MarkShuler says "Lame social networking site. Go to Facebook instead" about Classmates.com

Save your money and time. This site is ONLY about charging you the Benjamins with little of value in return. DO NOT upgrade to any of their premium packages - complete and total waste of money. If you want to find friends you went to high school with, use Facebook. It's free and and the social networking is superior to the lame features on this site. Again, this site is only about taking your money. Don't waste your time.
...

WyomingCathy says "Classmates.com is Deceptive and Crooked." about Classmates.com

On September 29,2009 I noticed a charge to my debit card from classmates.com. It was for the yearly gold membership. Problem was that I didn't authorize such a purchase. I had purchased a membership in 2008,and because of the economy decided to forgo it this year.

Went to their website and they sure know how to hide their contact information. Many clicks later I finally found a place to email. Told them to put the money back into my account. Here's their first response.

Hello Classmates Member, Thank you for contacting Classmates Member Care. We're more than happy to assist you.

**YOUR ACTION REQUIRED--PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW TO AVOID FURTHER BILLING**

We're sorry to hear that you don't wish to continue as a Classmates Gold member. While purchasing your Gold membership, you were provided with information just above the "Submit Payment" button explaining that all memberships are enrolled in our automatic renewal program. This automated billing process prevents any interruption...
...

Casey111 says "Classmates.com is a good way to reconnect with old pals" about Classmates.com

I joined Classmates.com to reconnect with old friends and find out where my classmates were and what they were doing. This site is not very expensive to join and I have enjoyed catching up with people I haven't seen and talked to in many years. The class I graduated with has not been good about having reunions every five years and I felt like I had missed something because of this. Classmates.com filled that need I had to "reunite" without having to attend a reunion.

I like the fact that you can get in touch with others who were younger or older in your school, not just the class you graduated with. The site also has games you can play if you enjoy computer games. Recently, the site had a Disney World Sweepstakes where you could win a trip for 12 to Disney World in Orlando. You got entries for completing parts of your profile, which is something most people do any way, on the site.

Classmates.com has definately been fun!
...

I have been a "Gold Member" of Classmates.com for 6 years. I have had a problem with logging on for three months. I have contacted them through email and have yet to get the problem resolved. I am an attorney and will be happy to file a class action on behalf (at no charge) for anyone else that will like to join me demanding a Full Refund....

My husband has a classmates account and just the other night had someone sign in on his account. When he went to find out who it was he was disscouraged to find out that he had to upgrade to get it. This is crazy, even the weatherbug doesn't ask for money and you can find the weather ANYWHERE!! Find a sponsor or something, don't make people trying to find old classmates pay to find their old friends. Times are hard enough as it is. I recently moved out of my home state and would love to find people i knew there that are now moved like we did. Pressure is bad enough now a days, there shouldn't be any pressure about money to find friends!!...

usnnc says "Had fun until I became a GOLD member" about Classmates.com

Well, I wish I had read the reviews here before I took the plunge and got my gold membership. I had a long and happy relationship with Classmates.com - a good 10yrs - until I gave them my money.

The good and the free: I saw names of classmates. It was nice to know they were still around. Depending on how much interest the site wanted to generate, I could read summaries of their lives since school, or college or the military, and for a while I could see pictures. I still go to the site to see if anyone has joined or changed a name - whatever. Latest incentive is an option to send a note, even if you are not "GOLD". The site lets you know that the message will be public - available for all to read. I sent a couple that have gone unanswered. I should have let that be enough.

The bad: Some of the interest lists are so totally dorkey. There's a lot of room for messages and reunions, but can you really see everyone planning a reunion for the whole world to see? Yes, use the lists for......

GowerMeower says "Good idea that has jumped the shark due to greed" about Classmates.com

I was one of the first to join classmates over a decade ago. I was busy planning my 20 year high school reunion and after almost 2 years of hard work, and being listed as the event contact, Classmates opted to remove me and place one of their advertisers in my place (Reunions of America, or such) and refused to change it. Then I was constantly being hit up to upgrade and spend more and more money for their site, which never offers anything extra. Yes, it was fun to reconnect about 10 years ago, but now it's easier to do that without this service, and yet they have not evolved. They are only interested in taking $ and not giving any substantial service in return. They should revisit their business plan as I am sure they are losing members and website visits. I would not subscribe for any of their so called "premium" services. Not worth it....

I had a free membership with Classmates for some time. However, I was unable to send email messages to former classmates and use other functions on the site without buying a premium membership. I upgraded and was sorry I did. I felt it was a total waste of my money. The info I did obtain about former classmates was way outdated and not of any use to me.

Once you have a free membership, you are going to get gobs of email advertisements trying to get you to pay for an upgraded membership. They entice with lines such as, "Someone visited your profile...." They get you thinking that you might hook up with someone from the past and you end up buying the premium membership. Then, you find out that the person who visited your profile is someone you never heard of.

I do not recommend this site to anyone.
...

It has been very easy to find my high school friends and nice to be able to stay in touch through Classmates. The best part about is they have updated the site and added new features. You can find out where your friends are located on a map and how far they are from you. I've been happy to see my friends and what their lives have turned out even if it is through Classmates....

Bryan-Carey says "Who Really Should Have Been Selected "Most Likely to Succeed"?" about Classmates.com

School carries special memories for many people and some have been known to contact former school mates whenever possible in order to reminisce about days gone by and share some personal moments relating to the past. For many, getting in touch is as simple as calling or e-mailing old friends that have been in one's contact list since graduation. But for others, reliving old times isn't so simple because there is no way to find former classmates. Thanks to the internet, this problem is slowly becoming a thing of the past and one web site designed exactly for this purpose is Classmates.com, a web service for keeping in touch with former high school and college chums.

Web Site Commentary:

Classmates.com helps members stay connected with various services. New members start out by identifying their schools and entering some personal facts about themselves to share with others. There are many questions that can be answered, but not all questions have to be answered. Members can pick and choose...
...
