I bought this at age 10 as a first serious camera.

Now I'm 13 and have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi. (See my review here.)

The A630 served me very well by getting me hooked on photography.

I chose this camera because it, like all the Canons, is very easy to use and well-designed. Also because it, when I bought it at least, was a pretty powerful camera, for a compact.

Pros:

8 MP is pretty good, even for today. It's certainly adequate for full-page prints.

4x Optical zoom is very good for a compact these days.

The Vari-Angle viewfinder is great and very useful.

This has an optical viewfinder, which most newer compacts lack.

The IS works well.

The video recording function is pretty good.

This camera, unlinke many newer cameras, has full manual control: ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, Flash. It has M, Av, and Tv modes, as well as the automatic ones.

This uses SDHC cards, up to 32GB, instead of some of the more archaic card specifications (mspro, cf, etc.).

I am a photoaholic. I've always enjoys taking photos, scrapbooking and framing. As a Mom of two gorgeous children, it is hard to just not be snap happy. My prize camera for taking my Christmas card photos or Easter portraits is my Canon Digital Rebel XS However the PowerShot A630 is a great camera that produces above average photos. There are times, like when horseback riding or touring New York city, that I don't want the weight or the expense of my Canon Digital Rebel XS strapped on but I still want to be able to get great photos. That's when the PowerShot A630 is the perfect camera.

The Canon PowerShot A630 has 21 shooting modes, including video, with 8 mega pixel resolution.

You do have to purchase a memory card and it also needs four AA batteries.

What I really like about the Canon PowerShot A630:

It's so lightweight- under a pound. It has a wrist strap and it is easy to carry or lightweight enough to throw in your purse.

This is a great camera. The colors turn out true (not too bright or dark) and is easy to use. I highly recommend for any beginner. This is failry comparable to the Nikon L2/L3. The Canon PowerShot A630 is great to take on vacation (I took this out west and took thousands of photos on it)....

I have had several digital cameras and the Canon PowerShot A630 8 Mega-Pixel digital camera is the best one I have ever owned. It's a step above the 500 series Canon digital cameras. Pay a little more and you get better pixel resolution and more features. It has so many of the bells and wistles that a novice such as myself would want and the monitor walks one through using them. I tried the stitch mode for a panarama of the volcano in Maui (sorry can't spell the name) and the stitched photo came out great. The night mode worked really well for sunsets etc. My only negative is that the book could do a little better in explaination for example how to use the focus points. I have been looking for a more detailed book but so far no luck. I absolutely recommend this especially for novice. Pros: - Easy to use - Manual Controls - Great shots - Affordable Price Cons: - Focussing takes time - Zoomed in shots are sometimes blurry or grainy - Flash based pics are good but not exceptional -......

The Canon Powershot is my favorite camera to date. There are a lot of different setting to mess with and it's super easy to operate. Usually I'm a believer in what you pay for is what you get, but this camera was priced very reasonably-under $200. The internet has many how-to helps as well.

I purchased my Canon Powershot camera in July 2008. I am a member of a motorcycle club and my group travels through many states during the summer riding season. For years I would purchase the disposable 35mm cameras. I would take quit a few photos and found myself storing the cameras and never developing the photos. On the rare ocassions when I would remember to take the cameras in so that the photos could be developed, I would almost have to take out a personal loan to pay for all of the extra copies that were needed for all club members. With my new Canon Powershot, I am able to download the photos daily to my lap top and forward all of the photos to my club members within hours of taking the photos. I don't know how I ever lived without my Canon Powershot. The camera comes with a memory card, but I upgraded my memory card so that I could store more photos. Batteries were also included, but I bought the rechargeable batteries. ...

The Canon PowerShot A630 offers the features of more expensive cameras with a price you can afford. I've had mine for over a year now, and at the one year mark it has held up surprisingly well to little fingers, being dropped, and the works when you have little children around. However, smaller things are starting to go, and the manual can be a little challenging to figure out at times. Otherwise, we are happy with the product, happy with the warranty process, and happy with our Canon PowerShot A360 and would recommend it to others.

I've gone through many digital cameras and this one is the best one I have owned. The picture quality is magnificent. The camera is very user friendly and is fairly small and compact. The swinging lcd screen makes hard shots so much easier to get. I won't go with any other camera.

My mom purchased this Canon Power Shot camera for me for Christmas. It was to replace my Canon film camera. It is easy to use! I was taking great pictures right from the start. I love the big screen to view pics. Others (cameras) have much smaller viewing screen. The videos are great quality though take up a lot of space on the memory card.

I have the Canon EOS Rebel XT slr digital camera and love it. But, I was looking for something smaller to keep in my purse or use when I don't want to lug around a big slr camera. I got the Powershot A630 and it is great! It has all the features of my slr in a small camera. One of the reasons I got this camera is the lcd screen flips and turns all the way around. The camera is also great on batteries (it takes 4 AA), they last a really long time. The video is also high quality. The camera has a lot of features: different camera settings & colors. I highly recommened this camera!...

i love this camera, was a replace for my sony 3 megapixel camera, i really love this for being lightweight, high pixel size, greater optical zoom and also digital zoom and all with a such a low price. I cant believe, with this camera i really think that techology advancements lead to price reduction. Different kind of modes in the camera is also really handy and lets me capture the night shot, moving shot and all other great stuffs....
