Probably the best of all the Star Wars movies, The Empire Strikes Back stands as one of the finest cinematic moments in history. Special effects not withstanding, the emotional impact really drives home this quest everyone goes on to discover their identity; the challenges we all face, the discoveries, and finding out certain things we don't like at all. The original 1980 movie poster hinted at thhe romance of Han Solo and Princess Leia with a very Gone With The Wind pose. Opening on an ice planet, the settings seem to tie right into the emotions of the characters. Princess Leia is cold toward Han. Later, her emotions are more scattered while they hide in the asteroid field. Luke, on the mysterious swamp planet encounters and learns about the mysterious. Cold and uncaring is the industrial set where Luke has a showdown with Darth Vader. Truely wonderous cinematic moment s aren't lost in this movie. In this episode, Yoda goes to Jedi heaven. The scene between Skywalker and Yoda, with him in last moments before cardiac arrest is very powerful. It says that there IS life even after death. As a matter of fact, Yoda can appear at will and talk to those mere mortals. I'm sure that he gave the rebellion far more information about the empire than we see. I think All of the Star War movies are great, and i love the way George Lucas releasted them. Especialy the way he went back to the beginning to show the aduiance what happened to Luck's father. Then on to how "Luke I am Your Father" came about. It is just a great way for George to tell his story and I love it....

Absolutely an outstanding movie, Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back is filled with so many moments that make this movie an instant classic. If you are going to see/own only one of the Star Wars episodes, do yourself a favor and make it SW:ESB. With Lucas's script and Kershner's directing, this movie stands out. The first SW movie just sets this masterpiece up, and SW:ESB delivers an outstanding interlude between "A New Hope" and "Return of the Jedi"....

This is the best star wars movie. It is soo realistic. I love how it ends on a series of down notes. Its not feel good and happy like the 4th episode. I also love watching the look of pain and suffering on lukes face! And who could forget the imperial march! the music truely made this series! I also love the kiss between han and leia- so romantic!...

It was always all about Luke Skywalker for me. He is what got me into these series of movies in the first place. The new ones are cool, too, but nothing beats the first original trilogy. This gets five stars from me for sure!!!!!!!!!!! I can not imagine it getting anything less than that rating by anyone....

This is one of the better Star Wars movies out there. I enjoyed this movie a lot more than Star Wars IV: A New Hope. More action and more intrigue leaves me waiting for episode VI. (Which is also good by the way.)...

This is "Thee" Star Wars film. It has comedy, romance, suprising plot twists, and this film also re-establishes old favorite characters as well as introducing new fan favorites.

No other Star Wars film did as much to develop character relationships and move the story as Empire did. Empire follows the exploits of our heroes Luke, Han, and Leia, as well as the sinister Darth Vader. We are introduced to the exciting characters Yoda, Lando Calrissian, and Boba Fett which also sets up our encounter with Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi.

Written by George Lucas, screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Leigh Brackett, and Directed by Irvin Kurshner, along with all new music by John Williams, this film is considered by most to be the best film of the series.

Those of you who have seen it may already agree. Those of you who are soon to see it will soon agree.

Although George Lucas had written a long and detailed "treatment" for Star Wars that contained the bare outline for the Classic Trilogy's story arc, he pared the first third of it and turned it into the screenplay for the film he'd later re-name Episode IV: A New Hope - tacking on the Death Star sequence he'd originally planned for the finale and hoped filmgoers would enjoy it enough so he could do the other two thirds.

But when Star Wars performed better at the box office than its creator had imagined, Lucas began to work on a more detailed story outline and hired sci-fi novelist Leigh Brackett to write a screenplay for the second film of the trilogy. And although he didn't go with Brackett's take on the characters and situations, Lucas gave the terminally-ill author a co-writer credit even after hiring Lawrence Kasdan to revise the screenplay for what was now titled Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

Kasdan and Lucas didn't want Empire to be a typical Hollywood sequel in which the first......

love this movie i saw it when it was origanlly in theaters the first time it was in theater, can belive they ended the star wars saga, hope they start a show following young anakin from episode one up to the time he was the age in the second movie, great effects even back then , and still today is one of the best films ever...

The Case

Okay, we're all familiar with the legendary, and sometimes infamous, Star Wars films. We've all seen the movies - and if you haven't, I demand you stop reading and go watch them NOW! - we've all heard the quotes, we've all used the phrase "May the Force be with you." Wait - doesn't everyone use that phrase in everyday conversation...?

Uh, anyway, what I'd like to do here is rank the six SW movies in order from "The Best Flick of all Time That Makes Me Weep With Joy Every Time I Watch It" to "Oh My God, What The Heck Is This Abominable Monstrosity of a Thing and Why Does It Have The Name 'Star Wars' Attached To It?!" For simplicity's sake, I'll refer to my ranking system on a numerical scale for the rest of this review.

Star Wars Episode 5 was the second installment of the Star Wars (1977) franchise.

The characters were better written and acted, the story had more meat to it and the special effects were the very finest in the land at the time.

It was structured even more like an old time Saturday Afternoon Western Serial than the first one was , but wasn't quite as utterly juvenile.

And it introduced us to Yoda, while keeping the best parts of the first one and adding other new elements to the mix--none of them going over board in the cute department.

If only Lucas and Kershner got along better so that Kershner could have continued directing future Star Was films.
