caylee6166 says "This school is overrated, too expensive, and uncaring." about Columbia College Chicago

The only thing decent in this school are the teachers, who are well qualified and practiced on their profession. Unfortunately, the people who run the school and the main administrators are greedy and arrogant and care only about themselves and the school. Columbia College dropped my grants because they discovered my stepmother received some money in disability and considered it was paying for my education, even though she passed away from a deadly disease A YEAR AND A HALF BEFORE I WAS ENROLLED in this school. Even though I explained to them she was dead, her medical bills surpassed what she received in disability, I did not live with her, much less only spoke to her maybe once or twice a year, that I had taken out the maximum amount in loans that I could for the year, that I was paying for school all on my own, and that by doing this to me I would have to drop out of school, move back home and give up my dream my passion after working really hard just to get there, they looked...
...

renodsgnr says "Liberal arts in the heart of donwtown" about Columbia College Chicago

I graduated from Columbia several years ago so I can speak of my experiences from back then.....it was a good liberal arts school with the great asset that many schools are lacking - teachers that are actively working in the field that they are teaching about.
I have to admit that I had some terrible teachers because they were part time and didn't necessarily have the "teacher" qualities in them but I had just as many teachers that were very good. They really put a practical spin on projects and what life would be like outside of the 4 walls of the school. Simply put, they practiced what they preached.
Great school for graphic design, TV & broadcasting and photography!
...

Having been in higher ed since the 80's, Columbia College is where I'll finally graduate. I've taken over a dozen courses online and find them challenging and inspirational. Eight weeks goes quick, and you can't beat the commute in online courses. Texts are easily found on e-bay or book-byte and therefore I can afford the education.

Students are frequently active duty military, but also from all over the country and provide lots of different viewpoints.

I love it!
...

tillyann says "You get what you work for." about Columbia College Chicago

Columbia is not a place to go if you want to be pulled pushed shoved and prodded into doing what is necessary to exceed in your field. While the teachers are generally inspiring and have high expectations, the school itself is not going to hold your hand through your degree. You. Have. To. Work. For. It. Most of the teachers are working professionals in the art that they teach, providing real-life experience and usually allowing students to get experience with them. It's general admissions policy may seem like a catch-all for the people who couldn't get in anywhere else, however, once you get there you have to work as hard or harder to stay. With most degree programs requiring a c+ or better average and at least half the classes requiring a B average to advance to higher level coursework, they aren't joking around.

If you want a "university" type arts-education, go somewhere else. If you want to be immersed in your art in one of the biggest and most diversely cultural cities in the country...
...

icet123abc says "Its definatly an art school" about Columbia College Chicago

I believe that Columbia is for the die hard art student. If you are looking to meet great friends, you are sorely mistaken. There is a major lack of student cohesiveness and there is way too much politics going on behind the scenes. I graduated from columbia but I didnt like it there...
