I recently booked a flight through Expedia, and when I checked my itinerary the next day, the flight didn't show up. When I called customer service to inquire about the reservation, I was told it had never been made. Since this was work travel, I booked a flight through our travel service.

Six days later, I received an email confirming my flight. When I called Expedia to tell them this was a mistake, that I had been told the flight didn't go through, they said I had to pay a $150 cancellation fee, and could not be reimbursed for the flight. I have up to a year to complete the flight, but will pay the $150 fee at that time. What a rip-off, and all due tho their computer glitch!!!

I admit, whenever I am planning to travel there are two sites I visit first, Expedia and Continental. I like Continental because they have non stop flights from Houston to Dayton, where my family lives. Expedia helps me get started on traveling to my final travel destination by giving me airfares, car rentals, cruise prices, hotel prices, and even amusements in the area. I admit I don't buy the amusements, but they are great for ideas.

What I like about Expedia:

easy to use no matter what type of travel help you need
saves my searches so I can easily visit again
allows me to quickly and easily switch to other local airports
competitive pricing
good customer service

What I don't like about Expedia:

Ok, I admit this is silly but I don't really like the site, I think it's unattractive
they tempt me with all these "coupons" but I never get to use any of them

I am someone who uses online travel search engines everyday for personal and professional use. It continually frustrates me that expedia has not updated their website. I think they have a lot to offer, but unfortunately appear to have fallen behind with the times. The best websites out there use grids which make it easier to see what the best price is. Expedia's model requires you to work through tabs and scroll down a long page to try to find the best price. Because they get kick backs from some companies they put them on the first tab that customers come to so sometimes if a customers doesn't realize there are multiple pages they think they are getting the best price, but really are only getting the best price for that page. I have personally seen better deals for the same trip/car/flight from the same company at other sites when I was searching. I don't think they realize they are not the cheapest, but who would with their layout. Because I'm a busy person I want a quick efficient......

I travelled to Las Vegas, NV, during August 2009. I got my flight and a three day stay in the Circus Circus Hotel for less than $500.00. It was a great buy and also received efficient and friendly service.

I booked my trip to Ireland 4 months in advance using Expedia. This included a car rental in Dublin with a company called 'Payless'. Because we booked early, we got a good rate. Apparently too good, because when we got to Dublin, we couldn't find a 'Payless' counter anywhere. We spoke with several airport employees who said that there was no company called Payless in the airport. Turns out that it was under a different name (doing business as Dooley Car Rentals). Nowhere on the Expedia printed itinerary was this listed, nor was it in the itinerary you can have e-mailed to you. The U.S. number listed on the itinerary was not helpful either due to the time zone change (voicemail). We had no choice but to rent a car for 5 times the amount at another rental counter. When we got back to the states, my husband called Expedia to explain our situation. After over an hour on the phone, we were of course told that it was our fault, because way at the bottom of the booking page on Expedia...

Expedia quoted one price and then charged my credit card a hundreds of dollars more for my vacation package. I contacted their customer service department in the Phillipines to only be given the run around and finally told they could not help me. They are a SCAM. Do not use EXPEDIA. Save yourself the headache. If you need to write them or call them they can be reached at 3150 139th Ave SE, Bellevue, WA. phone 425-679-3564. If you ask they won't give you the information.

Vacation Rental by owner or VRBO is an exciting tool to use for those travelers wanting more living space when they are away from home. In many occasions places found through this website are more inexpensive than well-known hotels.

I have used VRBO in many occasions with great satisfaction. It is perfect for my family of 5 since we normally have to stay in two hotel rooms because we have teenagers. Now I just find a condo that fits my family comfortably for less money than two hotel rooms. Last month my family and I stayed in Paris for 10 nights and I used VRBO to get an apartment in a great location. Staying in a hotel would have been very expensive and would not have allowed me to save money by cooking some meals at the apartment.

VRBO is easy to navigate. In most cases, you deal directly with the owner, "cutting the middle man" and saving money. If you are not dealing with a management company, you may even ask the owner for his/her best rate-many are willing to "bargain" with...

I once frequently used Expedia. After the experience I had tonight my only involvement with them will be to raise public awareness of their gross incompetence and greed. I booked a flight and hotel with them for my mother and I to attend my father's memorial. My mother has now fallen ill and can't make it. I called Expedia and after 25-minute hold I speak with representative who tells me I can get credit on the flight for my Mother but Delta will charge us $150 for the cancellation - real humanitarians! I ask him to send me an email record of this. He puts me on hold and 11 minutes later he hangs up. I never get an email. I call back and wait another 22 minutes to speak with representative. This time she tells me there is no refund, no credit, nothing. According to her, "I bought a package and a package cannot be divided." Of course! I asked given the circumstances if there is anything Expedia can do. She said no. I asked her to send me an email to confirm in order to...

Expedia.com was an absolute nightmare. We ended up paying for two flights because Expedia wouldn't cover the first one. Then two weeks before our vacation I called the hotel just to confirm our reservation and they had no record of it! Expedia said they wer very sorry and would give us a refund. The call center is somewhere in India and you can't understand a word they are saying, nor they you. Absolutely horrendous experience. Spend your money somewhere else.

Expedia.com is a disappointment when I booked from this site and it is said there that it is refundable kind of plane ticket. As a matter of fact I confirmed it also by calling them that if this one planned travel be cancel , I could get my money abut 95% of it . But there an incidence my hubby got sick and we're not be able to travel and I cancelled both tickets ahead of time then they told me I'll be getting most of my money back then wait for few week it showed up it was credited on my credit card that I used unfortunately out of US$1960 spent on bought tickets supposed I'll be getting US$ 1780 plus but I got credited only US$ 400 bucks , and I called so many times and keep telling me i'll be recieving the rest soon , but i'm calling back and forth until now it's been three years nothing happen , guess I learned in hardway ,never again on this company.

I booked hotel twice using this site, Second time I found their price is more expensive than I book directly on hotel's web site. $250 on Expedia, $176 on hotel's own web site for the exactly same room. I spent $25 cancellations fee for nothing.

So I wondered how good deal was previous booking, I found hotel's own web site was offering free ferry ride to Victoria, BC which cost $90 and I didn't get anything from Expedia for the almost same price.

If you find the hotel you want to stay, check hotel's own web site before you book through Expedia. You might find better deal or package.

Recently, my boyfriend and I booked a trip to Jamaica through Expedia.com. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Gustav, we had to change our itinerary at the last minute (the day before we were scheduled to leave). After 8 long hours talking to Expedia representatives on the phone, my boyfriend and I decided to change our itinerary to going to Los Cabos, Mexico. I spent several hours on the phone with a rep trying to change our itinerary last minute. I was informed that the hotel in Cabo was $418 more than the hotel in Jamaica. We also had to change our Continental flights. The rep informed me that the new flights and old flights were the same price, so we did not have to pay any extra money for the flights. We also were informed that we would be receiving a $300 refund for cancellation fees (we had the full insurance package). So, all in all, we would be paying $118 more for the trip to Cabo. This past Wednesday, my boyfriend came across something VERY unsettling.......
