Summary: This is arguably one of the best "bagless" household vacuum cleaners money can buy. Dyson's root cyclone technology really does perform. And this latest Level 3 Root Cyclone trumps even its other models.

If you're serious about having a real clean environment, this is THE product to buy. I just moved into an apartment a month ago and they replaced the carpets in most of the area and steam cleaned the others that they deemed need not be replaced. I used the vacuum in both and I can tell you that steam cleaning old carpets may get rid of surface dirt and stains, but Dyson is your friend if you want to suck out most (if not all) the dirt hidden below the surface. I could not believe how much dust it was picking up in such a small area. The bin filled up pretty fast so I was on to round 2 in the same patch of rug. This time it was picking up very find dust. Dust that may have been stuck for years and was never sucked out from other vacuum systems. Round 3 time and you will smile when...

I received this vacuum as a Christmas present around 6 years and have never had any problems with it. I love it. It picks up everything It never looses suction. The dust cup is very easy to empty. It's very easy to take apart to clean if needed. I would recommend this vacume to anyone, whether you are a pet owner or not. I never see any dust particles floating in the air like you do when you use other vacuums. I have occasionally had to take some pieces off to clean, such as the guard around the brush to get the hair from around the roller, but it's a snap. It has a long extendable wand you can use to get the dust bunnies under the bed and the cob webs on the ceiling.

I got this model of Dyson over 5 years ago and while it's looking a bit beat-up, it's still in use and still has the power.

After having a Dyson, I don't think I could ever trust any other vacuum. This thing has suction! It pulled dust out of my carpet that had obviously been in there for years. I couldn't believe what it pulled out. I had to empty the vacuum frequently at first, until it got that old dust up out of the carpet.

Besides the great suction, the best thing this vacuum has is a super-simple way to empty the cannister. You remove it, hold it over the garbage can, pull a trigger, and all the dirt falls out the bottom! No muss, no fuss. A girlfriend of mind, upon seeing the way it emptied, said, "That's the sexiest thing I've seen in years!" LOL!

It almost makes cleaning fun -- no more dust headaches! I used to think I was just lazy and didn't like to clean. Turns out I'm NOT lazy, just very allergic to dust and my other vacuum was kicking it up. After only a little while, I'd...

I have five cats and there is always cat hair everywhere. Actually, you can sometimes find, in a corner somwhere, a hairball that is so large that you actually think it is another animal! Oh, how awful!! It didn't seem to matter how often I vacuumed, there was always cat hair around, until I found the Dyson DC17 vacuum. I had heard that it was a good vacuum but I was a little hesitant to spend close to $500 on a vacuum. However, I bit the bullet and bought one about eight months ago and I can say, without hesitation, that this is the best vacuum I have ever owned. You can actually see the cat hair as it swirls around in the bagless canister. I sometimes have to empty it twice before I am done vacuuming the house, but it is so worth it to know that it is actually getting deep down into the carpets and I am getting a "real" clean and not just a surface clean. I would recommend the Dyson DC17 to anyone with pets!
