      <description>Before I had my baby, I heard some nurse friends discussing this thermometer and thought it sounded like a good idea, so I added it to my registry.&#160; We did not receive it as a gift, but when I was in the hospital after giving birth, all the staff there used these types of thermometers.&#160; Now that my husband and I had seen them in action, we knew we needed to break down and get one, too.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;I'm so glad we did!&#160; Before ours arrived in the mail, I tried to take Baby Girl's temperature once or twice with your typical digital thermometer and was afraid I wasn't holding it in the right place and she kept wiggling - it felt like it took &lt;em&gt;forever&lt;/em&gt; to beep, indicating her temperature was done.&#160; And since I wasn't sure if it was accurate, I had to perform the process all over again just to check!&#160; It was enough to make me not want to check her temperature unless I thought she was on death's threshold!&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Now, however, I can take her temperature any time I have the slightest inkling that she maybe, possibly,...... </description>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have used a LOT of different thermometers in a household with three daughters who used to have frequent sinus infections and a husband who really likes data, if you know what I mean.&#160;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Comparing Different Types of Thermometers:&#160;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Rectal temperatures are the most accurate, but they involve quite a bit of effort, particularly if I am checking high fevers frequently, which is what we did this past February/March when the flu wreaked havoc in our house. Older rectal thermometers in the home may contain mercury, which is no longer recommended due to safety reasons.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Axillary temperatures are easier, but sometimes it is difficult to keep a little one entertained while holding a thermometer under her arm for what seems like an eternity, and axillary thermometers are not particularly accurate.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Tympanic (ear) thermometers tend to have problems with accuracy. We had a tympanic thermometer that tended to have technical difficulties more often than not, and it had probe covers that were supposed to be...&lt;/p&gt;... </description>
