I have been wanting a new sewing machine for many years. I stopped sewing around 1990 when my son was born and sewing no longer saved money. My old machine was 35 years old and just didn't look worth fixing up when I dragged it out of the closet this summer.

I researched sewing machines for several months, both online and in consumer research magazines. This machine perfectly fit my needs. I wanted a machine that I could sew, learn to embroider, and also learn to quilt, all with the same machine. I did not want or need the top of the line machines rated best by Consumer Reports, nor could I afford them!

I got this machine on sale online for nearly 70% off. My only challenge was realizing I had never set up a machine for use on my own. Fortunately my husband is a whiz at such things and I got my new machine up and running. It is smooth, has many options for me yet to learn, and the instructions are easy to follow.

I do need to clarify that I have only done basic sewing so far...

I purchased the Brother CS6000 in 2006 from Wal-Mart and so far all I have been able to accomplish is a few mending projects. The machine is made for people with tiny nimble fingers. The glare from the LED light hitting the chrome parts makes it near impossible to see what you are doing. The operating instruction book is not well organized and incomplete. Heavy duty sewing is out of the question. For light material sewing, no matter how you set the pressure, material wanders and stitches bind preventing forward movement of material. I have been sewing for years and this machine is very aggravating.

The Brother CSM 6000i is a great basic machine. It does all the tricks that a beginners machine should do. It is not a work horse, the presser feet are difficult to change. And, some special feet require a screw driver and removal of part of the presser bar. I cannot get the button foot to work without an error message. Oh, and lest you think I'm a new-bie, I've been sewing costumes, clothing, quilts, wall hangings, table runners and hand bags for the last 30 years.

My 30 year old Bernina finally died and after reading reviews I thought that the Brother CSM 6000i would be a great replacement for my bottom of the line very, very basic machine. But I was wrong.

It did not come with a free motion quilting/mending foot. After purchasing a Janome foot that fit, and dropped the feed dogs, I was ready to run. But the free motion stitch is not free, the foot thumps the fabric and even with the feed dogs down there is a jarring jerking pause and tug after each stitch. I am finding...

I never had such a sewing machine as my Brother cs6000i! At first I was afraid of computerized sewing machines but this one took care of those fears. I really like the speed control and the digital read out for each type of stitch and which foot to use. This is a great machine for beginners because it is hard to make mistakes that go unnoticed because the computer lets you know.The best part was it was very affordable. I love sewing but with age I am not as agile. this machine holds no barriers for me!

This Brother CS6000i is a good workhorse... I really enjoy working with it, especially because it is lightweight and can carry it from room to room.. I like the idea of the extra bobbin holder and the needle threader, for the older people that use a machine... the buttons on the machine are easy to understand and the directions are ok..the only negative I can think of is how to oil the machine, and to replace the lightbulb.. there isn't anyting in the manuel for that.. so what can I do to find out those answers??? the machine is easy to change the needles... I change them according to the fabric that I am sewing... the thicker the fabric the bigger the needle.. and I especially like the length of the stitch..that is most likely the best I have found in many machine...

This is a great sewing machine, & is very durable. The only feature that would make it out of this world was if the machine would thread itself. The LED light is wonderful, making it easy to use. I have had this machine for almost 2 years & it is great. I will NOT be upgrading this one...(unless I am getting an embordery machine!)...

This is a great machine for bringing to classes or to keep in an RV. At 10 pounds it packs many sophisticated features under the hood.

Easy to thread, easy to operate and access the many built-in stitches.

I think it is the nicest machine I have ever owned. It is lightweight and very easy to use. It comes with quite a few embroidery stitches and has an automatic threader. I would recommend this machine for a beginner because of the ease of use and it's versatility....

This machine was so easy to use. The directions were very easy to understand and for a computer user, very easy to set up. I was impressed with how easy it was to change bobbins and do button holes. I do a little sewing and am not a pro. However, I was able to use it within a few minutes of setup. I was so surprised with how easy it was. I am so glad that my husband bought it for me. I am looking forward to alot of new sewing projects. This machine can do just about anything. and I love that it is a Brothers model. Just a great sewing machine....

This is a great little machine! It's very light-weight, if you're looking for portability. It has so many stitch choices, there's sure to be one for whatever you're sewing. It's very easy to use. The needle moves smoothly through the stitches. And, there are a lot of extra feet. The only one not included that I would have liked is a walking foot. But overall, I am very happy with this machine, especially for the price....
