I usually pay my credit card balances off in full every month. I have never made a late payment to AAdvantage or any other card. One month I had to leave a $1500 balance on this card (around tax time) and thought, oh well, 13.24% on $1500 is only about $17.00 for the month, no big deal. I paid off the balance in full the next month. They charged me a total of $87.88 in interest over 2 months for leaving this balance of $1500 for one month.

That is actually somewhere around 65% interest. This company is a lying, cheating, den of thieves. If you don't want to get ripped off, stay away.

I cancelled this card and will never do business with American Express again. Ever.

I love this card. Finally, for the first time, I can have an Amex that gives me AA miles. And the large enrollment bonus was a great extra....

While the hay day of American Express is long since passed, their attempts at reviving their once rock solid must for the traveler have launched with a pretty darn good offer. 25,000 bonus airmiles to your American Airlines frequent flyer account if you spend $750 USD in the first 4 months, (offer accessible at aa.com online). Not a bad deal when you consider that 25,000 airmiles is a round trip domestic ticket.

Another travel bonus that's offered through American Express and American Airlines is a list of destinations published four times a year with reduced mileage travel awards, and offer travel discounts of 7500 less airmiles for destination travel. Not a huge discount, but maybe enough to get you over the top for award travel, if the list contains somewhere you want to go.

While the travel perks are not bad, the interest rate is nothing to shout about, and if you can't pay off your balance on a monthly basis, I'd pass on this one. However, if you don't spend more than you...
