Willy Wonka has decided to give five random youngsters a special treat. The reclusive candy maker has decided to give these five a tour of his chocolate factory, a place that has been off limits to everyone except Willy and his staff for years. In addition, Willy (Johnny Depp) will give one of these youngsters a special prize. All these children have to do is find one of the five golden tickets that Mr. Wonka has placed in packages of his products to be eligible.

"Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" tells the story of the pursuit and the trip the children get to take. A boy named Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) watches televised coverage of the golden ticket pursuit as each ticket is found. Augustus Gloop (Philip Wiegratz) doesn't stop eating his chocolate, even as he shows his ticket to the world. Veruca Salt (Julia Winter) gets hers because her father (James Fox) has purchased a massive amount of candy to get a ticket. Violet Beauregarde (Annasophia Robb) secures her visit by switching...
...

This movie is the worst thing I have ever had the displeasure of watching. They ruined that movie. The original is great. this one however is a joke. It has very bad acting and they didn't even change it up! I would not waste 2 cents buying or watching this crap ever again. Just because technology is advanced now that doesn't always mean it is better.
this review is for charlie and the chocolate factory....

I thought this would be great since it had Johnny Depp in it, and I'm a big fan of him, but I was wrong. I thought this version focused too much on Willy Wonka and less on Charlie than it did before. I didn't really like how the Oompa Loompas were just the one guy, even though he was pretty funny in some parts. This version also seemed a lot darker-minded than fun and imaginative like the original. I am usually a fan of remakes or different takes on original movies, but this one lacked to me....

vivasuzi says "Best at the IMAX, but still a good watch regardless!" about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 2005

I couldn't wait to see this movie. Having grown up watching Willy Wonka over and over, I was excited when this came out. I was even more excited to hear it was playing at the IMAX. The anticipation was so great that I knew it would either be fantastic or a great disappointment. Luckily it exceeded my expectations.

I cannot write this review without comparing it to the original (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory -1971), therefore, I plan to throw in some comparisons throughout. I will refer to the original movie as WW1. FYI - I have never read the book.

Plot
Willy Wonka loves candies of all sorts. He was becoming the greatest candy man of all time when suddenly spies started to infiltrate his organization. They were stealing recipes for things like chewing gum that let you blow huge bubbles and other treats the kids could not resist. Because of this, he closed his factory - never to be open again...

Charlie is a boy who also loves chocolate, although he only gets it once a year on his birthday...
...

I first saw this movie not expecting very much because I never liked the original movie much. However, Johnny Depp was in the movie and because I beleive he is a good actor I decided to see it.

I was excited when I learned about Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I rarely go see a movie in the theater, but this was an exception. I also bought the DVD when it became available. The original movie was excellent - but so was this one! It's very different, and I think it deserves to be judged as such. It would have been really lame if Johnny Depp had simply tried to copy Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka. He made the character his own. i recommend that it be watched with an open mind. No, it's not like the original. In some ways it's even better. And then there's the Oompa Loompa songs... but no remake can ever be perfect, I guess. ...

Ugh! This movie was horrible. From the rapping Oompah-Loompahs, to Johnny Depp's idiotic portrayal of Willie Wonka, this movie was a real disappointment. Sure, it may have had some cool special effects, but it can't make up for the rest of the show. The whole thing was miscast - who really cares about any of these people? We're supposed to at least care about little Charlie Bucket and his family, but the performances were so flat, it was hard to do so.

I had to apologize to my children for making them watch this. We turned on the original with Gene Wilder and are currently reading the book together. Anything to get that bad movie out of our minds!
...

Director Tim Burton took a crack at remaking the1971 Gene Wilder movie "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and created 2005's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in which five children from around the world are given the chance to enter the Chocolate Factory by finding a Golden tickets hidden in chocolate bars.

With his "Finding Neverland" co-star Freddie Highmore as Charlie, Johny Deppp plays the eccentric Willie Wonka, owner and creator of the world's greatest candy company who lives in an amazing factory with excitement behind every door and staffed by an army of intriguing and mysterious workers, the Oompa-Loompas, (played by Deep Roy) who sing messages to the visitors and the viewers. This new version is actually closer to author Roald Dahl's book upon which both movies were based and shares the same name as the 1964 book. The music created by Danny Elfman(voice of Oompa-Loompas singing) help to bring this timeless book to a new audience in a humourous yet serious way. I......

Tim Burton's updated version of Roald Dahl is a colorful well paced film with a tour de force performance by Johnny Depp as the odd-ball candy man, Willy Wonka.

Charlie Bucket (played by Freddie Highmore who was in Finding Neverland with Depp as well) and his family are so poor they live in crooked house with a huge hole in the roof that lets snow fall inside. Parents (Noah Taylor and Helena Bonham Carter) and four bed ridden grandparents (Granpa Joe is played by David Kelly) barely avoid starvation by eating cabbage soup and tell stories that include once upon a time working for the hermit like chocolate maker, Willy Wonka.

Wonka became very paranoid about getting his special candy recipes and inventions stolen by workers, that he nearly automated his factory.

Wonka announces that five lucky children will be allowed into his factory. There are five golden tickets hidden in his chocolate bars. Find one and take a tour of the factory.

Most of the kids who win, are spoiled,...
...
