outshopping7 says "Avoid this place!" about Egea - - Evanston, IL

I have been to EGEA Spa a couple of times over the last couple of years because I kept receiving gift certificates from friends and colleagues. The first year they were open their service was very good and attentive, but it's all gone downhill from there.

They have ever-changing front desk staff because no one wants to work there for more than a couple of months, and as result customer service suffers. I have to say that any other spa/massage salon I have been to has been better than this place!

Their customer service is poor. The massage rooms minuscule. The staff are miserable, and there is no "waiting area" for men. I would highly recommend against going to EGEA for any spa treatments. I know some people who have been "loyal" customers just because the location is so convenient, but afterwards they always have some negative/outrageous anecdote to tell. Bottom line: Avoid this place at all costs!
...

Lorreanne says "Dishonest Business Practices" about Egea - - Evanston, IL

I received a gift certificate for Egea in Evanston. It was my very first time receiving a professional massage, and I was excited and impressed with the service... until I was about to leave. The receptionist stopped me and informed me that my gift card was only for $55.00, and I had received $85.00 worth of services. I was confused. I had not asked for extra services, nor had anyone informed me before my massage that my gift card was not sufficient. I was not shown price list or asked what I wanted. Yet, somehow, I was billed for an $85.00 massage without my consent or knowledge. I've heard of businesses doing this before. It's dishonest. It's theft. My advice is to not trust this company. If you have received a gift card for this establishment, let them know that you will not stand for this type of trickery.

I will certainly never go back. I will not reward thieves with my business.
...

JustKariK says "They use all natural products!" about Egea - - Evanston, IL

I recently moved to Evanston and am just starting to try local businesses in the area. I have been in Chicago for so long that I have had my "standby" spots for everything. I like trying new places and decided to go to a spa that specializes in all-natural products. I am trying to do more environmentally friendly things in all aspects of life and this seemed like a good thing to add to the list.

I really enjoyed the spa and the staff. I got a facial and a pedicure while I was there on the second to last Sunday in September. I was going to have make-up done afterwords but my facialist said I would probably not love the Bare Minerals products because they were all powder. I saved time because she was honest but still spent extra money on the great facial cleanser she used on me during the facial. I really love it and can tell a difference in my skin this week.

The pedicure was great because there was no formaldehyde in any of the products. Also, they have massage chairs that had...
...

Jolie says "Charming little spa with awesome hot stone massages" about Egea - - Evanston, IL

This past weekend, I threw out my lower back. I don't know what I did, or how I did it, but it hurt. Badly. So, I called a friend and thought this would be a perfect excuse for a spa afternoon. Since we didn't have much advance notice, we decided to go to a small spa-Egea, in Evanston.

From the moment I arrived at Egea, I felt like it was such a soothing environment. The walls are water/aqua blue and there is "mood" music playing. It smells good and definitely gives off a calming feel. (It is also a small, intimate lobby, so don't expect grandeur)

You are immediately led to a changing room down a series of zipzag halls. You are asked to change into a robe and slippers. The "locker room" was small, yet charming. (apparently they have a few). It had orchids, lovely curtains to divide the space, nice shower stalls, a huge bathroom, etc. While it was charming, it definitely would have been really cramped if 2 or more people were in there. But, it was perfect for us!

Then, you are led to your...
...
