misskarin323 says "Its not what it used to be!!" about Craigslist

The concept of the site is really great, but half the people on there SUCK!!

I first started using Craigslist about 3 1/2 years ago. I unexpectedly gotten pregnant with twin boys, and found craigslist while searching for deals on baby/infant products. I must admit, I was so thankful for finding the site. I have gotten so much stuff that was very gently used for a portion of the store prices. Plus everything was local, so it was very convenient.

Unfortunately, over the years, I have found many poor sellers on CL. A few times when buying toys that looked to be in great condition but were not working, sellers assured me that they just needed new batteries. When I get home and clean them up and go to replace the batteries, I find out that the old batteries exploded!! Which if you don't know, completely ruins the toy beyond fixing. Now, if this had happened once or maybe even twice, I would have given sellers the benefit of the doubt. I mean, how often do you look at the batteries...
...

moonridgeboy says "Great site, But beware at times" about Craigslist

Craigs list is a great site to find free stuff in your area and to buy things. But there are people who put false ads on. Be sure you get a phone number anddo not go alone. Always keep your head up high and eyes open. Most people are honest but there are those to take advantage of you. I do like the free searvice they give, Craigslist alone is a good site, its its user's who you must beaware of at times. Not all are scammers on the site. Good hunting to all.

Thank you.
...

windgoddess17 says "Craigslist Casual Encounters is nothing but a waste of time" about Craigslist

No I'm not some loser 40 year old man. I'm a young, in shape female in her 20s and a college student.

I was horny one afternoon and up for a evening of fun. I had no boyfriend and I had heard about craigslist and figured it was worth a shot. Man was I wrong.

I put out an ad stating that I wanted a student on campus and he must send a picture.

The ad wasn't up for more than a hour before I got at least 10 replies. None from students all from middle aged men that I had no interest in.

Some sent me copy/paste replies that they'd probably already sent to every female in that area. Others didn't send a pic like I had asked and wanted to see a pic of me first to confirm that I was "real"

One in particular kept persisting me even though I told him I wanted a student on campus. He told me that he was in a hotel right next to the campus. He claimed to be on business even though I think he probably stays there and scans the site all day hoping to try to hook up with a girl half his...
...

AngiBowman says "Find a Deal, Just Remember to Be Smart " about Craigslist

Ah, Craigslist - it's the Internet's way to give you a financial break. I've used it a number of time, and as long as you use your head, you're going to be safe and have a bargain in your hands!

What is It?

Craigslist is like the garage sale that never ends. Sometimes you're going to find a killer deal, while other times you just waste your money. You list items or services you have and other people offer to buy it or use it for your asking price or attempt to lower the price.

Real Use

I'll be honest here - Craigslist itself is a fine service. It's the free version of the classifieds that can be removed or put up without a problme. As far as sellers/buyers go, you can hit some interesting lots.

Some people think that their items are so rare and priceless that they deserve an absurdly high price. For example - a Little Tikes Kitchen circa 1990, rare to find now days, that could be yours for a low, low price of $75! Don't forget - it's rare.

Some people won't reply to your questions or phone...
...

I have visited craigslist many times and all but once was faced with nothing but nuts when using the site, regardless of what sections I was in. I just totally avoid it now to not have the stress of dealing with so many undesirables.
...

Ok, so the reason that I have rated Craigslist a 2 out of 5 is because I have had a few good experiences and a few bad. The bad outweigh the good...which I will now detail both.
Good: We looked online a few years ago when renting and we did find a few good posts that were actually nice houses with nice people wanting to rent them out. Where I live a lot of postings are usually college housing...but we were surprised to find good ones out there. Also...I have heard friends stories of finding furniture or tickets and they all turned out good.
Bad: I have two bad stories. 1 for me and one to someone else...I'll start off with that one that many people may have already heard of. A woman trying to be a nanny or babysitter (I cant remember which one) responded to a Craigslist ad and was murdered by the ad poster when she went for an interview at his home (and he was caught). Now onto my own story..... 2 years ago we looked for playoff hockey tickets on Craigslist and found many...
...

pitcherday says "Spammy, Scammy, but FREE so just use caution when posting" about Craigslist

The local newspaper outlet here - Mid Iowa Newspapers allows people to place five classified ads in their paper for free each month. On the few occasions I have wanted to sell something in the classifieds, I went to them for the free ads. Those are in print and on the web.

Then I found someone's cat. He was obviously an expensive Siamese cat. I made flyers and stuff (and put an ad in Mid Iowa), and I decided to also put an ad on craigslist.org to get the most exposure. It was one sentence, about nine words. I used the anonymous email address thing, and it has the "It is NOT OK to contact this poster.... blah"

I kept getting these emails from people "just wanting to talk," or saying that it looks like we'd have a lot in common. Unless you lost your cat, we have nothing in common. Then there are the "I'm sorry, I couldn't read your message. Do you need help?" emails designed to get you to reply and get on a bigger and better spam list. Also there were work form home and Acai Berry emails....
...

Craigslist staff flags items that you are selling when it should never be flagged. When a man goes to sell an honest product to make a honest dollar they flag it and take you ad down. I have seen even childrens moms asking for help get their ad flagged because some idiot decides that they don't deserve help. Some people are just sick. I am also discontinuing buying anything from e-bay because of it. Ebay owns 25% of Craigslist.org
...

WhateverMama says "Craigslist-Best Local Classifieds" about Craigslist

Craigslist is my favorite classifieds website to go to whenever I need to sell/buy something, find free stuff being given away, or job offers. I have gotten many great items from people in my neighborhood through Craigslist. It's pretty easy to get a reply back on your items being sold too. Craigslist has a ton more listings of classifieds than any other site. The downside is that they do end up getting a lot of spam offers and listings as well as people not deleting their listings when things are sold.
...

I started using Craigslist about 6 years ago and just can't get enough of it. I found out about the site from a friend because a wanted to get rid of an old sofa. Sure enough I posted it on Craigslist and it went in no time.

I prefer this to auctions sites because everthing I'm looking for in local. I bought my car through an ad on this site! I've sold a whole bunch of things from furniture to baby items. I've used this to find things in the area to do and also volunteered for things on here.

Few words of warning, don't waste peoples time! If you say you want something then follow through with it. Be patient, not everyone is a great computer user. Finally, yes there are some deals on there, but don't offer $10 for something listed at $100, you might not like the response.
...

I have been to Craigslist for job searches quite often. There are a lot of phishing and scam sites on there. You have to be real careful about replying to ads and sending personal information to any of the ads there. A majority of the ads end up being 3rd party sites that want you to big money to do a sales related job. Cons on this site are the fake ads and the phishing. The pros are there are people that will inform you of a bad ad when they come across it.
...

Craig's List has got to be one of the latest world wonders! It is an awesome way to find things you need (or think you need) in a relatively inexpensive manner.

Being able to "localize" your searches saves you a lot of headache in the long run... not much sense to be interested in an item that will cost you a fortune to have shipped or need to drive cross country to pick up.

It would be nice if there was a better way to police the rule violators such as the "dealers and stores" that continuely post their items in the everyday people categories.

All in all... Craig's List is awesome!
...

Craigslist will always be number one with me. I found our dog Georgia (a chocolate lab) in the free listings. She is now a service dog to my disabled child and only needed the slightest training due to her love and commitment to the child. The listings are well organized into categories to make your search easier as there are many listings on this popular site. There is also potential for scammers and fraud so use good common sense as you would in any situation and this site will have much to offer and save you a lot of time searching. It is easy to use and you can meet many friendly people while buying/selling items or browsing the free items or looking for a new job. You will find just a little bit of almost everything on Craigslist....
