They are really high strung and like loads of attention and are very protective.

I adoped a Jack Russell Terrier about 5 years ago when she was 3 years old. After reading the reviews about this breed, I was nervous about their temperment. The rescuer told me to trust her, and it was the best decision I've ever made! Our Jack Russell, Sandy, is the best dog I've ever had...and I've had alot of dogs throughout my lifetime.

She's so affectionate and loving! When I sit down, she's in my lap. If I move to another room, she lays at my feet. She sleeps at my side...licks my face...cuddles and protects. She's interactive and loyal.

She's smart and obedient! When I get dressed to leave the house, Sandy immediately gets in her cage. When I turn the television off at night, she immediately jumps in bed. In addition, Sandy was easy to house train. It seems she lives simply to please me.

She's never aggressive! I have three daughters and Sandy is great with all three. She definately has selected me as the one she's bonded with, but Sandy is affectionate...

Two years ago two terrior pups, in pretty poor shape, wiondered into my neighbors boyfriends work. One had an eyeglass strap around his neck very tight...someone was using it as a leash. The other was very small, his ears and tail already clipped. I was going to keep the bigger of the two...he had a badly injured paw. I nursed him for two days, he still wanted to run...so he did. I searched as best i could around the neighborhood, no puppy. My neighbor was going to keep the smaller one for her son, but for the grace of God gave him to me. She told me there was condition, I had to keep his name...Simon. I said ok...I just made it more personable for me...I changed his spelling. My jack russell terriors name, is Cymun Kow. The kow is because he looks like a little cow... kind of eats like one too. We're going on our third year together...my life is very dependent on him...he's my best friend. We have a terrier mix so it's not a purebreed. She was a pound puppy that we were fostering and when it came time to give her to the rescue, I couldn't let her go!!! She is SO CUTE!!!! She is terribly behaved which is partly her fault (breed has lots of energy) and partly mine (I haven't taken the time to be consistent with her training). She loves to play bite and hassles all the other dogs and cats a lot. None of the other animals particularly like her but that is because 4 are cats and the other 3 dogs are older and don't want to play. I think a terrier would be best with another dog of their energy level to play with to let some of her energy out. She runs around the yard quite a bit. She does dig and we have to put her on a tie out in the yard because she will dig under the fence and be gone in about five minutes. She is crate trained but we feel it is better for her to be outside on a tie out than in a crate all day. She also digs around her doghouse when she is bored so we...

Don't believe the stereotypes, there is such a thing as a calm Jack Russell Terrier. I own two of them and have bred them for 7 years, all of my Jacks are calm, well bred, wonderful family dogs. If you take the time to research the breed and breeders, visit the home of the breeder before you buy and take the time to train your puppy, you will find that the Jack Russell can be the perfect pet. They are smart, easy to train, have a LOT of personality and can be taught to be good around kids, cats, and even pet rats and mice. They are high energy pets, they need time outside to be exercised regularly, but they also like to sit in your lap and watch television and sleep under the covers with you. If you find a Jack, you find a friend for life, a partner in crime, a furry blanket. Be ready for personality plus, but with a Jack, your life will never be dull or boring.

Whatever you do - NEVER buy a dog from a pet store or puppy mill, be sure your breeder offers a health guarantee and...

Is a Jack Russell Terrior right for you?

A Jack Russell is a very hyper breed of dog. If you live a very active life that includes being outside at pet friendly events, then this is the breed for you. If you plan to spend ample time with your pet, then JR's are one of many breeds that I would recommend. They need lots of attention. They need lots of affection. If left alone, they will find something to occupy their time. Rarely do they sleep while alone. They love to play. They can play for hours. They eat when they are hungry. Love treats as rewards, but do not overeat. Rarely do JR's take naps.

SIZE: 10-15lbs - Anything over 15lbs would be considered obese

COLOR: Black/Tan, White, Spotted, Liver, Solid Black

HOUSE DOG: Prefers outdoors. Inside dogs must have lots of exercise. Inside dogs need little access to the home. If they have the run of the house, then they will find something to chew and rip apart if left alone.

