patterson84 says "Good for the money Canon" about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera

Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

I have now taken almost 10,000 images with this camera and it has been very dependable. Great pictures with adequate light. I wish it had better low light sensitivity and the articulated lcd screen. Both of these issues have been addressed with the new G11 model. I expect to upgrade soon. The small size for such capability is important to me because I need a camera I can carry with me at all times and not feel burdened with the weight of it as I did with my Canon FT QL 35mm film camera years ago. One major complaint is that the labeling of the buttons like MENU, white ink on the black surface, easily wears off with use. I used clear nail polish which delayed the wear but not eliminated it.
...

TomCworld says "SLR functionality in a portable form factor" about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera

The Canon G7 is an older model, but is just as good as the new G series models. It has many of the functions that many love in a SLR, but in a portable form factor. It does not support interchangeable lenses, but you can attached adapter that can allow for telephoto, fisheye, macro attachments. This particular model does not support Raw, but the new models do. It is equipped with a 2" vibrant screen that presents shoots very accurately. Most controls are conveniently position in scrolling dials that are easy on the fingers. The pictures can be shoot up to 10 mega pixels and video can also be taken at 30 frames per second. It supports SD cards, I've used 8GB class 4, but may be able to accept larger capacities.

The negatives with this device is mostly in it's price. It retails for $499 and can probably be found for 350ish since it's an earlier model. The weight of the camera may also be a turn off. It's a bit heavy for it's size and for frequent users, it may bring hand fatigue.

Overall,...
...

prin12s says "I love the canon powershot's ease of use!" about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera

I love my canon powershot. It is easy to use and comes with many great features. I like that I can select individual colors or throw them out and shoot in B&w. It's a little big, but for me (I have a "big" pro camera too) it seems small. I wish I could use it for all my photo shoots. It doesn't have high mp, that's the down side. LOVE the zoom!...

Well I had a different canon powershot and it got messed up at the ocean. We decided to get another one the same brand just a little different and we love it more than the first! This camera takes great pictures and I am no experienced photographer. The colors are great and it is well worth the money spent IMO....

I had the G6 before this camera and it had a flip viewfinder that I absolutely loved. I could throw the camera in my purse and not worry about scratching the viewfinder. This one doesn't have that. It does have a bigger window though. It takes great pictures. At 10mp's, it's hard not to get a good shot....

bkovacs says "Not the perfect compact camera but we're getting close." about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera

I've been looking for the perfect compact camera, one that is small enough to easily carry but powerful enough to take excellent pictures. So far, the Canon PowerShot G7 comes close... very very close.

Bottom line: It's a buy, even if it is expensive. However, there is still room for improvement.

What It Is

The Canon PowerShot G7 is a compact digital camera with 10 megapixels of resolution. It has a 6x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD screen that can be used as a viewfinder or to review shots. The G7 is a little big for a compact camera and it strains the upper limit of the "compact camera" category. It will fit in a jacket pocket but will not go in a pants pocket. It is hefty but it's a solid-feeling heft that gives the impression of high quality.

The G7 takes a proprietary battery that is not cheap -- I bought a spare battery for $51. The basic camera comes with a battery, charger, neck strap and a skimpy 32 MB SD card for picture storage. I found the neck strap to be too...
...
