Erie Insurance is great, just don't ever, ever get in an accident if they are your insurer. If you do, they will fight you tooth and nail over the claim and then will take an obscene amount of time processing your claim. It will take at least a week for an adjustor to look at the car, and after that the process will move even more slowly. They will assign you a percentage of liability for the accident, even if the accident report from the state trooper states that the other person is 100 percent at fault. Even after the whole thing is said and done it will be another week or two before you actually get your check in the mail, so just make sure you have transportation lined up for all that time that you are waiting to get the money they rightfully owe you. Customer service on the phone is great, but they are really just pulling the wool over your eyes. No matter how friendly they are to you, I'm telling you they will look for any way to screw you over in the end.

When I first started driving I was put on my parent's insurance and of course the premium went sky high! I didn't realize how high insurance was until I got married and had to start paying it on my own. My husband and I started with State Farm insurance and at first it was the cheapest, but the coverage was not real good. We had to pay out more than we expected. When we moved back to WV, our insurance went up so we decided to start looking for a cheaper insurance and in the process try to get better coverage. We compared prices with several companies and found that Erie was the cheapest and had the better policy for our needs. Not only that but it allowed us to pay our whole year's premium in 9 months, which means we don't have to pay a premium for 3 months. Since having Erie, I have not been very good with money and have not paid on time due to not having enough money to pay the insurance. Two months after I lost my job, our basement backed up with sewage. At the time, I thought that Erie did a good job covering the loss (we had a sewage rider). I was able to find a job later in a different state.

In late March/early April, I received a renewal notice that showed our rate going from $578 to over $900 dollars.

Apparently, they were upset that I filed a claim with them and intended on penalizing me for it. On April 28, with us being in Texas and the house not selling, I contacted Erie (through the Ridge Agency) to see if I could reduce anything to save us money. I was shocked when the agent informed me that after talking with his people, my policy was to be cancelled as of May 1 because we were now living in Texas. He could sell me a different policy, but it would run over $5000, and I had to make the decision quickly because I would have no coverage for the house in a few days. I specifically asked him the question "So as of May 1, I have no insurance?" He responded, "Correct,...

I switched to Erie a year ago and am very very pleased.... Was with Liberty Mutual for years. Was paying out the yingyang even though was getting a discount for having homeowners and car insurance with them. Was in an accident where I was stopped at a red light and got ran into due to slippery wet road. I was not at fault at all, and instead of "NATIONWIDE IS ON YOUR SIDE" helping their customer, they didnt help me at all. I had to set up my own car rental because they didnt have their computers link up with my info, the car rental place charged my credit card because Nationwide never paid them, their adjuster didnt want to pay for the replacement of our truck box EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE SUBMITTING THE BILL TO A DIFFERENT COMPANY, totally crazy. We left a week later. DO NOT USE NATIONWIDE. Erie was 400.00 cheaper between homeowners and car insurance and the people at my local office are great....
