needacuppajoe says "NEVER EVER buy this printer!" about Epson Artisan 800

The Epson Artisan 800 was sold as the best printer since the handheld calculator - print quality, picture quality, wireless capability, flatbed scanner..... Sounds too good to be true? Well it is.

Reality rears its ugly head: the printer ROARS through ink - and I'm talking ridiculous amounts of ink. The picture quality is fair, but only if you use Epson papers. Kodak papers print out a grainy browish mess.

Epson is unapologetic. They have replaced my printer twice now (with refurbished units.......yes, I'm on number 3 now), and still claim I'm doing something wrong. They instructed me to take the printer off of 'auto-maintenance' to save ink, but this did not cure the problem. Eight pages, and the ink is out! I can't afford to buy enough ink for this printer! Oh, and this one will use up your color ink cartridges if it runs out of black ink, unless you go in and turn this feature off, too. And, it will not recognize anything but Epson ink cartridges.

I went back to...
...

LibrarianJess says "The Artisan 800 sucks up ink but produces great results." about Epson Artisan 800

I am so glad that I chose to upgrade to this printer despite its few drawbacks. It was a little expensive and then there's an extra charge for the double sided printer attachment, but the results are spectacular. It prints quickly and the quality is really good whether it's on paper or photos. The top opens for an automatic document feeder which makes coping a snap. There's a touch screen on the front that lets easily you select options. It's easy to read and in color.

The HD photo printing capabilities are amazing. The photos are dry almost immediately and look better than those from the photo lab. But they use tons of ink! You don't want to print all your photos at home because you'd never be able to afford it.

The ink is expensive. Because it runs off of multiple cartridges it is about $70 each time I replace them all and I usually do it every two to three months.

My biggest complaint is that the plastic construction is flimsy, especially when it comes to the paper...
...

pharp008 says "The Artisan 800 printer does it all - and well." about Epson Artisan 800

I got the Epson Artisan 800 to start scanning my old photos and have a better color printer for my digital photos. I got a fax and copier as a bonus! It was easy to set up (after purchasing the required USB printer cable) and start using with my new iMAC. Since I am new to the MAC, I was worried about compatibility, but it was not a problem. The printer is a bit larger than I expected, but it is more compact than the older version. The Artisan 800 has it all - slots for SD/MS/xD as well as a CD tray. The printer is a bit loud, but since it is quick, this doesn't matter much. And the paper tray doesn't hold much. I recommend the Artisan 800 for all printing and scanning needs. I have only sent one fax so I cannot comment on this except to confirm that it went to where I faxed it! The control panel is clear and easy to use and it is a touch screen that works. The ink comes separate so when I have to refill them or change them I can buy individual colors instead of one with...
...

Reekoh says "Bulky but very high quality" about Epson Artisan 800

The Epson Artisan 800 is a great printer. Of all the printers I've had, this is definately the best one by far. The quality and speed of the printer is extremely good, and it prints/scans fast. What's great is that it is also a wireless device, so the laptops of my house can access it too. It has a card reader for direct printing and is able to be used as a faxing device as well.

I like how the tray is able to be pushed in or pulled out, and how the paper loader is also on the inside of the machine. It keeps the paper from getting wrinkled or used up in school projects because it's out there in plain sight.

Another great feature is that it has a touch screen. So it's really easy to change things on the printer as well.

One thing I'm not sure about is how fast the ink runs out. It seems to last a moderate amount of time; we aren't major printers here at our house, but we do have papers, invitations to birthdays, maps etc to print out. Our ink lasted about 5 months...
...

caspersparks says "Except for the cheap plastic construction, we like it so far" about Epson Artisan 800

We purchased the Epson Artisan 800 photo printer about three weeks ago. So far, it is working very well. We like the quality of print but do not expect the printer it's self to last very long. The inexpensive plastic paper bin may lend it's self to breaking if not carefully handled. ( This is not a good thing when you have 3 children in the home who may not be as careful as an adult. But this remains to be seen... ) Another con for the paper tray would be the way we have to feed the paper when printing postage, it's a bit more complicated and takes some getting used to unlike the top feed on the Epson700RX.

We replaced the Epson 700RX which was a more substantial machine but became very difficult to find ink out side of special ordering from Epson company.

We are able to purchase inks at local outlets for the Epson Artisan 800 photo printer. The quality of print is excellent and we noticed the print time is faster as well. We print alot of single page black and white as well as a few...
...
