My family of 4 went on a Carnival cruise in Oct '08. We cruised on Carnival Sensation. I had an 8 and 3 year old. Camp Carnival was AWESOME. The kids would get mad when I got them. There was so much for them to do that they never got bored. They have a great staff of very friendly people who take the time to get t know yorchild even if they are only with them for a few days. I would like to ass tat cruising is the best way to go for our family. We get all the food we want, shows, babysitting so the parents get some alone time, games, dancing, gambling...need I say more.
...

In order to keep in contact with one another, buy some walkie talkies & set them all to the same frequency. This allows your teens to have some autonomy but you can all stay in contact when needed.

Cruising is fun for the whole family. My wife & I have been on 6 cruises, and have taken our granddaughter on 2 cruises. She was 3 & 4 years old at the time, and loved it. She wants to go again. We are planning on another family cruise in 2009.

Crusing is a great family vacation since most everything is paid for. You have to pay for your drinks, tipping, excursions, & anything else you may buy on the ship. But over all everything is included in the price of your cruise. It is very relaxing.
...

Cruising Family Style was an awesome vacation. My teenage daughter and pre teen son both were busy from sun up to bed time. My daughter hung out at the teen dances and made friends the first night. My son had a blast in the arcades. We went snorkeling in Jamaica and both kids loved it. It was quite an experience. In Grand Cayman we went swimming with the sting rays and then shopping afterwards.

The service was great and the kids made great friends with our waiter. He convinced them to try things that I could never get them to try. My teenage daughter tried escargot and liked it!

A word of advice, if you are taking kids on a cruise, invest in two way radios. My kids were so busy that I had a hard time catching up with them. Oh, and buy them a soda card.
...

This is the best cruise line!! I would recommend this cruise line to anyone that would ask me. It is so much fun, and you don't have to do anything. You can just lay out in the sun while someone else cooks and cleans for you. You can get off the ship at the different ports of call or you can stay on the ship. If you stay on the ship it is so nice, and relaxing. There are not may people on the ship so you have a chance to just lay around and just be alone. This is one of the nicest cruise lines I have been on....

Ok, I'll give you my take on a cruise with a family. First of all, we like to take a 7 day cruise because it seems too rushed. Also, if the boat experiences engine problems, you will not be able to board the ship until it is fixed and they will skip ports to make up time. If you have never been on a cruise, you need to know a few basics. Make sure that if you are going out of the country, you have a pass port for all family members, you will not get on the boat if you do not have one. Checking in and boarding goes rather fast and the kids should not get too board. Once at the room, establish your rules but understand that the room and bathroom is tiny. Spend as little time as you can in the room and take advantage of the boat. The first thing we do is sign up for the refillable soda so we don't pay a lot of out-of-pocket expenses. If the couple likes to drink wine, take advantage of the offers for reduced wine packages. Other wise the cost will add up during the cruise. ......

I believe that for any family vacation to be a success, knowledge and preparation is the key and so I have put together a series of Q&A that will hopefully help clear up any questions or concerns about cruising

What documents do we need to have to board?
All U.S. citizens (including children and infants) need a passport. In some circumstances, a visa may also be required. If you do not have a passport, order one as soon as you book your cruise as it can takes weeks for it to arrive.

How long will the check in take?
This varies for each cruise line but be prepared to have a long wait time! You will first need to stand in line to check in with your tickets, ID and luggage. After checking your documents, you will be given a passenger card (one for each family member) that will get you into your room and serve as your identification for boarding and re-boarding the ship. This will have your photo attached - either right on the card, or coming up on the screen when scanned. It is also connected...
...
