i bought this camera as an upgrade to my Canon Rebel. I initially chose it because of the base price, which is quite reasonable for a professional camera. The kit lens isnt bad, but I upgraded my lenses after having the camera for about a year.

The camera is super easy to use, and is a great value for intermediate photographers
...

Meyereh says "Canon 40D is a Great camera " about Canon - 40D

My husband an I were one of the first to purchase the Canon Digital Rebel when it first came out. After many faithful years of service we decided to retire the Rebel and move up to the Canon 40D. The only thing that had gone bad on the Rebel was the shutter, and the 40D offered a shutter warrentee as well as a more sturdy body. It also has the new processor and many of the features that have come out in the years since the Rebel was first put on the market. The larger LCD screen for viewing images is great and I love the scroll wheel for navagating through pictures. The image quality is amazing. I am suprised at how easily I can pick out pictures taken from this camera versus pictures taken from my old Rebel or our more compact digital Minolta. I am also loving the fast fps rate. I always felt like I was missing important shots waiting on my Rebel to catch up. With the 40D, I am sure to capture every shot I want. I like the Canon brand and was able to use all of my existing lenses......

The Canon 40D is a amazing camera. The color on this baby and the features it has is amazing for a beginining amateur photography. The 40D is great even when you want to go it professionally. It's easy to see the pictures, and not to mention the Image Stabilization helps alot when it comes to taking photographs. It is also great for portrait photographs, and is easy to learn quickly. I've never seen a camera that takes such good photos for a new photographer entering the field. This by all means is a good camera!
...

Love my Canon 40D. Read the reviews of the new 50D that came out and I can't justify the spending the extra casht o upgrade...it just doesn't offer that much more than the 40D. The 40D takes wonderful pictures for both the hobbyist and amateur photographer. Provided you get decent glass, you won't be disappointed in this camera....

I traded up from the Canon 20D to the 40D and I think on of the best improvements is the larger viewfinder. As with the pre vious model the 40D is eas to use and now has auto sensor cleaning. All lenses and accesories you may have had before can be used with this camera.
The auto focus works well, the menu is user friendly.
My only complaainy is it is a little heavy, but I think this is true of most DSLRs.
...

The Canon 40D is a great upgrade from the lower level Canons (xt, xti). It has a solid, well built body with 2 dials that help to change shutter speed and aperture quickly. Put a great Canon L series lens with it and you'll be taking pro quality pics in no time at all. If you are uprgading from the xt it will take some getting used to as it is a lot heavier. It has performed great in every situation I've been in so far....

I upgraded from a 20D and a 10D before that. Each time Canon has added improvements that made it worth the upgrades. I don't use all the features because I just haven't taken the time to learn them all. So for someone who wants incredibly great pictures of fast moving wildlife animals, this camera is perfect. It makes me look like a pro by just using the standard features!...

After shooting for over 25 years, I just bought myself a Canon 40d DSLR with a 28-135 telephoto zoom lens and I love them both. For years I carried a Canon XT DSLR with the standard 18mm to 55mm lens and a 70mm to 200mm L lens for backup, but I find the 40d puts me in a whole new world as far as my photographic reaches. Fast, efficient, very well made, and an LCD screen actually big enough to review photos and assess details without having to search for my reading glasses. The ISO can be adjusted to need, and the automatic flash can be disabled as required for shooting specifics. This is particularly handy for museum shots, or in low light situations. The 10.1 megabyte aspect of the camera makes isolating particular areas of your photos for a full frame quality picture a breeze. Camera adjustments for aperatures and speed can be easily accomplished, even while on the run.

After about a week I had begun to feel comfortable with the camera, and after reading a multitude...
...

Simply put, the dynamic Range on this body is awesome. Perhaps the deepest I've seen. Every single level of this camera blows me away. I am thrilled with auto sensor cleaning.
