The Canon S2-IS is a great camera for what it is. I know it is a little old by now, I think they're up to S7-IS or something by now, but I would suggest this or anything in the S-IS series. It is only 5 MegaPixel (which is what they're making some cell phone cameras by now) but that is no big deal as long as you're not planning to blow any pictures up bigger than 8x10. It is good for a family camera, a little bulky, so it's more for the amature photographer. Not necessarily something you can pop into a purse and run, although I used to carry mine around that way.

A few negatives about it:

You can't adjust the focus manually.
The lens cap often pops off.
Low megapixel
Not too good for fast moving subjects unless you know what you're doing (no sports mode)
Not too good in the dark

I have a few positives also:

Smaller than most SLR cameras so for the amature photographer it is a good choice.
Pull out flash included with adjustable flash distances.
Works as a video camera.

I'LL talk about Canon SX20IS. I shoot all kinds of stuff with all kinds of cameras. I am a working photographer who shoots for advertising and corporate client as well as to make images for my own books about photography. Over the last two years I've been using small cameras like the Canon G10 and the SX10 for more and more of my work. In the studio, shooting set up shots or small products these cameras shine by dint of their easy to use Live View and increased depth of field. When I bought the SX 10 it was for the long range of the zoom lens which meant I could shoot anything from a construction site to tight shots of the cabins at the top of the construction cranes. I've done some portraits with studio lights and an SX10 and they were also very usable. I wish the SX 10 and SX 20 had raw file capability but they don't. That just means I have to be a bit more careful about WB and exposure. I've used the SX10 at outdoor swim meets and found that the lens performs better than expected right...

I love my Canon PowerShots! The Canon PowerShot S2 IS was supposed to be an easier to use version than what I already had. The pictures it produced were amazing. I like how the flash does not pop up automatically, but instead the little indicator on the swivel-out LCD screen flashes red when you need to manually open the flash. The user-friendlyness of this camera was not as obvious as other Canon models I have owned in the past, and I actually had to read the manual to figure out what a lot of stuff was. If I hadn't been familiar with Canon already, I'm pretty sure I would have been confused. And then came the fateful day when I got the black screen...we were at Disneyland so it could have been worse, but I always carry a back-up camera. The screen went black, and told me that the batteries needed to be changed. Fine. I changed the batteries, took two pictures and the screen went black and told me to change the batteries again. I thought the extra batteries were bad,...

The canon powershot is an amazing camera for an amature or someone who just wants to chronicle their lives or their childrens lives. It takes amazing pictures with very little effort from the user. The powershot has many different shooting options to ranging from manuel to action, of course it also has auto. It has a timer to help capture those family photos. It is a bit heavy but the quality of picture makes you forgot that.

The Canon Power Shot IS is a good camera. It takes good pictures but the manual is in such fine print and so voluminous that it is painful to have to find how to make use of all its features.

The Cannon IS2 is an older camera than what is circulating now, but it still provides great assurance for those perfect shots. I love taking photos of everything. There is not a place I go that I don't have my camera attached to me. I am always ready, with an extra sd card and it is so easy to plug right into my pc to dowload all the pics. They download quickly and I can get right back in the game! One button to turn the camera on and you are ready to shoot! There are alot of other buttons to adjust all kinds of different settings, for the more advanced photographer. So many different things you can do with your shots. You can even take movies. Using a large gig card, you can upload a 15 minute video, with good quality. The possible only downside, is that it takes 4 AA batteries, which weigh the camera down. I love this camera and have ever since I bought it. It takes amazing photographs without the use of additional attachments like lens and lights. It has 9mp which delivers beautifully clear pictures and large size photos to use on the computer. There are so many different features to use which is still something I have to learn and figure out for them all but I am looking forward to it. I recently took it to a concert and we sat far away from the stage, I used the zoom with both the photos and video and it zoomed all the way right up to the performer. The video was so clear it was like HD quality. The size is kinda big but that is due to the size of the lens that needs to fit inside the camera because of the large zoom. The only thing that does bother me a little bit is that it takes AA batteries which doesn't last too long but I bought the canon rechargeable batteries and with that everything is good. I am so pleased with this camera and would definitely recommend it to everyone.

This camera was worth the money...we had bought 2 other cameras before this one and they only lasted a year...This one is 3 years old and it works great. We havne't had any trouble at all with it....

I have not found a more dependable camera with the features and optical zoom as the Canon S2 IS. It has provided everything I needed while being easy to use for a novice....

The Canon S2 IS is a wonderful entry level camera that can be handled by both beginners and pro's alike. I have used it indoors and outdoors and had great success. It has many wonderful features that allow you to navigate it like you know what you're doing. The 12x zoom is amazing and has allowed me to capture intimate details of birds flying in the air and stuff on top of skyscrapers from miles away. The hinged LCD is great and I personally love the macro zoom function which allows me to get within centimeters of an object and capture its finest details. Great camera!...

I really like this camera-- I do have to say though that it has raised my standards and has made me really want a digital SLR. I think that with 3 kids under 5 (yes, 2 are twins) that it truly takes a DSLR to keep up with them. But this camera comes close. For the novice to intermediate user I think that most would be happy. I love the video feature-- much better than most digital cameras in this pricwe range....

this camera is great. the instructions are easy to follow even for someone like me who doesnt know alot about technology. the camera helps you take pictures like a professional. easy and versitile. i dont leave home without it and everyone i know comments on how great my pictures turn out and the great design of the camera. its easy to carry around the design meks it seem almost a part on you when you are holding it....
