I recently went to Las Vegas with my huband and myself, and another couple, my sister and her husband. Since we used out Worldmark by Wyndham membership for the room they picked up the rental car!! I stress that the rental car was in their name which is why this was sooo funny to me!! So they way they are set up in Vegas now all the rental car places are in one big hub and you jsut go to whatever company you have a reservation to...this is like...everyone hops on one shuttle instead of watchign shuttles for other rental places passing you by at the airport....

The Reservation..

Our reservation was for a SUV, my sisters husband is 6'3'' so there was no way we could risk ending up in a neon or something like that...well our flight was delayed...but I did call ahead of time and let the rental car company know..and they said it was fine...so when we get there suprise suprise no SUVs left...thought they do not tell us this until we ahev already paid and are exscorted otu to pick from some stationwagon...

If I could give this company a minus star rating instead of a plus one I would. It all started with the wait to get up to the counter at the Las Vegas Airport. This is the only company that had a 45 minute wait time. All the other companies had enough staff to cover the customers with no wait time. The line was just as long upon our return. The car was a 2008 Maxima with 45,000 miles. A bit high but I figured that they took care of the cars. We proceeded to Death Valley for a quick day run (180 miles) and then we were going to come back to Vegas for a pre-purchased show ($250). At our pre planned noon departure from Death Valley (we wanted to make sure we could make the evening show) the car would not go into drive. In Death Valley there is no cell service and the only phone was a pay phone that would only dial 800 numbers. I called the car rental people and was told they would send a tow truck with a replacement car for me and they would be there in about 3 hours. ...

Two things really turned us off at the Phoenix Airport Dollar

#1. The rental agreement you sign makes you responsible for all "loss of use" so if there's a fender bender and it takes 3 weeks to fix it, you just rented that car for another 3 weeks, NO MATTER WHO CAUSED IT.

#2. At drop off we reviewed each item of the bill and we got charged $8 for Frequent Flyer Miles. I guess they give them to you when you rent but it's not free. My wife was terminally pissed. Jerry the drop off guy was super nice, but Dollar is really out to gouge.

You get charged if you drop it off a few hours early too, may be that's typical but it doesn't seem right.

I suggest that no military or disabled veterans, like me, ever rent from dollar. Don't get ripped off like I did! The Management does not respect us nor do they want to talk to us. They say one thing and do something else. BAD BAD company. Use anyone but dollar. Check the fine print really well and do not believe what they say at the counter, they have no clue what they are talking about.

For a 3 weeks trip through California and Nevada in a party of 4 persons we rent a dollar car already before the start from Germany. We wanted to take over a 4WD jeep in San Franciso downtown - ok, it was not that we wnted but similar, and not ok: we had to wait in a row for more than one hour, at times only one of four ppl behind the counter. Just to mention it: this was a regular weekday ...

Soon after the start down highway 1 we realized that the was a sign highlighted: "engine". The users guide said that meant "severe (maybe general) problem" - dont go further. We called dollar service, explained the problem and were told to go to the next rental station, more tham 150 miles with a car your downt know how severe the problem might be.

Ok, we changed it for a more comfortable and with a complimentary full tank, but no more 4WD. When we went down Tioga Pass next day the stirring started problems: at more than 40 mph the whole car started shaking when one needed to use the brake. To make...

I rented the car one week from Dollar and that is a good trip from Sacramento to San Diego. For the all trip plus tax ... they charged me $285.00. It is a good price I thought but after one month, they charged me more $25.00 on my credit card because of the violation I had made. I really don't know about that and there is no evidence to show me that I was fined. Moreover, After i made a dispute to my credit company, they sent me some documents. Actually, I rent a Ford 2009 with over 7,000 miles, but the DOLLAR sent documents to my credit company is the Nissan Sentra 2006 with over 30,000 miles. The difference is too big. I do not want to make more dispute, just keep in mind that, no more deal with the Dollar rental.

I went with Dollar's Lock Low & Go special offer which was for a Mid-size or larger car for the a low price. When I took possesion of this car they would only offer me an economy sized car, and if I wanted to upgrade to a full sized car it would have cost me over double what I was qouted online at the time of my reservation. Upon trying to discuss the problem with Dollar's customer service I realized that they did not care one bit about what I had to say, and only referred me back to the location of where I rented the car from and told me to talk to the manager when I return car. Typical passing of the buck in the corporate world. Make no mistake about it, I'll spend the few extra dollars next time and go with a proven company like Enterprise where I've had no problem. Shame on me for trying to save a few bucks.... there is always a catch! :(

Planned ahead, got my confirmation...set to go for a long Labor Day weekend...no problem, right? Got what I thought was a fairly decent deal thru Hotwire--still expensive, but the best deal I could find. Dollar rented me an "economy" car which was a run-down, crappy/gross electric-blue Chevy which had so much body damage it looked like somebody's old beater. The entire back bumper was exposed and paint was peeling off in visible strips. They WERE fair enough to refund my money (and admit that they should not be renting this particular car to anybody any more)--but would not give me another rental for even close to the same price... but spending the time to find another rental agency & waiting in line AGAIN put me behind 45-60 minutes to my destination. ACES to ACE rental car agency @ the Austin airport...who not only matched the Hotwire price (when Hertz wouldn't), but rented me a beautiful, new Corolla. Nice folks, too. They earned my business. Dollar charged me an early return fee of $15 because I brought the car back 3 hours before the due date on the contract. There is no possible cost to Dollar that would justify the fee. I'm sure they had the car back on the road within the hour!

