We subscribed to Direct TV a tear ago. We were told by two employees that we could bet local channels once we got a waiver and that they had never had an issue with this.

Once we did the install we could not get a waiver and the folks at Direct TV could not have cared less.

After several heated phone discussions, we decided to quit Direct TV.

Now they have us in collections because we refuse to pay the early cancellation fee.

Evidently there is a class action suit against Direct TV in California, but we are in Oregon.

This company is unethical.

I regret the day we signed.

DO NOT BUY DIRECT TV.
...

Ok, first off let me start off by saying that I only got Direct TV because Verizon was not available in my home area. With that out of the way-- I personally perfer cable but Direct TV has lived up to it's hype. The guide is pretty user friendly. The remote is self explanitory. I can not picture my life without my DVR. However, every once in awhile the "to-do" list goes on the fritz and does not record what it say's it will record and at times records something that is not programmed to record. My TV isn't high definition therefore I cannot comment on the quality of High Definition first hand, although from what I've witnessed from my friend's TV with Direct TV, it is AWESOME and I am super jealous. Another feature I really like about this provider is the unique application where one can program the DVR from the internet (or via cell phone) Since it does come with a dish, be aware that weather can wreak havoc during storms. Other than that, definitely worth the price. Enjoy!
...

tiggerlas says "After Many Years I dumped Direct TV" about Direct TV

Direct TV is a casualty of my household cost cutting efforts. Because we liked having the NFLChannel, we stayed with Direct TV after one of our two owned receivers stopped working. We upgraded that receiver to a leased DVR. After that we learned they changed our package without informing us. And this year raised our bill without a warning. I researched and spoke to Dish Network who clearly laid out a program bundle to our liking with the price for the next 2 years. Then we called Direct TV. Try as they might they met the price for the first year but wanted a 2 year contract without knowing what the next year price would be. We said no.

With Direct TV the signal would be lost every time it rained. Because we own the dish and one receiver, they wanted to nickle and dime the repairs which we refused. Their overall customer service was okay when we needed help to set up the DVR when we added it, and the autobilling worked well.

Direct TV needs to realize that they are...
...

Oh my Gee girl, you should totally get DirectTV!! :P DirectTV ROCKS! You can save a show so it will come on automatically without you looking for it later. There are tons of music channels. You can set your own guide name and color!! AWESOMEE! At one point I had Dish Network, it was okay but I think DirectTV is much better. The ONLY bad thing about it is when there is a storm your channel may not show due to satilite/cloud problems. But besides that DirectTV is awesomely sexy! If I had to choose between DirectTV and any other TV system thingy I would deffinatly stick with DirectTV because it is so worth the money. Oh! That reminds me. You only have to pay a small amount every month. It's GREAT! And I think the best feature is the search guide. You can look up shows/movies before they even play and set it to play when it comes on. There is also a button called "GAME" or something like that, when you press that some games come up. Its sooo fawkin cool. :P
...

Customer service is rude and explanation of terms is unclear. Picture quality is poor, but since I didn't cancel within 24 hours, I'm stuck for 2 years. The plan I thought I signed up for had hidden fees involved. And customer service rep has the nerve to say they have a great reputation. Liars!!! Buyer beware!!!
...

dire-ecttv says "dire-ect tv pricing is a scam," about Direct TV

I signed up for dire-ect tv and just after 3 months my signal went out. Coincidentally, the 'warrant period' is exactly 3 months. Thereafter you have to pay $7.00 a month for a service plan for a tech to come fix the dish. I can't help but think that if you don't sign up for the service plan initially they deliberately screw up your signal to force you into signing up. This is a complete scam. Prior to dire-ect tv, we had comcast. I was very happy with the service, which was very reliable. Also, you could bring a broken remote or cable box to their store and they would replace it for free. When you are cost comparing Comcast to dire-ect tv, don't forget to add $7.00 per month for the service guarantee plan, b/c I can guarantee you'll need it. I wish I still had comcast. Now I'm stuck with these bozos for 1.75 years.
...

Direct TV brings you in with a supposedly "great deal", but then when you get the bill, it's all wrong. They sign you up for things you didn't ask for and charge you a different price than you were offered. Nobody tells you, but when you sign up w/ direct TV, you are automatically put into a 2 year agreement. When you try to cancel your contract because they are charging you the wrong ammount and lying to you, refusing to fix things, they send you a bill for $480. You refuse to pay and then they charge your credit card that you gave them when you signed up. Worst company ever, liars, evil!!
...

I've subscribed to all three television venues: Cable, Dish Network, and Direct TV. At the present I have Direct TV. When it comes to cost, I feel there is not much difference amongst the three. They all get the same programming with similiar costs. Much depends on the package one purchases. Cable had the advantage of being able to offer local channels regardless to where you live. Local news and programming is important to my family. Dish and Direct TV might offer local channels depending on where you live. If you can get local channels from an off air antennae then most likely you won't be able to get the local channels from your satellite provider. But that's not always true either. Both Satellite companies offer local channels in many larger cities where it's easy to get them from only a rabbit ear device. To me, it doesn't make much sense. My biggest complaint with Direct TV, at the present, is that they will not provide our local channels whereas Dish Nitwork...
...
