Plenty of publications exist that focus on the home and they concentrate on many different areas, such as home design, home repair, vacation homes, and more. One home publication that focuses on home remodeling and related topics is Dwell Magazine, a publication for those who want modernity with a twist.

Magazine Commentary:

Dwell Magazine contains about 130 pages in each issue, with the usual assortment of departments found in most magazines, along with about five or six featured articles. Each issue focuses on a specific theme, which is spelled out on the cover, directly beneath the magazine's name. The magazine is published ten times per year and carries a base subscription price of about $20 per year.

I receive a large number of magazines each month and Dwell Magazine ranks among several that focus on the home. Subtitled "A Home in the Modern World", Dwell Magazine takes the idea of "modern" to a slightly different level than other, similar publications such as Metropolitan Home....

I have always loved modern homes. Dwell is good magazine to get to find out the latest on what is happening in the modern world. I love pre-fab style homes and they do a good job on keeping up to date. It is a green magazine which is a plus too....

Dwell is a great Saturday-morning-with-coffee read...I've read many issues cover-to-cover. Even though many of the products/design elements featured are not financially feasible for my income, I still get plenty of practical ideas that I incorporate into my home.

One of my top three magazines is Dwell. Their tag-line is "At Home in the Modern World," which does a fairly nice job of summing up the book. As a clarifying note, one of the most recent Editor's Note explored "At Home in the Modern World" and was very clear to explain that Dwell isn't composed entirely in the 'expected and fashionable modern style.' It's far more about sustainability - utilizing modern materials that are more eco-friendly or renovating something that is old; leveraging past and current materials better, wiser. Most importantly, one's shelter is about exploring personal style, being comfortable with who you are and reflecting that in one's nest(s). I think it's important to note all of this, otherwise, at first glance, their will be confusion regarding what Dwell is about. Net/net, it's very assessable.

Dwell always starts out with an intriguing litany of letters that range from mostly positive to occasionally negative, which is an honest approach. The Editor,...

I stumbled onto Dwell magazine at my neighborhood Big Box do-it-yourself store. It's focused entirely on Modern interiors and exteriors, and features homes in various locations across the country.

Dwell could talk down to non-architects, but never does. It strikes a perfect balance for readers who are somewhat sophisticated, know their taste, and like to learn more. Plus, who can resist the voyeur aspect of peeking inside a really great house?

The Sources guide is fabulous as well.
