dovey says "Nothing special soup " about Campbell's V8 Golden Butternut Squash Soup

I love squash soup and was so excited to try this. We drink V8, the fruit kind and love it, so I thought the soup would be good, too . Campbells's V8 Golden Butternut Squash soup comes in a box, not a can. Really, it has all the makings of a great soup. A great company, a full serving of vegetables, no preservatives and butternut squash! In a box!

But sadly, for me anyway, this soup is just mediocre in taste. The texture is not smooth and creamy, but more like soft oatmeal. I could deal with that if the flavor was there. This Campbells V8 soup is so bland, I had to put a lot of salt in it. I never add salt to store bought soup! I expected so much more from Campbells V8. The description on the back of the box calls it mellow-sweet. Unless this is code for bland and tasteless, the box is wrong!

Campbells's V8 Butternut Squash soup may be healthy and offer up a full serving of vegetables, but there are much tastier ways to be healthy.
...

Butternut squash soup. I also love the other V8 soups. I have tried other brands and they are so bad compared to your soups. I'm usually not a soup eater, but I tried them with a coupon and I'm loving them. ...

mom2acat says "Flavorful and perfectly seasoned" about Campbell's V8 Golden Butternut Squash Soup

CAMPBELLS V-8 SOUP
GOLDEN BUTTERNUT SQUASH

I tried this for the first time today. It comes in a 18.3 oz. carton, and you can heat the soup on the stove or in the microwave. It has instructions on the package how to open the container, you cut one corner off to pour the product out. However, I had to cut all the way across the top so I could get a spoon in and get all the contents out.

I heated this on the stove in a small saucepan; it didn't take long to heat.
I love the flavor! It really has a fresh squash flavor and is perfectly seasoned. Besides butternut squash, the ingredients include potatoes, carrots, and seasonings. It has a thick, creamy texture. This is a great "comfort food" for a cold day, and healthy too!

Each carton has 2 servings, I cup each, and each serving is a full serving of vegetables, and contains 40% of the RDA for vitamin A.

Per one cup serving: 140 calories, 1 g fat, 750 mg sodium, 28 g carbs, 3 g fiber, 6 g sugar, 3 g protein....

GigiandAdonai says "V-8 needs to stick w/juices--this is not their 'bowl of soup'" about Campbell's V8 Golden Butternut Squash Soup

I wanted to try this because I love Butternut Squash and I also love the original V-8 Juice. My best friend bought me this flavor and the Broccoli & Cheese. I was at my office the day she brought them to me. I was going to work late so I decided I would go to the kitchen and microwave this soup; which by then I was really anticipating.

First things first, the cardboard-like container is difficult to open. The instructions say to lift flap and snip corners. Well, I'm in a kitchen, not at my desk. I don't have scissors to "snip" the flap so I grab the next best thing--a steak knife. Did I tell you it was a sharp knife and that I am accident prone? Can you see what's coming? Well, I'm trying to carve the flap open and the knife slips and cuts my thumb. I have to tend to that while I'm thinking, "I should have gone back to my desk for some scissors."

Next on my list for "trying new things". When it is a new food or beverage product I always smell it. Well, this smelled...
...

I love to eat soup especially in fall when the weather is colder, so I was really excited to try this new Campbell's V8 Golden Butternut Squash Soup. I am vegetarian, so I am always on the lookout for a vegetable based soup and this sounded like a winner. So I was really disappointed at the flavors with this soup. There isn't much of a squash taste, just potatoes and it is really thick and rich. It tastes pretty bland, so I added my own vegetables to it and it made it taste better. It is high in sodium too and not an easy accessible package. I was disappointed in the flavors, so hopefully the other varieties taste better....

I was looking so forward to trying this soup. First of all, I love Butternut Squash, and 2nd of all, V8 has a good reputation. I truly assumed this would be a healthy and flavorful soup. Wrong on both counts.

I've only tried the Butternut Squash flavor, so I don't know if any of the others are any better. Five flavors available are: Golden Butternut Squash, Garden Broccoli, Tomato Herb, Southwestern Corn and Sweet Red Pepper.

This Butternut Squash tastes like a very bland potato soup with baby-food sized pieces of potatoes in the puree. I ended up adding my own seasonings... and when that didn't do the trick... I added (believe-it-or-not) soy sauce. Nothing was able to salvage this soup. Besides, if I wanted potato soup, then that's what I would have purchased.

There is another brand (can't think of the name off-hand) of boxed butternut squash that is absolutely delicious. The Campbell's V8 was nowhere even close in texture or flavor.

It is a boxed soup which you have to cut open with scissors......
...
