Our Dell Inspiron 1501 is used everyday in homeschooling our 4th grader. It effectively supports her online streaming account. After the school day ends, she plays online games and she often uses it for research as well. It is the perfect choice for kids her age or anyone who is the occasional gamer or just average at home user.
...

I bought this laptop, dell inspiron 1501, about 1 1/2 years ago. I customized it with a eighty gigabyte hard drive, a two gigabyte memory or RAM, a dvd and cd writer, with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition Preinstalled (Not as bad as the internet says, I actually prefer it over Microsoft Windows Xp Home Edition. I bought it for email and internet, but I also wanted it for games. My big mistake was that I got integrated graphics which I will tell you to never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever do this when you can get good graphics for $50 more. I learned with this laptop that if something is better for just a little more get it anyway. Overall this is a great computer for the standard at home user, but if you think you are ever going to want to play games like Halo, Sims, Microsoft Flight Simulator, or any higher graphic game this is NOT the computer for you.
...

The Dell Inspiron 1501 worked okay right out of the box, but it worked much better when I replaced Windows Vista with Windows XP.

I upgraded the RAM to 2 Gb (maximum for this machine), I upgraded the battery to the 9 cell and I will be getting a larger hard drive installed (it came with a 60 Gb hard drive). But, for the money I spent it was a good investment, I have not had any hardware problems so far and I have owned this machine for aproximately 2 years. The Inspiron line is affordable, they have a laptop to fit just about any budget.

It comes with a DVD reader/ CD RW which can be upgraded to a DVD burner. It has 4 USB ports (my previous Inspiron only had 2), it has a port for SD cards, the cord is a bit longer than my previous model, so I have more freedom as to where I use it. The wireless is built in and makes it easier to use the internet anywhere there is wi-fi.

Overall, it is a good computer for a casal user.
...

I have had this dell inspiron 1501 laptop for two years I have never had any problems with my dell inspiron 1501 laptop. Although the battery life is not so great, at first I could use the laptop without it being plugged in for about one hour. Then, after about six months I could only use my dell inspiron notebook for about an half an hour and it needed to be charged. After the first year, I could not use it at all without keeping it on charge. Now it stays on charge all the time and if it comes unplugged it says it only has six minutes of battery life left and it does't even last the six minutes. But, overall I have never had any problems with my dell inspiron 1501 laptop. I would recommend it to anyone as long as the can get a replacement battery. The keyboard is very nice the buttons are not hard to push they are gentle and easy to type. The mouse is also very nice it is not too overly sensitive. So, I think everyone should own a dell inspiron.
...

I bought my Dell Inspriron 1501 back in 2003 to take with to college. It works great for general programs, pictures and music. The speakers could be a little louder for watching movies but it's also easy to plug in external speakers. It also seems to have a lot of space for storage, I've never had a problem with running out of space on the hard drive.

My biggest problem with the laptop is that at some point the battery stopped charging or holding a charge. Because I had the power cord I would just plug it in when I needed to use it. This was okay until the power cord wires were going bad. When I ordered a new one I also bought a new battery. However, my laptop will not recognize that there's even a battery connected. After returning the battery I continued to use my new power cord. Recently the connection between the powercord and laptop seems loose, so sometimes it won't start. The laptop is 6 years old and I get lots of looks like "when did you get that?" because...
...

So I've had the chance to try out the Inspiron 1501 from Dell and I must say that I'm both positive and negative about it.

Positive:

- Strong and resistant (a nice look, too): you won't have to be worry about breaking the screen in half or losing pieces of the integrated keyboard.

-Clear and bright screen: perfect for casual work (internet, e-mails, instant messaging).

-Nice online support: Dell is known for his excellent technical support in case you have any problems.

- His dual-core make it more comfortable when you have to open several applications (Office, web browser, instant messaging, etc.)

Negative:

- Overheat: yes, the heat it produces is like hell. I would recommend you to buy a cooling pad or something.

- The battery doesn't last very long unless you reduce the brightness of the screen and do not use applications that need too much power.

- Very bad for video games: you won't be able to play for more than 60 minutes since it automatically shutdown due to the massive...
...

Overall, the Dell Inspiron 1501 has proven to be a very effective and easy to use laptop. I purchased it roughly two years ago, it still runs wonderfully without a doubt. It's one of the fastest and functional computers I've had to date, complete with all of the traditional necessities you would need on a computer.

I've had a few bad experiences regarding the laptop, however, I expect that they are typical issues that most encounter with similar products. I purchased the laptop right as Windows Vista was first introduced, so I had some minor compatibility issues between the laptop and Microsoft's software itself. In addition, after extended use, the fan in the laptop started to run loudly as if it was hitting something inside. I researched the issue and determined it was common among laptops due to dust buildup and that it was easily resolved with canned air. After blowing the air into the fan area, it was back to running normally.

There are so many different things about this computer. I am not big on the windows vista yet, probably because I am still used to windows xp. One of the good features about vista is that when you scroll over ur items in the task bar it shows you a small picture of what it is you are looking at. But once you get used to it, it ain't too bad. The battery life is not very good and the bottom tends to get really hot so you have to buy a cool mat in order to save your legs.

It is a pretty good sized computer, big screen. It has very good memory at 2.00 GB, which the memory in laptops is getting bigger and bigger. There is a 64 MB hard drive, I do not think it is big enough so I had to opt to buy an external hard drive. As for the speakers, I think they could be a little bigger because it can be hard to hear unless you buy external speakers. I love fast computers, that I can do multiple things at one time. I also like playing games on the computer, therefore I feel this is a pretty good...
...

He was given a color choice and selected pink for me when he purchased the laptop online. Well, he waited and waited and waited till my birthday had come and gone and he had no gift for me! It turns out that the Dell factory was having trouble with painting the color on the laptops and there was a huge delay by several months. My husband decided to cancel my order and we went to Wal-Mart and purchased my Dell there with just the gray color on the top of the laptop. They weren't having trouble with the gray color but they were with certain colors like the pink, blue, white, etc. Also, another small problem that we ran into was that Vista was the only operating system they sold on the Inspiron's.

When I first received the computer the networking card didn't work. I had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers several times before they worked. This not something the average computer user would know or think to do. Early on, I noticed the DVD RW drive made some unappealing sounds and Dell tossed the concerned to the side. Months later, I was having more problems with the drive and they got it working again temporarily only for it to stop working yet again. Again I contacted them and instead of just replacing the drive as it was out of warranty, they did a temporary fix. A couple days before my warranty ran out I told them again that it wasn't working. They ignored me. I've reinstalled the original OS and have even run Linux on it but still have ROM problems. The only way to get it to work for a bit is to reinstall drivers and reset drive settings in the registry. I guess warranties mean nothing.
...
