It is small, easy on gas. The down fall is if you need service on it for an alternator you have to bring it a shop....

The 1998 Dodge Neon is a pretty good car. At least it gets me from place to place without breaking down. I love the design of this car and the color choices. It is pretty reliable. I love how this car looks when its coming down the road. Its easy to drive this car. I love it!!!

The biggest piece of CRAP on the road today. They don't get much worse than a neon of any year. I had one less than a month and the heads messed up on it. Then the motor. It cost me more to send it to the shop than the car was worth. It never the same again.

Unlike others who call this car a "Lemon", I never had a problem with mine. I honestly believe a lot of it has to do with how any car is driven & how well (or poorly) it is maintained.

I am a firm believer in...

Oil Changes ever 3,000 miles or 3 months.
Re-balance & rotate tires every 6,000 miles.
Air Filter replacement as needed.
Check fluids often.
Check air pressure in tires once a week.
No "super fast" starts or stops.

Top marks for a driver's seat that my large frame could get into. Also, a fold-down rear seat for more storage & hauling. Thumbs down for gas mileage not even close to the window sticker estimate. But, I had the automatic transmission; a stick shift normally does better. Thumbs up for quick & nimble steering - handling. I also had tires with an Aqua-tread pattern...no hydroplaning. Sadly, thumbs down on road noise. But, what do you expect from a budget car? Finally, thumbs up on the air conditioner that would freeze out an Eskimo.

i have one its not a good car, it is cheap on gas, however these have no power! dont get stuck in the fast lane lol...

Owning a Dodge Neon was the worst nightmare of my life. I was very excited when I purchased my new Dodge Neon only to be disappointed by the quality and performance of the vehicle. at 6 months old I had to start replacing parts, so much so I wanted to register the vehicle as a "lemon", but I was told it had to be the same problem over and over again, not the failing of different parts. The best was when I was going on vacation and my car just stopped 180 miles from home. After I had the car towed at the cost of $200, I was told that my just under 2 year old Neon with 53,000 miles on it had a "blown engine". I contacted the dealership and Dodge directly and I was told "we are so sorry to hear this". There was no offer to help with the repairs, no discount on parts or labor. After i spent over $3,000 dollars to have the engine replaced about 1 month later I was told I had a leak in the radiator and it had to be replaces. At this point I could not even bring myself to spend......

I loved my little Neon. It was a 1999 and it got great mileage and was pretty fast. I took it out racing at a few tracks. It was pretty basic and that's one of the downsides. I had to upgrade the stereo system, the engine for more performance and even the interior looks. But as an everyday driver it was awesome.

My husband and I did all our research before we bought our Neon. Consumer Reports, online reviews, you name it. The '98 Neon was getting great reviews in our price range.

When we got to the lot to pick one out, I fell in love with the R/T (Road & Track) model with its sexy racing stripes. Talk about looking like a million bucks for such a reasonable price tag! Well, my husband told me LATER that all our research was for the standard Neon, not the R/T, but oh well! I was in love with my super sporty little Neon. FUN to drive.

The moonroof stopped working about 6 months after purchase. The car was under warranty, so we took it in. They kept it for over a week without giving us a loaner car or anything. The moonroof worked for about a week and then broke again. We decided we didn't want a moonroof that badly anyway. Next, the cruise control went out before the car's second year was up. Then the powerlocks, and the windows, one at a time. At least the stereo and A/C never died.
