Animal Advocates Alliance helped me get my little adorable bundle of four-legged fur and I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. They are a couple team who have dedicated their lives, money, time and every last breathing moment to the betterment of animals, particularly abandoned dogs in the great Los Angeles area. They probably have 10-11 foster dogs in their own home because there are no other places for them to be taken care of.

Lee & Phillip and their organization (animaladvocatesalliance dot org) have recently been featured on Dancing with the Stars via two of their dancers. They hold weekly adoption events and more. I've personally met all involved and these folks not only give their spare time and money, but they are so committed to finding good homes for all the dogs that come their way. No discrimination. Small, big, furry or splotchy, it doesn't matter. They are in it to provide these loving creatures with warm, loving homes. Check them out and adopt your new best friend!!...
...

There are thousands of animals being needlessly euthanized every day. Purchasing an animal from a breeder is helping to lead to many of these deaths. Many animals in shelters and rescues are full bred. Please don't shop, Adopt!
...

I love going to dog shelters or any kind of animal shelter. That is usually where you get the best kinds of animals. They only keep animals that they know are going to be good for any type of family. I have had a lot of dogs that I have gotten from shelters and they are just really awesome dogs. They have always been clean and their fur and everything else has always been really kept up. The have been wonderful animals that have all loved children and they have all loved other animals. They are usually kept up on their shots, and some of them have even been spayed and neutered. They have a lot of different kind of breeds. They have had pitbulls, labs, golden retrievers, you name it they have had it. They also have any where from small to big breeds. Puppies to full grown adult dogs. They just all have a wonderful variety and plenty to choose from. Not all shelters are bad but then again not all shelters are good. It just really depends on where you go.
...

I will admit dog rescues are not perfect. But, dog rescues are doing a great service to the community. Where else would dogs go if the shelter wasn't an available option? 4 months ago, I got my dog from the rescue. The rescue I went to would not give the dogs to just anyone and made sure I knew of the responsibilities with having a dog. The rescue is also very reasonably priced. Our 2 month old puppy cost 80 dollars and this including neutering and the first round of shots. It is hard to think of the dogs who are euthanized in shelters. But, thankffully this is becoming less and less rare. The dog rescues I have been to care about the dogs. I think this is an important quality.

A dog rescue is a great place to get your dog. Not only do you save a dog's life, you also get a great price on a dog. The dog may not be purebred...but purebred isn't always the best way to go since this can lead to more diseases.
...

They are NOT Shelters. They are TOTALLY different, but their name is used in the same context.

Dog rescues are probably the least know avenue out there for the public to know about. They don't have the finances to advertise like the big named shelters that are run like a business with employees and salaries. They aren't owned by the county, like the pounds.

There are Rescues for every purebred dog out there and then some. Shelters don't specialize. There are resource's to find the perfect pet, such as PetFinder.com. just type in what you are looking for and where, and you'll be surprised and hopefully sadden by the number of dogs waiting for homes.

I volunteer and have been a failed foster home (adopted my foster) for 7 years now. I came across the rescue by accident while looking for an companion for my other adopted dog from a shelter. I looked at Petfinder typed in the breed and location, and came across Illinois Birddog Rescue. After adopting a dog from them, I became a volunteer....
...

I understand dog rescue on a personal basis. We knew a young man who was homeless and had his pregnant dog with him. He had worked with my Fiance a couple of times. I saw him walking past our house and we invited him in just to find out his girlfriend had thrown him and the dog out that day. They had not been in the house 10 minutes when mama started to give birth. we sprang into action grabing lots of old sheets and a big box for her to finish giving birth to the rest of the pups. She had 6 puppies, 4 boys and 2 girls. We let the young man and the dogs stay with us, he ended up leaving and we ended up with 7 more dogs we already had 2 of our own. We knew we could not keep these dogs as we did not have enough room. We contacted Best Friends. They helped us by finding wonderful homes for all 6 puppies and the mother. We took care of all of them till the pups were old enough to leave so we also know the heart ache of getting attached and having to let go. These are the kind of strings that......

Dogs usually respond to who is caring for them. To a dog, the one who walks them, feeds them and plays with them, must be the master. If you have relagated this to your Mom, your dogs allegiance is to her. In order to win your dogs heart back, you must put in QUALITY TIME. Try taking your dog for nice long walks, no yelling at it, no being mean to your dog or he will become even more attached to your Mum. Train your dog, by giving him treats when he does his tricks (food treats are a huge motivator for dogs!) and he will literally be eating out of your hand! Feed him his meals, make sure he knows you are the one feeding him and getting his water and so on. When you are just hanging out, include your dog. If he is sitting with you while watching tv or reading, he knows you are his. Be the pack leader to your dog and you will never have to worry about his loyalties again. Good luck with winning his heart back!...

In a perfect world there would be no abuse, however as humans living in an imperfect world, this problem creates social stigma and disstress, not to mention the financial burden to local and national agencies trying to eliminate or to at least minimize the impact of cruel, mean and barbaric behavior.

If only the politicians and government agencies had more backing, financial as well as social assistance, what a wonderful world we could make for all the animals needing assistance and all the devoted people that continue to give 200+% of time effort and money to the well being of creatures and animals that are unable to help themselves and more than not find themselves in an awful situation from a not so well meaning or under informed human being.

Health and safety issues, being the primary concern...for our society and the animals.
I volunteer with an animal rescue group that works out of the county animal shelter. If people would spay/neuter and be responsible we wouldn't need shelters and the number of animals euthanized would drop dramatically. We save as many dogs as possible but can't save them all because there is no where for them to go. As a result, some very adoptable dogs are euthanized. I is heartbreaking....

I have always some way been involved with pets. I started volunteering at an animal shelter in conway and it's the best thing. We constantly are getting in animals with all kinds of story's and we try to help them out the best that we can. We try to make them comfortable and their time there enjoyable(although we get attached we always hope for a good home.). It's always sad seeing them in the shelter but we try our best to get them placed in a home. We hold adoption days, advertise them on the internet, and advertise them on the t.v.! We also help out the mama's that come through whether it be a cat or dog. We currently have to litters of kittens and several different types of pups. So yeah I do promote animal shelters because it gives them a safe place to go rather then people just dumping them out....

I think that anyone who rescues a dog (or any other animal) should be applauded. Not many people would care about what happens to them. But I do, if I could, I would go to an animal shelter and adopt every last one of them. So if you can find it in your heart, go to your local shelter and adopt an animal. Be it cat or dog, they both need our love and attentiion. If you dont think you can handle a cat or dog, dont adopt one. It breaks my heart when I hear about the animals that are abused and neglected these days....

I see from reading many reviews here that the way to rescue a dog is to be a volunteer or a member of the rescue. But what if you're not a volunteer or a member?

I haunted rescue sites for months, having lost my sweet 10-year-old boxer. I contacted several rescues in my area... filled out the extensive applications... and heard nothing from any of them. I'd see more dogs offered and would email the rescue BEGGING them to review my application... nothing. When I asked friends who'd dealt with rescues why they thought I was being ignored, their overwhelming observation was that I didn't have a fenced in area for a dog. I didn't have one for my boxer either! I never left him outside when I wasn't home... I trained him to stay with me or I walked him on a leash.

I gave up. I finally ended up buying a boxer puppy, who is almost 2 years old. We moved from PA to AR and there are rescues here which, I hear, will be more accepting... their mission being to adopt out dogs! I still don't have a...
...
