I worked for this company for seven years and though I must say the majority of the time it was a great company until I started seeing how they treat their customers. I was there when they were turning down Katrina survivors and not helping due to the water damage and although I undestand that you must have flood insurance, the household insurance should have covered the house and items within, but due to the water damage, it was not.
There have been other times and disasters that I have witnessed where the company just skimped on paying out and these poor people had been paying this company for years and years and been faithful to the company, regardless of price hikes.
Why, after so many years of coverage, does a company do this to someone?...

I recently experienced the one thing that until it has happened to you, there is no way of knowing how I would feel. After living in my home for the last 16 years, I recently came home after a evening out to find my home had been burglarized I was angry, anxious to find out what had happened while I was out for 3 hours. I couldn't believe that a burglar had been in my home very recently and what all had they been doing. I found the place where they had gotten into my house and that when i started to notice various items had been taken. After contacting the police department they sent an officer out the next day. I had never had to file this type of report sand i was told by the officer how to go about listing items that were missing and to notify my insurance company. I contacted Farmers insurance and my agent got back to me within 1 day. After being told that I was not sure how to go about with an insurance claim the agent explained how the process worked. He told me a basic time line...
...

TuffeysGirl says "Too bad Farmers' rates are not as friendly as their agents" about Farmers Insurance

After having been customers of Farmers insurance for nearly 3 years, my husband and I have decided to switch.

Our agents, Erik and Kristen Granroth, are very friendly and seem to genuinely care about us as people. Honestly, I wish they were affiliated with other insurance companies so we could just switch companies but keep our nice agents.

Our issue with Farmers is their rate increases. Every 6 months when we get our offer of policy renewal, the rate has risen $7-$30 per month. We have never made an insurance claim with Farmers and the only thing that has changed in the past 3 years is residential location. We bought our first home one year ago, but since then no changes to anything on our insurance policies.

Since we have never made a claim with Farmers I cannot accurately rate their claim service. Hopefully it is better than their policy pricing "service".

When asked why the rates keep going up, our agents do not have a definitive answer. The only reason we can get...
...

jimmeso1 says "Cheated me out of an honest claim" about Farmers Insurance

I am switching from Farmers for one reason only and to me it is more than enough reason to do so. I will first say that our agent is outstanding and he did all he could do to rectify the situation (we're told). Basically, our underfloor radiant heating system in our ski condo blew a valve and flooded our downstairs with water and gelco. Fortunately, the room had a drain and most of the liquid went down the drain. But...the gelco sprayed all over the room and heating elements, heated up and stunk the high heaven. My renters showed up to this and we had to find them a replacement rental at the last minute which was very expensive not to mention we lost our rent. I spent 4 days cleaning up the mess, hiring a repair man, and did all I could do to not be waste-full. So... Farmers argues that this valve is like a "refridgerator" and working parts just fail. We "should have had it serviced" prior to this happening. Well, we did have it serviced that summer and had the plumbing company verify this....
...

rat667 says "homewowner" about Farmers Insurance

The Farmers insurance company sells homeowners insurance and as well as other types of insurance like auto and life policies. A lot of companies and individuals have homeowners insurance policies with Farmers insurance. They have discounts for drivers training, burglar protection, home policy, auto, and claims free.

The Farmers insurance company is a well established insurance company which has been around for a long time. I recommend Farmers insurance since they provide reasonable rates and good customer service. One can contact them via the internet or phone or mail or in person at the agents office.

The Farmers insurance company does business worldwide and has numerous locations in every major city or town in the United States.

The Farmers insurance company offers different deductible ranges for the homeowners policies and will offer good rates compared to other insurance companies. Farmers insurance will send your policy documents which you return with the initial premium payment.......

After being a low-risk customer of Farmers for over a decade with homeowners and auto insurance and NEVER filing a claim, my vehicle was struck in a parking lot last week. I obtained the other driver's insurance info (USAA), obtained an estimate to repair the damages, and called my local Farmers office to ask what to do. They provided me incorrect information regarding my deductible and said I should file a claim with Farmers Helpoint. So, I called Helpoint, and proceeded to be told that the deductible would actually be much higher and not fall into uninsured motorist or comprehensive, despite being told this by my agent. Farmers then 3rd party called my agent, interrogated me, were rude, demanded I provide them with a tape recorded statement agreeing they would not extend the lower deductible I was told, and treated me like a criminal. They refused to help or extend the lower deductible I was told.

Furthermore, Farmers then proceeded to assign 2 separate adjustors to my claim...
...
