<p>The decision of euthanasia is never an easy decision. When we open our door and welcome them into our homes and except them as a family member, the decision to let them go is no different than making that choice for our human family member. They find their way into our hearts with little effort. They provide comfort to us when we are feeling down and provide laughter to us when we don't expect it. To say this decision would be easy, is far from the truth.</p>&#13;
<p>Like our family members, we don't want to see them suffer. We take them to the vet and try everything in our power to make them better. We spend hundreds of dollars trying. Something that we would do for our human family member. The difference here is that We have the choice to end their pain. We can say enough is enough. No more suffering. That choice, as hard as it is, is the most humane decision of choice we have left. Unfortunately, we can only do it to an animal.</p>&#13;
<p>As a side note, there are vets that will do this at your home, in...</p>...

<p>I believe that part of being a responsible pet owner means that you will eventually have to make the very difficult decision to end your pet's life. I have two adorable dogs that bring so much happiness to my life that I could never let them suffer because I don't want to let them go. A few months ago I had to have my sweet yorkie euthanized. He was very special to me and had been there through some very difficult times in my life. I had to make the decision to have him euthanized. It was without a doubt the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It was also the right thing to do. I have a great vet that tried very hard to make him better. Nothing seemed to work. The saddest part is that he spent the last few days of his life in the hospital. I would make the same decision if I had to do it again. On a more positive note I adopted a new dog from the humane society and she is the perfect addition to my family.</p>...

I have had many, many pets over my 30 years of life. Whether the life span of the pet is long or short, deciding to have to euthanize a pet is always one of the hardest decisions to make. I strongly believe there are numerous animal hospitals that put the pet as #1 priority. I have worked at one, and gone to one other. I feel as though a vet needs to tell an owner exactly what is going to happen, and to make sure the owners can be in the room. I cannot believe some places will not allow that! Some vet offices also use a calming drug before they start the euthaniasia, which makes it alot more comfortable for the animals. When I look for Vets, I always ask numerous questions before I make an appointment, even just for vaccines. I always ask about the euthanasia policies. Cost, Cremation, Where they cremate. Some places even have a pet burial ground. Many people are against euthanasia, says it is cruelty to animals, but is it not more cruel to make an animal suffer in pain and discomfort just......

This is one subject I have thought about quite a bit lately. I am probably more attached to my chihuahua than most people.He IS really like a child to me.My life revolves around him.I plan my days with him in mind.I owe thousands of dollars due to high vet prices.He suddenly started having seizures almost 2 years ago and didn't know why.He has to visit the vet every 6 months to monitor his phenobarbital level and sometimes have to visit more often due to another problem coming up.Last year I had to take him in to have his teeth removed due to a dental disease.That procedure alone was almost $1000.Thats not much money to "rich" prople but for me, living day to day, its a lot.But, no matter what the cost of vet care, its NEVER too much to pay for my baby(chihuahua).He is getting old and with all of his health problems and pain, I know I will end up having to "put him to sleep." But, how can I do that when I love him so much. It would be like telling someone to go ahead and kill your child.I......

I had kitties that were poisoned with antifreeze. I came home to find my kitties couldn't walk. Every time they tried to walk, their legs would flail out and they'ld land on their belly. They also puked up a white foamy substance. After taking to the vet, it was found they had gotten antifreeze poisoning. It became a waiting game. Their kidneys would inevitably shut down and cause their death. We did try to give Lasix thru an IV to flush the antifreeze out. It just didn't work so after two of my kitties died at the vet, I took the others home. I thought the remaining kitties were fine because they hadn't shown signs. But, they must not have gotten as much antifreeze because they all began showing signs that they had poisoning, too. One by one, I watched my babies die. The first to die in my home cried continuously from all the pain. After watching her suffer, I asked the vet for some pain medication to ease the pain of death for the others. One of my older cats......

mr090672 says "Vet's trying to play god with your pet ending up killing you." about Euthanasia of a Beloved Pet

I believe Vet's are trying to play god with our beloved animals and companions. Herein lies the problem. I believe you should do what you can to help you pets acheive a healthy and happy life, but when the costs are getting so high you can't buy food for it then it has gone too far. An awesome vet told me one time that you have to unfortunately think of having a pet as a business. This means that you have to look at the bottom line is whatever procedure goiing to fix my pet without diminishing its quality of life or is this going to fix it for the time being and then you have additional surgeries or procedures involved. This is something that is wrong with the Vet community in trying to do more than the animal needs when unfortunatey they should just be put to sleep. I hate to be the one that is tough as nails, but this is true....

why do we have to pay extremely high prices to put our beloved pet of 5 to 15 or more to sleep. we shouldnt have to pay to put our friends to sleep. vets should have more sympathy for us. Just charge us for the shot. Our pets their ready to go. If we do it, right away we're cruel and inhuman. An to think I wanted to be a vet. It's bad enough we have to pay extremely high prices just to sit in the waiting room. Some of us our on a very strict income. thank you I needed that...

It was late afternoon when I took a break from digging the hole that would soon be my cat's final resting place. The setting was right out of an Edgar Allen Poe story - a snow-covered, cloudy, foggy, drizzly cold February twilight in my backyard. There was an eerie silence, broken only by the sound of my shovel chipping away at the half-frozen ground. I don't know where I found either the emotional or physical strength to dig my cat's grave. I just knew that her intense suffering needed to end, and that the hole needed to be dug before more cold and snow set in the next day. So, I found myself alone in the backyard, chipping away at the rock-hard earth while my cat lay suffering in the warmth of our home. <p>Two years ago, we adopted a 2 year-old cat from a local pet shelter and named her Naima (<strong>NY-EE-MAH</strong>). It was the first pet that I had ever had as an adult, so it was a new experience for me. We thought a cat would keep me company during the day, and would be comforting to...</p>...
