I received my dell inspiron 6400 17" laptop as a graduation present and 5 years later its still the first computer I go to when I need to do something online. This computer has had literally thousands of hours of use and is still in great condition. When you purchase a new computer there's even a help line for dell you can call anytime you have problems, questions or concerns about the product! Just before my laptops fifth "birthday" the hard drive went bad and we were able to purchase one directly from dell and install it ourselves and it cost roughly $75 for an essentially brand new laptop! Dell is the one brand of laptop I would suggest to anyone because of the quality product, unique software, durable hardware and excellent costumer service! A lot of the recovery imformation is also "built-in" to the computer so you can trouble shoot common problems yourself and save time and money!! If you don't have the money to invest in a Mac with the economy the way it is right now I think the...
...

Figurefinder says "The Dell Inspiron 6400 is enough for my needs and prob free" about Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

The system has all of the functions that I would use in day to day situations. I have had only a few tech challenges that were a result of my ineptitude more than any real problem with the unit. From viewing show or movies that I choose to editing my vast picture library the Dell Inspiron has met every need.

There are still many functions as with most systems that I have never used. Many are just things that I do not do and probably will not. The keyboard and scratch mouse I have gotten used to. I actually prefer the scrath mouse compared to any point and click. I find that function much easier to use as compared to the standard point and click. Much less taxing on my wrist.

In the last few months I have run in to a probloem with the screen though. There seems to be some sort of degradation in the viewing. Not sure what this cause could be. I have an area about one and a half inch in from the left side where there is an area about 3/8 of an inch wide from top to bottom that shows colored...
...

jbk8887 says "Better than no laptop at all" about Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

So, I've had this computer for about 4 years now. It's better than no technology at all, but I wouldn't recommend buying it now, of course, it's outdated to say the least. I upgraded it from Windows XP to Windows 7. It runs slow and has trouble multitasking. I try running Skype and Mozilla at the same time, and it usually lags like no other. I cannot hear the voice on the other end or it becomes very choppy.

It's a bit on the heavy side. I don't take it to school with me because the weight, but the screen is alright. It's not as bright as the new computers that are out now, but it's pretty clear. For those who want to run games on this computer, don't. I can barely run "Luna" on this, and when I do, it lags, and I die.

The battery life in this thing sucks now. Like I said, I've had it for about four years, and the battery life diminished as I used it, like other computers do. I haven't bothered getting another battery for it. It has decent storage capacity, and will run if you don't really...
...

Dell Inspiron 6400.

I bought this laptop and customized to have 9 cell lithium battery by paying another $50 more. After using for an year the battery is now totally dead. My laptop is now as good as a desk top and lost is mobility. Dell is using poor quality batteries on their laptops.
...

When I first got this laptop directly from Dell, it came with Vista. It crashed right out of the box and customer service was horrible they kept telling me to reformat and start over, even though I hadn't done anything). I returned it to Dell and was 'fortunate' to find a used one with Windows XP on their site. It's been a year and a half now and I have had very little problems since.

The screen size is very good for the graphic and video work I do and it's not so heavy as to make it a nuisance. I really appreciate having the firewire port and wifi built in.

Battery life diminishes quickly though and I've had to replace mine twice. That's been a real drawback, especially when trying to work while traveling. Always have your adapter handy!
...

Wasn't looking for much other than speed on the internet and could work with my photos. Had an old HP & it had just bit the dust. Didn't want to spend too much and this Dell was just the ticket. Unfortunately, I find myself on it more often now. The battery holds up great & I find by the time it's just about gone -- that means I've been on it way too long. I dragged my feet putting out the money to get a new one, so glad I did and for this one.
...

This laptop was great until after just over one year the speakers broke. The warranty was up so it cost over $100 to have them diabled because they were making a horrible noise. The battery only lasted one year and then I had to buy a new one.

This computer is easily carried around because it is lightweight for it's size, the screen is neither too small nor too large. The system is adecuate for use by students but is also appliable for professional use. Programs change and/or upload quickly and easily. It has a sleek shiny surface which is not easily scratchable. It contains 4 USB external cable ports which can be convenient. The speakers are exceptionally audible, unlike other laptops that can barely be heard unless headphones are used. This system also includes the latest version of the Microsoft Office software program. This computer is better managed by using a wireless mouse, if you don't like to use the touch-pad type mouse, as is my case. The color graphics are also exceptional. If and when i have the need to purchase another laptop, it will definately be a Dell. ...