Two of our three dogs are Jack Russel Mix dogs. I am just in love with the breed. One dog is a JR/Beagle mix (JackAbee) and the other is what we think a JR/Corgi mix, not sure with her but we know she is Jack. All our dogs are rescues. One of the Jacks, Gracie, was in a shelter with her siblings and the picture on petfinder was of her and her sister cuddled in the corner of the kennel all sad. She grabbed our hearts right away and even though she was about 10 hours away from us and took two rescue groups to get her to us, she is definitely where she is suppose to be. I had Gracie at a dog competition on Mothers Day weekend and there was a rescue there with some dogs. Lo and behold they had a JR in a little cage and again, we looked each other in the eyes and that was that. She now lives with us in her forever home. They both have that JR attitude and they think they are as big as Great Danes. They are not mean at all but they won't put up with any crap either. ...

My family was looking for a small family dog and decided to look at Jack Russell puppies. We found one on craigslist for the right price - went and met him - and brought him home. Within the first day, my son had taught him to sit and stay. You can tell by the knowledge knot on his head that he is very smart. Jack Russell's make good family pets and are very good listeners and learners. Since we got him, we have also taught him how to fetch something and bring it back and drop it and how to "sit Pretty' He is still only four months old and I have a feeling he is going to keep learning new tricks as he gets older.

So, your thinking of getting a Jack Russell Terrier? Well, let me tell you that they are NOT all alike. I was told by so many people not to get one unless I had a lot of time and energy to put into it. Like I said, not all Jack Russells are alike. As puppies they do seem to have an awful lot of energy, but then, doesn't all puppies? They are very easy to train in some things. They are one of the most intellegent dogs there are. House training get be a bit complecated though. My little one, Bailey, is almost 6 months old, and still doesn't quit get it. I have laid papers at my door, and she does use them if she doesn't get out when she wants. My problem with house training is that she doesn't let me know when she needs to go out. All I can do it look for the signs. Sniffing, circling, those sort of things. They Love of a Jack Russell is AWESOME!!! She is always so happy to see me when I get in the door. Even if I have only been right ourside for a few minutes. I would highly recommend a......

she is always there when i'm sick, sad, upset, hurting or whatever. she loves to see her "papa" come home from work everyday. she is very alert on her happenings that goes on around her and tells me when things aren't right. she is a miniture and only weighs about 5 pounds, but we all love her and her giant heart....

We have 2 Jack's in our house and they are very different, Sami Sue is very timid and loves to cuddle, but Scooter is hyper and very independent and wants attention when he wants it. But they both love to sleep under the covers and always let me know when someone drives in the driveway, and even if there is a rabbit in the yard( very annoying). They are both good guard dogs and very protective of the family. They are great with kids and very gentle.

The Jack Russell Terrier

I've owned three Jack Russell Terriers since 1994. They are happy and energetic dogs. Each one has their own personality. I've found that smooth coats shed the most. All of my terriers have been on prescription dog food because of their sensitive stomachs.

Introduction To My Jack Russell Terriers~
Patches - My first Jack Russell Terrier was a rough coat with black ears. I adopted him at 8 weeks old from a Jack Russell Terrier breeder. He was a ball of energy, loved to cuddle in your lap, and play with basketballs. He died at 9-years old of an unknown illness.

Rustie - I rescued my second Jack Russell Terrier in 2003. He is a smooth coat with dark brown markings. He was abused and very timid when I got him. Now, he is active and loves barking, playing with his tennis balls, and cuddling in my lap.

Nicholas - I adopted a Parson Russell Terrier puppy in 2007. He is a smooth coat with light brown ears and markings. He gets into all kinds of mischief and loves playing...

I have a Jack Russel Terrier who is 9 years old. He is very calm, actually.He has never liked toys, and has anxiety. I mean, My dog is VERY different, right? Well, the point of this review is to tell you about MY jack russel. Well, his name is boomer, because of his fear of thunderstorms. his muscles litterly QUIVER. I love him dearly, but I have to admit, he is so annoying. I believe that most Jack Russel's are very playful, loyal, anything you want in a dog, he is. I mean, yeah, boomer is super loyal. Listen to this: You know how a dog is supposed to bark when you COME IN....Boomer barks when you knock, and stops when you come in. I assume it is because he evedintally wants to tell us sme one is knocking, and when we let them in, he is like it's on you now. lol :]]
