As far as I know, Klonopin/clonazepam is the mildest of the benzodiazopines, a family of drugs that treat anxiety and include Xanax, Ativan, and a few others.

I began taking clonazepam after many years of being on Xanax. Xanax pretty much knocked me on my behind--I'd be sleep within minutes of taking it and groggy the whole next day. I needed something that would help my anxiety while still allowing me to function.

If I am feeling really, REALLY anxious, I can take clonazepam and go on with my day. But if it's night time, or I haven't been sleeping well, the drug will make me fall asleep. That may or may not be a good thing. I have used the drug just to help me sleep. However, it does not give me as bad or long-lasting of a hangover as Xanax did. I think what this drug does best is help me fall asleep when I'm tired, but I can't get my mind to shut off.

I should mention that I am very sensitive to drugs, and that the way I react to this drug may not be very common. Overall,...
...

madmorgh says "Klonopin has cured me in more ways than I can imagine!" about Clonazepam Klonopin

I've experienced severe anxiety since a very young age - my parents sent me to a few different psychologists as a child and again as a teenager, but they never seemed to have the ability to "cure" my nonstop anxiety. As I became an adult, the anxiety worsened and literally took over my life. I worried about everything all day and couldn't stop no matter what I tried. My anxiety had a mind of its own.

I eventually decided to see a psychiatrist who naturally diagnosed me with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). He originally prescribed Xanax, which I was on for about 5 years. It seemed to work well, but I gained a tolerance to it far too quickly and it became ineffective far sooner than I had hoped. I wasn't aware of other options at the time, so I continued to take it, mainly because it was a mental habit by that time.

After a few years, I finally mentioned to my doctor that it was pretty much worthless to continue prescribing it as it wasn't working anyway, and he asked me if I would...
...

mypointsbox says "Although it is addictive, clonazepam is by far one of the best a" about Clonazepam Klonopin

Klonopin (generically clonazepam) is a benzodizapine which is great for GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) or panic attacks. Klonopin .5mg tablets are perfect because an effective dose does not cause extreme drowsiness. This is not to say that they don't cause tiredness, but rather that they do not cause tiredness that makes daily life impossible.

I have been using Klonopin (both brand name and generic) for 4 years now. I currently use .5 twice per day, but I have been on as much as 4-6mg per day. At the lower dose, my symptoms of GAD have been under control and I have been able to live a normal life. Klonopin has been beter than many of the other benzodizapines that I have tried (Xanax, valium, tranxene, dalmane, etc). It has a long half-life which takes away the need for execessive dosing throughout the day, but unlike Dalmane, Valium, and tranxene, it does not have such a long half life where it begins to buid up over time, causing excessive drowsiness.

With all of that in...
...

I've been on Clonazepam for many years. Even after all this time I would have to say it really helps me get through the day. When I need to go out of my home and drive somewhere I'm not familar with I'll take 2mg instead of 1mg that I normally take in the morning. Have never had a problem being on this and think it's a great medication with really no side effects for me. I guess the only downfall is I'm probably addicted to this medication due to the fact I've been on it so long. I've asked my doctor if it should be changed but he keeps telling me no. Have been on others but this seems to help me the most.
...

PD53310761 says "KLONOPIN IS A POISON THAT WILL SENTENCE YOU TO A LIVING HELL!" about Clonazepam Klonopin

People may initially like Klonopin... when it helps them sleep better and offers some relief from anxiety - HOWEVER... There are many "caveats" to this very powerful drug. First very important note to keep in mind: Klonopin IS NOT MEANT FOR LONG-TERM USE. It just isn't; bottom line. It is highly addictive, even for those who do have a history of substance abuse problems. Don't kid yourself into thinking that it won't be a problem for you.

When you read the pro-Klonopin reviews that say, "Ooooh, I feel better now" and "Really makes things nice," you see that the "allure" is very deceiving. Those reviewers likely have not been taking it more than a week or so. This substance does not take long at all to cause you to develop a physical tolerance, and you will need your dosage increased for it to have the same effect.

Within weeks, others will begin noticing a marked change in your personality, cognitive abilities, memory problems, etc. - although you won't immediately notice them, because...
...

