The original movie is better, zombies that run are not as effective as the ones who slowly creep up on you....

apnorton says "A horrifying ,almost real life type of movie" about DAWN OF THE DEAD

This remake of Dawn of the Dead was very disturbing.Simply put ,an unknown virus from out of nowhere starts contaminating people who turn into flesh eating zombies and spread this virus by biting someone else(normal people). The scariest thing about this movie is the heroes being trapped in the mall ,and the zombies outside waiting for them. There's no hope it seems ,as almost everyone on the outside is a zombie.Could this actually happen in reality?Could the US Government let loose something on us citizens as an experiment? Who knows, but the plot of the film along, with the erie backround music as the heroes enter the mall, gave this movie an almost realistic feel. I wish i knew what happened at the end of the movie. Is their room for a sequel? By the way rent the dvd with the extras on it(special edition) you'll be surprised at what's on itl....

The first ten minutes of this movie are just BAM BAM!! It hits you so fast, you're wondering what happened and how did it get to that everyone is a zombie so fast??? Where did the virus come from and why do they turn so quickly??? Well that little girl was so creepy for 2 whole months afterward, i was just so scared to leave the doors unlocked. I'm such a horror fan, but I get so terrified that sometimes I just can't help but covering my eyes! I really liked this movie, it's just so hopeless and some people are just so lame!! But I liked it and I liked the way the characters were so warrior like, determined to make it, but against the overwhelming odds. I didn't like it that they did not make it and came to that island and there were other zombies there. That was they bad part....

ChrisJarmick says "The Zombie gore classic also is good social commentary." about DAWN OF THE DEAD

There's no denying for a moment that Night of the Living Dead is a true horror classic.

But this film was a truly shocking (to audiences in 1978), in color, and has a more interesting socio-political subtext.

It's also better acted and has more intentional humor.

The gruesome and still shocking gore is mostly confined to the first and last half hours as a group of people try to keep alive and work out a plan to restart society while hordes of flesh eating zombies attack the cities and in sheer numbers overhwelm the 'normal' population.

So a group of people intent on creating a new society try to sort things out in a shopping mall where they foolishly believe they will be relatively safe for at least a little while.

Comments on commercialism, greed and how far people will go to survive follow. The soundtrack features a fun but now dated Goblin score.

Originally the film was considered so shocking and gory it was denied conventional distribution and could not get a rating. It played at...
...
