Sealover says "Repeated propulsion problems on Summit have never been solved." about Celebrity Cruises - Summit

Celebrity Summit has had propulsion problems for years. They've never been fully resolved. To add insult to injury, even though one "pod" failed and caused us miss a port, we paid almost $300 in "fuel supplement" at a time when oil prices were historically low. A Celebrity agent told me that this is because they bought large amounts of fuel when prices were high and they were still using it. Nonsense! No doubt they did the same when prices were low, but they were quick to add those fuel supplements when prices went up!

On our 14-day Mediterranean cruise, we were sorely disappointed. This was my ninth cruise, having sailed Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, Holland America, Princess (2), and Celebrity twice before. The quality was just not there. I have never had a substantive complaint about any of the previous eight cruises to Hawaii, Canada, Alaska, Northern Europe, the Caribbean and Mexico.

The food on the Summit was absolutely abyssmal: tough meat, "fishy" fish, and an array of soups...
...

I put this somewhere else - but I thought it's more fitting here in this category:

What can I say, in summer of 2007, we took a Celebrity cruise aboard the Summit that went from Seward, Alaska southbound to Vancouer, British Columbia. I absolutely loved it. I was not looking forward to it prior to going because of various reasons, including the possibilty of getting seasick. But from the start, our luggage had no problems making it to our room. Our room was on the penthouse deck (which is the 3rd deck down with rooms), so we were able to check-in in a special line. The ship was very well kept, the wait staff for the dining was great, the waiter for a dinner was great, and the room staff was great.

We did have a balcony in our room so it gave us another option to enjoy the scenery while at sea without having to leave our room. The ship sightsee'd Hubber Glacier the first day (the weather was not great there) but we were allowed to go to the front of the ship where the helipad was to view it....
...

Two years ago we went on the Carnival Liberty. This year we decided to try the Celebrity Summit. This was a 2-week Panama Canal cruise; however, though the Panama Canal may have been the highlight, the ship stopped at many ports making this itinerary excellent. I won't get into any significant details of the ports now since I'm reviewing the ship but hopefully I'll get to our excursions. The ship left from Los Angeles, CA and arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Summit at 965 feet was made for the Panama Canal which can hold a ship no longer than 965 feet. To give you an idea of how big that is it's longer than the length of three football fields. The Celebrity Summit weighs 91,000 tons. It holds a little over 2,000 passengers. There are 900 crew some of whom serve 9,000 meals a day.

Given that it is now 6 ½ years there was some wear and tear but not enough for the ship to look anything but beautiful. I heard that it was going in soon to get some renovations done. The bathrooms could......

My husband and I looked forward to our large family cruise to Alaska on the Celebrity cruiseline for over a year. We had a large group of about 30 people, many of them being very wealthy, not including ourselves. We were the youngest of the group and on a number of cases not treated with respect from the Celebrity staff. On one occasion my husband was verbally assaulted by one of the drunk entertainers abord the Summit. I had heard such wonderful things about the cruiseline's service and attention to detail, and the reality fell very short of their reputation.

Alaska is the most beautiful place I have ever seen and would love to return. It is unlike any other place, so pristine and pure. However, I recommend not visiting Alaska on a Celebrity ship. I know I never will again, because the furthest way that we were treated was of a celebrity status.
...

The best service I've ever encountered. Fantastic food available almost constantly.
My only complaint is that they do the "hard sell" with all of the photos they take of you everywhere you go and they charge extra for some things that other cruises would comp, like aerobics classes. We had a GREAT time in the casino and even came out ahead!

I was hesitent to do a cruise. I thought I'd feel trapped, and that the rocking of the boat would make me sea sick..and nervous! I was wrong on both counts. The inside passage cruise was only far enough from land on the very last night, and even that was not that bad!
...

We have been trying to salvage our Celebrity cruise as my husband had a medical emergency. Rathe then being helpful, they have been very difficult. They have continually lied to us, not honored pricing they quoted even after the reservation was changed, and charged excessive fees when they told us that if we transferred to another cruise we would not be charged fees. Our TA and ourselves have been trying for 2 weeks now to straighten this mess out, but it just keeps getting worse. Everytime we get a different story. We aren't getting any service, even though we are a frequent cruiser with RCI and Celebrity. Just warning others that Celebrity really doesn't care if you travel with them or not. That is sure how they are treating us. Anyone else have problems with cruise lines not honoring their word (written or oral?)...