I was no this stuff for about a year and noticed no real change in any of my sypmtoms. This drug has been contreversial here in Portland because there was an explosion of "drug seekers" So when I got perscribed it I expected it to be a mircale drug and I would no longer suffer from panic attacks.

Perhaps I hoped for to much, some sort of quick cure. I was on 2 mg twice a day. I was just as antzy as always, the panic attacks didn't get worse but there was no noticable change. I think that this might work for some, but probably should have an understanding of your panic before trying this out. When they took me off it I stopped cold turkey, they wanted to slowly take me off it, but I just quit. It is my understanding that this pill can cause dependency in the body and I ahve heard that withdrawls are usually likely, I experienced no such thing however I have heard stories from people who just stopped and one even had to be hospitalized.

As with all pills like this I encourage...
...

Okay, let me say first that although I do suffer from mild panic attacks, I use this drug for anxiety. I am almost 50 years old. I am the unfortunate recipient of flawed family genes (medical issues). High blood pressure, migraines, depression, along with others. In my youth I do not recall having anxiety or panic. Over the last several years the panic and anxiety has increased greatly. I have three grandchildren that I take care of often. My 7 year old grand daughter is with me for several hours at least 4 days a week. She is a VERY well-behaved child. I still find at times I get anxious and cannot deal with her without losing patience. When I am at my grown son's hockey games, which I greatly enjoy, I often have to take this drug. The anxiety is overwhelming! I take half a tablet and within 20 minutes or so I feel so calm. It does not make me loopy, sleepy, or dizzy. I simply feel a sense of calm. Please beware! I hear this drug is very addictive. ...
...

I have had anxiety disorder for quite some time. My doctor's tried me on many different medicines but nothing ever really helped. I started to self medicate with cigarettes and was okay. When my Meemaw died of lung cancer (shirley-bellavia.memory-of.com) I quit smoking in her memory. Now, not only was my self-medication gone... but I was dealing with the death of someone VERY close to me... and I was there when she died which made death SO real to me. I was having panic attacks left and right and was miserable to live with.

ALL BETTER

Then my doctor prescribed Klonopin. Klonipin is my new cigarette basically... only I'm not addicted. I use it like an asthmatic uses a rescue inhaler basically. When I'm having a panic attack, I take one. A few minutes later I'm calm. A few minutes after that I'm either asleep or drooling. :) When I say that I'm not addicted I mean... I haven't taken one since June. So for those that take it daily, I can't really vouch for them. As a rescue med it works...
...

Clonazepam (also called Klonopin (brand) by Roche (and all other brands) is usually prescribed to treat panic disorder with or without agoraphobia. It is also used to treat certain forms of epilepsy (e.g., petit mal). It is infrequently prescribed for other forms of anxiety disorders.

Having been on the plethora of various AD's (anitdepressants) of all families (SSRI's, SNRI's, tricyclics, tetracyclics (and other variants), MAOI's and other types of conventional medications (and many 'cocktails') over the past 25+ years, I can no longer take AD's for my condition. I have attended years of therapy (CBT, visualization, counseling, etc. etc.) in conjunction with medications. My condition is severe and very chronic and the use of prescribed AD's has left me unable to take them anymore due to lack of efficacy and negative effects (including permanent increased anxiety due to usage and several instances of Serotonin Syndrome. My situation is quite unusual in the anxiety disorder community, due......

Klonipin is one drug in the class of benzodiazapans which act on the nervous system to calm and relax. The drug really does work, and very quickly, usually within 5 minutes even being taken orally. It promotes good sleep and a sense of tranquility, when used properly. One downside is that klonipin, like its cousins Ativan and Xanax has a noteriety of being habit froming and development of a tolerance. In my case I have not found this to be true as my dosage has not increased nor have I experienced any withdrawal sysmptoms when I have stopped taking the drug for a period of time. It does have a rebound effect on me if I quit taking it in that I have a very hard time getting back to sleep. As opposed to Xanax & Ativan Klonipin has a longer "half life" in which the drug begins, peaks, and and stops working. For this doctors will often prescribe Klonipin first, as the potential for addiction is somewhat lowered. This drug is very inexpensive, so may be a prime choice for those who have......