The rental office at the Denver airport is also understaffed ( I waited over 30 minutes to get to a rep) and then they told me that no car of the class I had rented was available and made me wait an additional 30 minutes for one to "become available." Dollar then gave me the keys to a car (of the same rental class as the one I reserved) that had been sitting in the lot the whole time I was in the rental office. When I asked why I had had to wait a half hour for a car that was already available, the guy just shrugged his shoulders and smiled.

Bottom line: I will never rent from Dollar again.

Went to Dollar in Orlando had a reservation. While registering for our car There was a computer error with our credit card. We called and had the error fixed. Then we were told that we could not use the same card due to the system setup and only a manager could override. OK get the manager right, no he was late hadn't called and no one knew when he would there. I tried for 30 minutes to call customer service and no one ever answered the phone. After 30 minute trying to call and waiting for the manager we left and went to E-Z rental they matched our quoted price and had us out of there in a few minutes.

Dollar has rude emplotees and horrible customer service I will never use it again. My recomendation go somewhere else.

Poor and not to rely on
I am from Copenhagen Denmark, and has rented the car in the Las Vegas airport from 9 June 2009 to 24 June 2009
But when we retrieved the car, I was charged 128 dollars for road safe with the message that it was not included in the rental, it was a big lie and I then contacted U.S. dollars rent a car which will not pay that amount back, so I would recommend that rent from the major car leasing companies that I have never been cheated of.
I would add that the car was defective, could not switch off air conditioning and cruise control did not work

Just when I thought I could save a couple of bucks. It back-fired. Worse rental car experience ever. I should have googled reviews about them before renting.

Dollar Car Rental in San Diego on Pacific Highway. Yep, it's the only there, right by the airport.

Waited over 2 hours in line in to get to the counter. The agent told me that it was not typical. Well, when I returned the car I saw a long line.

Lied to me about the price of gasoline being 30 cents more than what they offered. But I found a gas station a few blocks away was charging less then the price they offered.

Gave me an upgrade after I declined the insurance (LWD) but charged me $14.99 a day.

All and all, the cost of rental doubled. I know these guys got mouths to feed and they work on commissions but so do we. It's just not worth the time and hastle.

By the way, I had good experiences with Dollar elsewhere.

Dollar Rent A Car: This is the second time I've had a problem with Dollar only to get offered vouchers. This time, I went to pick-up my car and they only had the PT Cruiser available in the class I reserved (which I hate), nothing in level higher, only full size (2 levels higher). He told me it was $11.99/day more, I said "no thanks" and I'd go to another rental agency. He said "wait, wait, since nothing available one level up, I'll give you the full size for $5.99 which is the one level up price". I said ok and rented. Later I noticed he charged me the full amount of $11.99. I brought car back (with 42,000 miles on it) and told them that the car shook pretty violently when breaks applied and they replied "well, we have to keep them longer now" and didn't even record the comment about the breaks and told me that I had to call the national customer service about the overcharge. When I did, they were only willing to give me $20 of vouchers though I'd rather never rent from them again. Dollar...

Ifar at the Las Vegas Mccarran Airport counter refused to honor my reservation price . The date and times are correct on the reservation. We returned the car an hour early. Ifar the customer service rep accused me of changing the rental time on the reservation and we had to argue for 15 minutes to get it reduced. He also added a $40 charge for additional driver and said he couldn't remove it. They are fraudulently adding fees to our reservation. This was the worst rental car experience I've ever had. Angry customers waited in line for an hour because each transaction took 20 minutes. Other rental companies take 5 minutes. I will not this company ever again. horrendous experience

I have rented from Dollar a couple of times, mostly because of price. I have been very happy with the price of their rentals and their customer service is usually very good. In fact, on my most recent rental, I accidently left my garage door opener in the car after returning it. I called the next morning and reported the lost item and they tracked it down for me.

My main issue with Dollar is that every time I rent from them, I get a car that is damaged. It is still driveable, but when you don't take out the insurance, it can be an issue. You don't want them charging you for the damage and at the location I rent from (Pittsburgh) they don't always mark the existing damage on the rental because you pick up the paperwork at the counter inside the airport and then retrieve your car.

This last rental, I had to return the car and exchange it because of the damage. It had three chips in the windshield and one was starting to spider - right in the line of sight. As previously...
